View Full Details of Kendal HouseThough I have not visited the entire home, I am very impressed with what I have seen so far. The communal part of this repurposed Victorian(?) terrace is arranged to be an open plane but with separate areas for dining, TV, and talking with visitors, so it feels like home. The staff are excellent; always plenty of them around interacting with residents. They are a splendid team; cheerful, friendly, and alert to their changes in needs and moods. I am particularly pleased with the way they have dealt with my sister-in-law's health problems: in less than six months they have arranged and escorted her to clinics and hospital visits which have sorted out a long-term and serious womb prolapse (which her GP had failed to deal with/improve for years) as well as her leg and back pain. She is warm, content, well-fed, cared for, and safe. They are monitoring 'confusion' and dealing with it considerately.
Always greeted with a friendly member of staff at the door. Aunties care I can't fault. The home feels like it is very much home from home and is kept to a high standard. Carers keep me updated how my auntie has been and if she requires anything.
My mother is 98 years old and has been a resident at Kendal House for 2 years. The warmth and the attention of the staff provide a loving environment. Interaction with other residents is encouraged and activities inside and outside make for a healthy and stimulating experience. My mother particularly enjoys the pampering, especially bubble baths and hairdos. If she has the good fortune to reach 100 years in June 2026 it will be largely due to the support of Kendal House's team. The nurturing environment and our family are always welcome for family visits.
Mum came into Kendal House for 2 weeks respite care, she suffers from Parkinson's Disease with Parkinson's Dementia and this was our first experience of a care home for her. I wanted to leave a review as it is so difficult to decide where a loved one will be looked after best and after our experience in a different care home subsequently, I really feel the need to express how wonderful the staff at Kendal House were with Mum. She always looked clean and well dressed, the staff were personable and friendly and when we came to visit Mam, I was happy to see and hear that she was being so well looked after and cared for. Her hair looked better than it had in ages and the staff painted her nails and kept her looking nice. She talked about the jacuzzi bath and singing songs, she looked the best I had seen her for a long time. I would definitely recommend Kendal House, the staff go above and beyond.
We were very hesitant in making the step with my mum moving into residential care after having her independence for so long. We did the usual checks through CQC and had discussions with her social worker. After visiting Kendal House, meeting staff and having a discussion with the manager we decided we would start my mother with initial respite stays. All my concerns and worries were abieted by the caring and excellent standard of care my mother received. She is now at Kendal House as a full-time resident and she absolutely loves it - which she keeps telling us all every time we visit her! My mum loves the food and attention that she gets. She particularly enjoys her baths as this was something she wasn't able to do when she was at her own home. I cannot praise the staff at Kendal House enough - as this was such a big transition for my mother and both my family have absolutely no regrets for moving her there and we probably should have done it earlier.
Since my sister went to Kendall House, her general health has greatly improved. The staff are very caring and attentive and we are kept informed of everything as soon as it happens. She is very settled and happy and calls it her home and loves the staff members.
My lady, who suffered from Alzheimer’s and was unable to communicate, was, after much deliberation, placed in the care of Kendal House in September 2019. Having just recently passed away I feel that I just cannot walk away without making comment of just how grateful and indebted I am to all the staff at Kendal House. The family atmosphere and comradeship displayed by everyone is above outstanding and the personal attention given surpasses excellence. I would further like to applaud the understanding and communication that exists both between the staff and the NHS. There was never an occasion that the staff failed to see the need to call or ask for assistance which always arrived in less than 20 minutes. All this was given despite the rigors presented by COVID-19. There were even occasions when staff saw fit to present themselves for duty earlier than the official commencement of their working day. How’s that for commitment? If any care home deserves special mention it's Kendal House.
My friend has been a resident of Kendal House since suffering an illness nearly 4 years ago, which meant she could no longer live independently in her own home. She is very well looked after and is always sharing a smile and a laugh with the staff. Who are excellent and exceptionally caring, and in fact, have become like a new family to her. I have visited people in many of the Care Homes in this area, and whilst Kendal House is not a luxurious modern building it is comfortable, very clean, extremely well-run, warm and welcoming.
My friend has been living in Kendal House for over four years. She has always been looked after very well and especially during this past year when everything has been so difficult for all of us. Kendal House feels like a real home and everyone there like a big family. The staff are very helpful and friendly and can't do enough for her. It is so good to know that she is cared for so well and is happy. I would recommend Kendal House very highly for their excellent accommodation, cleanliness, food, and all other aspects of care they provide. Thank you for looking after my friend so well.
My sister and I did significant research before placing our mother here and we were very happy with the care Mam received in the last 8 weeks of her life. The staff were fabulous and Mam took part in regular activities and made friends. She celebrated her 89th birthday at Kendal House and was made to feel special with a birthday tea. Unfortunately, her mental and physical health were already on a downward decline when she joined the home, and we feel that her care was of a high standard and she was treated with empathy and respect despite that her behaviour was undoubtedly challenging at times. The staff were very personable and happy to speak to us at any time and were extremely prompt in letting us know if the doctor or district nurses had been called out to see Mam. In summary, we would recommend this care home.
