View Full Details of The Holt Retirement HomeMy dad has been at the Holt for more than 3 years now and we can honestly say that when we chose The Holt we chose right the first time. The standard of care he receives is absolutely amazing. Nothing is too much for the staff and management team and quite regularly they go above and beyond what is required. We are always made welcome when visiting and updated regularly on Dad's health and any other issues that may arise from time to time. The residents are treated and entertained regularly with singers and harpists etc and the lifestyle and activities co-ordinator is always coming up with new crafting ideas for the residents to participate in. The in-house chef provides the most amazing meals and cakes. We would definitely recommend The Holt to any prospective family member who is looking for a forever home for a loved one when they can no longer provide the care that they need.
My Mum has resided at the Holt for a number of years now. As a family, we are very happy with the care she has received there. Whenever we visit we always made to feel very welcome and offered refreshments which often include homemade cake or biscuits. If and when we do have any concerns about Mum's health or well-being they are dealt with quickly and efficiently by the manager and her excellent team of caregivers. We are always informed of weekly activities which are well planned and appropriate. Residents are regularly entertained by musicians and singers and often take part in a singalong. The Holt has a warm and welcoming atmosphere with rooms that are kept bright and clean. I would highly recommend the Holt to anyone looking for a high standard of care along with a home-from-home atmosphere with staff and management who take time to get to know the residents as individuals.
In my opinion The Holt is amazing. The care staff are brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble. My friend is bed-bound but is always clean and tidy. He is always treated with respect and dignity. He is a member of their extended family, as are all residents. I am always treated cheerfully when visiting and a cuppa usually arrives within 5 or 10 minutes. Very welcoming. I am kept up to date with his medical condition. Wonderful.
Time is precious at the moment, so to cut matters short this time: They do what it says on the tin! They care! My thanks go to all involved with the care of residents who may not always be as appreciative of their care but whose families certainly are.
My mother has been a resident at the home for a number of years. She has always been made to feel welcome and part of the family. The care staff and managers have always kept us up to date with developments in my Mother's condition, ongoing treatments and overall wellbeing. I would recommend The Holt for anyone looking for a Care Home for one of their family members.
Excellent staff, caring and understanding. Management keep us up to date and are approachable at all times. If mum is unwell they note and sort it out and get the appropriate help for her. They ring and let us know if there are any changes in her health. Super efficient!
My father (92) has been at The Holt for a month and I have the highest praise for the care he has received. The personal involvement of the staff is exceptional and it is obvious that they all know and respond to the residents on an individual level. The 'family' feel is apparent as soon as you enter. I have been made to feel welcome whenever I have visited and when I have been unable to visit, it has never been too much trouble for someone to talk on the phone to keep in touch. My father had two separate overnight hospital stays in the last fortnight and from first to last the staff at The Holt were fast acting, professional and caring. When he returned each time he was welcomed back 'home'. The communal areas are light and airy and in close proximity of each other. The food is freshly cooked and tasty - I have joined my father for a few lunches and enjoyed everything. The interaction with the activities coordinator is a real bonus too. In every way The Holt ticks all the boxes I could want for my father.
The Holt is very homely and more like being at home and not a hotel. The staff are all wonderful and can't do enough for you. Booked Mum in once a week for some pampering.
My father-in-law lived at The Holt for the last 4 months of his life and during his time there he was treated with dignity and respect. The care at the end of his life was exemplary. The staff were so kind and compassionate, not only to my father-in-law but also to my husband and I. They looked after us at a difficult time. The management were excellent at keeping us informed and always happy to accommodate our wishes. I cannot praise the carers highly enough; their understanding of caring for people with Alzheimer's/Dementia is outstanding. The residents who were able, appeared well entertained with a great variety of activities and the house and garden were very well suited to their needs. The food looked lovely, wholesome and well presented. All in all, whilst no-one wants to place their loved one in a care home, The Holt has been the very best answer for our family and we highly recommend it.
My mother went to The Holt Retirement Home in January 2018 after some very difficult years. I was told she may get back to her old self which was hard to believe but to a good extent, she has although obviously, she will never be the same. I do know none of this would have taken place at home, without the care and compassion of each and every one at The Holt. As a visitor, I have always been made welcome and any questions have been answered. It gives me some peace to know my mother is in their hands.
My father was admitted into the home just over two years ago. I was immediately told to treat the home as 'his home'. This has always been how he has been treated. All the staff have treated him with respect and allowed his personality to remain as much as possible through his dementia. The fact that the owner visits the home regularly and knows my Dad personally is a great comfort. Likewise, the manager knows all the residents well, their personalities and needs. I have visited unannounced and always found the residents treated with the utmost care and respect.
I had a very informative visit. The staff make a real effort to let you know how the resident is in their general health. Their care is unending.
The home is very clean and staff are always very friendly. Management is always about and you can discuss things in private.
My mum went into The Holt in Hutton Buscel 3 weeks ago and what a difference it has made to her life, and ours (her family). From the moment she walked in to be welcomed by all the staff, she has been so happy and settled. She is so well looked after by everyone, nothing is too much trouble. Everyone is so helpful. The atmosphere is a happy one and you feel that as soon as you walk in. After all the upset of Mum having to go into a home, the relief for all of us is unimaginable. We now look forward to visiting Mum as it's wonderful to see her so content. Thank you to you all. We are so lucky to have Mum with you.
The care home and staff are great.
This is my aunt's fourth care home in the past seven years as her condition deteriorated. The Holt is excellent in meeting her needs and the staff are truly dedicated to her care and welfare. As her power of attorney, I am kept fully informed of developments and work closely with them on all aspects of her mental and physical well-being. The activities on offer are good - varied and stimulating - there is a good team atmosphere and a strong feeling of family and being 'at home' rather than 'in a home'. I would recommend The Holt to all who have this level of need where many of the residents (but not all) have advanced dementia.
The Holt Retirement Home is a very caring and friendly home. The manager is lovely, if you have any problems she will soon sort them out for you. It's nice to see the residents be able to sit out in the garden in the sun. The staff are also very friendly too. Would certainly recommend it.
Over the last two years, the improvement in this care home is outstanding. It is run very professionally. I could not wish for better care for my mother, and that is not something I say lightly as I can be very critical. I am often there at lunch time and the food served looks fresh and presented well. Mum is always treated with dignity. The staff seem very caring and professional. They run activities and seasonal get together's which are always pleasant to attend. I would highly recommend this care home to others.

As the care of my sister is in her son's hands I cannot answer the question of value for money. The Holt Retirement Home is approx 60 miles plus from our home so our visits are not as often as I would like and visits are monthly rather than weekly. However, my husband and I find this home to be very clean and comfortable. The staff are very caring and patient with the residents and also make visitors very welcome with a cup of tea etc. The rooms are large and airy with lots of daylight owing to the large windows and a readily accessible door onto a walled garden for the residents on suitable days, giving a lovely feeling of freedom. What we have seen of the meals have looked nourishing and tasty.
