My brother-in-law lived at Garlands for 11 years. My sister-in-law also lived there until 2017. My brother-in-law wasn't always the easiest of residents to deal with, the carers were wonderful with him and he never wanted to move to another care home. My sister-in-law needed lots of help, my brother did end of life. Carers at Garlands couldn't have done more for both my relatives. The food at Garland's top marks. Lots of activities going on in the care home exercise class, baking, crafts, gardening, games, singers and entertainers visits, regular trips out shopping, and meal visits to places. Can recommend to anyone looking for a care home.
Our mum was a resident of Garlands Care Home from December 22 till she sadly passed away in February 24. She received amazing care from all the staff who treated her like a member of their own family. The food was always good and well-presented. Mum was a picky eater and was given foods she liked even if it was different to the menu choice. The room she had was modern and clean but cosy and welcoming. We were able to visit whenever and stay as long as we wanted. In the final days we also felt looked after whilst we spent precious time with her.
I have lived at Garlands since August 2021. The staff are amazing and I cannot thank them enough for the care they provide for me and my husband. The staff must have their own personal problems as people do but they never show it to us, the staff are cheerful and friendly and can take a joke. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff, they go out of their way to make our day. The only issue I have is they put too much custard on my puddings, but the deputy has said she will inform the kitchen staff for me.
My late father was a resident at Garlands from Dec 2022 to May 2023 and during this period he received a fantastic level of care from both the management and staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff are the real powerhouse behind Garlands and at all times they were friendly, professional and caring. My father particularly enjoyed his food and staff would go out of their way to ensure that he had his favourite meals. At all times the care was provided with a good sense of humour and really staff were more like extended family members rather than care staff. Cups of tea and coffee were never ending and this was important for him and we knew that he was happy there. The Garlands mantra is 'residents don't live in our workspace, we work in their home' and this totally sums up the care at Garlands. During his final weeks, the level of genuine care he received was simply outstanding and our gratitude and thanks for this is simply immense.
I cannot thank and praise the manager and her staff enough for looking after my mum for 20 months. My mum had dementia and she was so settled in her comfort zone and absolutely adored all the staff. The staff were amazing with my mum even learnt some Punjabi words to help Mum communicate properly. Thank you to the manager and everyone for helping my mum settle well and being amazing with her.
Myself and my family would like to leave a letter of recommendation for the amazing staff at Garlands Residential home. My Aunt had been a resident for over 2 years at this amazing home. They've treated my lovely Aunt like their own family, nothing too much to ask for, exceptionally great care given in a family orientated atmosphere. My Aunt sadly had a large stroke and she was unable to recover from it. The manager ensured when my Aunt came back home to die, that she died surrounded by her family, not just her actual family but her care home family. We, as a family, can never thank them all enough for supporting us through this and loving us all through it too. Oustanding heroes in our eyes and people we will forever call our friends. Thank you Garlands. I myself have worked in the care sector for many years, I know all about the CQC requirements and the regulations and this care home in my eyes is 10/10.
My mum moved to Garlands in January 2018. In summer 2016, she had experienced very sudden onset dementia, Parkinson’s and much reduced mobility, which had made her extremely anxious and distressed. Over the course of 18 months, she stayed in two other CQC - rated ‘good’ local care homes, but neither appeared able to meet her needs and each asked her to leave. What she needed was some personal attention to make her feel secure, as well as help to walk with a Zimmer frame (which she very much wanted to do but could not do independently). With enormous relief, we eventually found the person-centred care she needed at Garlands. From day one, she was calm and settled. I could barely believe the change in her. I can’t praise the staff highly enough: they are kind, caring and responsive to her needs. My mum feels included in the life of the home, always having someone to talk to and being encouraged to walk, with help. My family is very pleased with the kind and sensitive care she is receiving.