My mother was a resident at Kendal House, Whitley Bay from August 2017 until she passed away in May 2020. It is a relatively small care home, which resulted in my mother feeling safe and secure in a familiar and welcoming environment. The care and personal attention provided throughout was exemplary and this allowed my mother to spend the last few years of her life in comfort and dignity. The management and staff kept us informed at all times and we came to regard them as personal friends. Visiting was always a pleasure and no request, either from my mother or from ourselves, was ever too much trouble. Although my mother seldom participated, there were frequent and stimulating activities for the residents. The standard of accommodation, cleanliness and food and drink were as you would expect from a care home that clearly takes pride in the service that it provides to the residents and their families. Based upon our experience, we cannot recommend Kendal House highly enough.
When Dad told me he would like to go into a home in Whitley Bay, I assessed 23 homes to find the best for him. Kendal House came in first place. When I contacted the home, the Manager invited me along for a chat and a tour of the premises. Dad was invited separately to spend the day with the residents and staff to find out his opinion. He moved in later the same week and loved every minute over the three and a half years he spent there. From the start, it felt like home, with all the staff encouraging Dad in everyday activities, showing so much good humour you could not fail to join in. Dad was thoroughly spoilt and thrived on all the attention which for me was great to see. Overall Dad was treated with dignity, respect, kindness, humour and very well cared for. Mealtimes were treat times and he thoroughly enjoyed his food. Just to look at him you could see how happy he was. I would definitely recommend Kendal House and their staff to anyone in need of care.
My friend has been well cared for and all his health care and social needs met since he has lived at Kendal House. The staff are all very pleasant and welcoming and will try their hardest to accommodate my friend's needs and wishes. I am also made welcome every time I visit. My friend is very happy there.
I was able to get my sister into Kendal House and I can only say that she is a completely different person, she is much happier than she was living by herself. All the staff treat all of the residents with so much care and attention. I would highly recommend this care home.
Due to the fact there are only about 23 residents, the ratio of staff to residents is very good. As such the residents get a lot of personal attention which is most definitely a huge advantage over other care homes we looked at. All the staff are excellent and I would definitely recommend this property.
My aunt moved in 8 weeks ago, she was a very vulnerable anxious lady. The staff have made her feel very welcome looking after her on a one to one basis. Her health and wellbeing have increased since being there as the staff all take time to speak to her individually and has made her feel very welcome, therefore she has settled in very quickly. I can't thank the staff enough for their help and support at a difficult time. We looked at many care homes and not one was a patch on this care home. I would recommend this care home to anybody that asks.
First-class home. The staff are always friendly and very helpful. The residents are always happy and very clean and smart. Like going from home to home. Best nursing home I ever been in.
When we decided to put my granda in a care home it was a huge decision for the family and we couldn’t have chosen better than Kendal House. So much so we have put my nana in Kendal for respite. From walking in the door you are made so welcome by all staff, management and the owners. All food is homemade and delicious and we are even asked if we want to stay for tea or refreshments whilst there. Recently I have been in for the entertainment and it was fantastic with all staff (including me) joining in. I can’t thank all the staff at Kendal house enough for looking after my granda to such a high standard and I have and will continue to recommend this care home!
After a long stay in hospital, we had the difficult task of finding a suitable care home for our mother. Kendal House was recommended to me from several different sources. On my first visit what stood out most was how friendly and welcoming the staff are and how caring they are towards the residents and families. It is a small home with a warm, calm and friendly atmosphere (not clinical and no smell). I could tell that my mother would be well looked after and feel at home there. Sure enough, since she moved there in December nothing has been too much trouble for the staff. She has settled well, is always nicely dressed, the food is good, she has made friends and there are activities going on throughout the week. She has a nice room with her personal things in there. Visitors are always made welcome including long-distance family who are able to speak to her regularly on the phone. We wanted the best for our mother and are confident we have chosen the right place for her.
I can't praise the staff and management of Kendal House enough. We had a recent scare with Dad's health and the staff were fantastic. They attended to him immediately, telephoned an ambulance and while we were waiting they insisted we had lunch as we could have a long wait at the hospital. Thank goodness we did it was 8 hours!. Kendal House is immaculately clean but not clinical. The home is warm, welcoming as are staff and owners. Food is homemade and delicious and there are always refreshments offered to visitors. Activities for the residents are plentiful and entertainers are there for special occasions, it's lovely to see other residents joining in. So impressed are we with the home that when mum recently had a hospital admission she went there for respite. It is a big decision for any family to choose a care home they feel will be suitable. As soon as we walked into Kendal House we knew this was it. Dad is very happy and contented! What more could we ask for?
