View Full Details of The HawthornesMy sister has been a resident at Hawthornes Birkenshaw for 8 weeks now. During that time I have found her well cared for. Staff are very friendly, obliging and professional. She is enjoying having company and feels happy and content. Her room is lovely and she enjoys the meals so much she has put some of her weight back on. She keeps telling me how much she likes the Hawthornes. I am so happy for her and glad she feels so settled.
I found my stay at The Hawthornes in February 2025 excellent. The staff were on hand whenever I needed them, they treated me with care and consideration. I could not have asked for more.
My aunt has been a resident since July 2023 and has been well cared for throughout this time. She enjoys the food which she says is excellent - her only complaint is that there is too much and the cups of tea aren't very nice! On the occasions when medical assistance has been required, each incident has been dealt with professionally and with compassion and I have been kept informed at all times. The atmosphere is very welcoming and there is always someone available to answer any questions I may have regarding her ongoing care. Overall, I have great confidence in the manager and her team at The Hawthornes.
Having been at The Hawthorns for 12 months we are confident our mum is well looked after and cared for. She is encouraged to socialise by going to the dining room for meals and taking part in the many fun activities on offer. We will always be grateful to the manager for making all the necessary arrangements for Mum to move in at short notice and is always available to reassure us when we have any concerns. The Hawthorns has a friendly, family atmosphere where everyone works very hard and nothing is too much trouble.
Since my mother-in-law has been in the home she has become more settled and is very happy, I can't thank the staff enough for what they have done for her and are always there if we need to talk even when short-staffed.
My Mum has been a permanent resident since July 2024. She loves all the staff and they love her, she enjoys her food but said it could be better. Her room is ok but small, she has her own reclining chair from her home, a walker, commode, Zimmer and a food trolly. So very little room, we have put her belongings into her room, but feel it could be more homely. Also feels the activities could be more interesting.
Office manager, getting involved in family disputes. Food is terrible. My dad's room has an old bed and mattress. The room looks like something out of the 1950's. Staff are okay but not the manager. My dad has ants in his room.
Since my mother-in-law has been a resident at Hawthorne's care home she is a much happier person more confident and very settled. The carers have really got to know her and show her so much love and support. It really does feel like home from home. She always looks very clean and tidy and little things like getting her nails painted go a long way. She always loved drawing and painting when she lived at home and the staff have brought this out in her again something she hadn't been able to do for a long time - by spending time with her she has enjoyed this hobby again.
My father has been a resident since January 2024, I have to say what a lovely care home it is, it's clean, tidy, nothing is too much trouble for any of the carers, the receptionist is always joyful and extremely helpful, the manager is an asset to your company, she is just amazing, dad has settled so much and we have no concerns at all... Keep doing what you do, it's working amazingly for Dad and us as a family. Thank you.
My overall experience of my dad's care home has been a very friendly, helpful care home from management to cleaning staff to cooking and nursing staff. Dad's settled in nicely and he's happy I'm happy. I always feel welcome in the home and it's a credit to The Hawthornes.
I attended The Hawthornes for a look around in view of my mother moving there for long-term care. I received a very warm welcome from the member of staff showing me around. She was very friendly and professional and knowledgeable about the home. The residents all looked content and happy. The home was clean and modern with nice outside space. The room I was shown was very bright and airy. All in all a great experience and I felt my mother would settle here.
Since taking the decision for my mum to go into The Hawthornes we have seen an improvement in Mum's health and well-being. She is happy at the home and the staff are friendly and willing to answer questions we may have about Mum when we visit. Mum's room is always clean and also Mum is cared for and this shows in her much-improved appearance.
My mum went into The Hawthornes for respite care after being in hospital for three weeks. She was made to feel welcome and looked after from the second she arrived. The staff were kind and respectful to her and encouraged her to get involved with other residents and entertainment. She felt safe and secure when we left after visiting and we were safe in the knowledge that she was happy and content. Lovely place, lovely staff and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Wonderful.
I was only in for one week for respite care. I found all the staff to be really caring. The food was really good and presented well. My room was lovely and comfortable. I felt really safe and well cared for. Overall the home was very comfortable and felt quite homely.
We were looking for a home for Dad as he needed more care than we could provide. He has multiple needs, but still has a sense of humour, so needed somewhere with the ability to keep this going. We had some bad experiences initially with other homes, but as soon as we walked into the Hawthornes we felt at ease. The staff were readily available and the home has a central hub so whichever side you are on, you can get someone's attention. You are greeted with smiling staff 'most of the time' and nothing is too much bother, even when they are really busy they get back to you. Dad is settled, clean and well-dressed daily. He is comfortable and warm and he is listened to. He doesn't like to leave his room much so the staff work around this. We are very grateful that the manager looked at Dad's application again after being refused the first time. They took him on his own merit rather than just the word of an institution.
My mum has been a resident at the Home for 2.5 years. Sadly, she passed away on 23rd February 2024 after a long battle with dementia. The staff at The Hawthornes have been fantastic with her, even though her behaviour could be challenging due to her dementia. There is a family feel to the home and the staff look after their residents as though they are family. There is a palpable connection between the caters and the residents. They gave my mum a dignified end in the most difficult of circumstances and wrapped her in a blanket of love and affection. Nothing was too much trouble. They also supported me in my mum’s final days, for which I will be eternally grateful. Fantastic care home, with fantastic managers and fantastic staff! They treated my mum like a person, a human being, a friend. Thank you The Hawthornes.
I cannot praise the staff at The Hawthorns enough for the care my mum is receiving. She is happy and settled and the care she receives is outstanding. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble when you ask. The Manager has been great with advice and offering a shoulder to cry on at times, as placing a relative in care is not an easy decision under any circumstances. I would highly recommend The Hawthorns.
My mother-in-law had a terrible fall at home in Gomersal I stayed for a few nights and the family went during the day. I worked and my family also were struggling. I called the Care Home Manager who came straight away and arranged for my mother-in-law to come to Hawthorns. We are so pleased The Care Manager was able to help. My mother-in-law has been in Hawthorns for 2 weeks now and the service is excellent and all the staff are so helpful and caring. The care is 100 per cent. nothing is too much trouble for her care. I would highly recommend Hawthorns. We are so grateful for my mother-in-law's care,
My grandma returned to The Hawthorns as a permanent resident a couple of months ago after previously staying there for emergency respite. Her previous experience made the move a lot easier as understandably leaving the home you have lived in all your adult life is traumatic. Since returning, the staff have gone out of their way to help her settle in and have treated her with compassion and kindness. They have come to know her likes and dislikes and actively promote her independence as much as her abilities allow. Recently, she experienced a dip in her mental health and the staff sought the relevant support straight away, liaising with other agencies to ensure she received the right treatment and not allowing her to be 'written off' purely because she is 100 years old. As a family, we can't thank the staff enough for the quality of care they provide!
Mum is in for respite at the moment, it was our first choice of care home as my dad had spent some time there during covid. The home is spotlessly clean and Mum's room is nice clean and tidy. The staff are very kind and caring and I felt happy when I visited to leave my mum in their care. In the two weeks she has been there she has made progress which is good to see. She is also eating well!
