Washington Manor, avoid! I'm disgusted. I've complained to the care home, Adult Social Services, and Care Quality Commission. Concerns included poor infection control procedures. I saw a staff member pour water into the same beaker used to give medicine to everyone in my dad's corridor. My wife saw this the week before, but I said no home would put residents' health at risk. I was wrong. They admit this is not in line with IPC standards. No records exist for applying dad's cream after 1st May. I raised concerns about personal hygiene. Records show dad was showered 3 times in February, two times in March, and none in April! His clothes were frequently dirty and unchanged for days including socks and underwear. I was disgusted they claimed my complaint was motivated by money when I was told my dad would have to pay for another four weeks as I removed him with 1 days' notice. This makes no sense as I was offered a fee free month if I kept him there. He now looks cleaner, healthier, and stimulated in his new care home.
Yet again I have visited my father to find him in a state of neglect. He was dirty, his nails are filthy and far too long, he did not have his false teeth in but he was expected to manage to eat his lunch. His lunch was not cut up, no specialist cutlery was provided and no one was helping him to eat. A young lady went and got his dentures from his room. He cannot manage to feed himself if the food is not cut up, the tray table is set at over 8 inches higher than he can reach when in his chair. He can only use one hand and he stops eating, not because he is no longer hungry but because he is fed up trying to get the food on his fork and into his mouth. We provided specialist cutlery for him to use but that has disappeared. This is not care it is neglect. No one should be left in this state, he is skin and bones and that is because he is malnourished. He says he wants a haircut and his beard and moustache cut but he does not have the capability to go and put his name on the list.

As a family putting Dad in to a home was a really difficult decision, but seeing how he settled from the moment he stepped inside the door was mind-blowing. Management and staff really made him feel welcome and put him at ease, talking him through the progress. I myself have worked in care for 19 years and can honestly say this is one of the nicest homes I have come across. I would highly recommend Washington Manor.

When it comes to the stage when one of your parents are struggling and needs care it is a worrying time. My dad arrived at Washington Manor after trying everything we could to let him live at home with Mam, but after losing his hip bone and not being able to get around the choice was made for us. We wanted somewhere close to Washington and his family as possible and when we were told that it would be Washington Manor that was a plus. The place is wonderful with very high standards, the staff are fantastic and always chatting and making sure Dad is fine. He always says how lovely the food is and is really happy every time we go to visit. It was their diamond wedding and the staff set up an afternoon tea for him and my mam which was a fabulous touch. I live in Spain and it makes my life a lot easier knowing he is well looked after. Thanks to all the staff who work there. Top team
Visited my husband’s mother at the home recently. We are 4 hours away by car so it was really important to us to like the home and the staff during this first visit. The care home staff are so friendly and welcoming and gave us an update on our family member. They seem to offer so much interaction for the residents which is vital when dealing with early-onset dementia. We are really appreciative of their regular social media posts and videos. Thank you!
I have previously had poor experiences with care homes and was very apprehensive about my father being admitted to one. He started off as a temporary resident and has been accepted for a full-term placement. I am more than happy with the care and attention he receives more importantly he shows no sign of distress when I visit. The food is of a high standard and the staff are always helpful and will answer any questions promptly and honestly. I visit at varying times and the standards are consistently high. It is never any trouble to make him a drink when requested and always comes with a smile and more importantly to him a biscuit! Activities are geared to the time of year which helps with orientation. It is very reassuring that he is looked after to a consistently high standard and can have things from home for his room. I have no problems recommending the home to anyone who like me was initially apprehensive.
My sister arrived at Washington Manor withdrawn, paranoid, hallucinating and very depressed. With the encouragement of all the staff, she is now socializing with other residents and joining in the afternoon activities. She is well thought of and well cared for. The staff here are amazing.
