View Full Details of St George's Residential HomeMy mother came into St George's Residential Home for 2 weeks respite care but both my mother, myself and brothers were that impressed she decided she'd like to make the move permanent. Thank you for all the help and care given to her. She loves her hairdressing days.
Every member of staff are caring, compassionate and empathetic. They all made me feel welcome and communicate with me all the time. They have been an absolute godsend and the care they have shown both of us is excellent. I will always be eternally grateful to every single one of them including cleaners and volunteers also. They all have a natural gift with all the residents especially the confused with dementia. Even though it's a challenging job, thus always have a smile on their face. I feel at ease knowing everyone at St George's Care Home. All staff. Thank you for everything you have done for me any mu mum. Will always be eternally grateful and really appreciate it. Every member of staff has been caring, compassionate and engaging with all of us. None of you lose your patience. Such a challenging job and you are all cheerful even if you are having a tough day. I have seen how you all engage with residents and make them feel at home. Most of residents are very confused and the skills you all use are a gift, you either have it or you don't and all staff I have seen have. Everyone of you has been so patient, gentle and empathetic and encouraged my mum. Always feel welcome when I visit and see for my self that she is well cared for which puts me at ease. Also, thank you for doing things like bringing animals in, doing arts and crafts, people who play music and people who bring school children in. Thank you to the volunteers who spend time with my mum and other volunteers who play games and interact with Mum. I also want to thank you to the cleaners for keeping the home clean and for serving the lunches. You all work well as a team and should know you are all valued. Thank you to all of you for communicating with each other and other professionals and especially my mum and me. Thank you to the manager for tunning such a fantastic home for residents you should be proud of your team. Thank you for everything. I wish you all the best and wishing everyone of you good health now and in the coming year. Please take care everyone and thanks so much for letting me have a break and the support I was shown when I was so unwell.
Everyone at St George's Residential Home has been very kind to my Mum and has gone out of their way to care for her. She likes to take part in the activities that are organised (and enjoys herself at the D-Day celebrations). I am kept fully informed about how my Mum is doing.
My family member came to St George's following a hospital stay & us being advised that they could no longer live independently. I fully admit that I had reservations as they have always been adamant that they would not go into a care home saying they were prisons and they would not be made to go! From the first day at St George's, he was "home" and to my amazement, he has settled wonderfully. It really is home from home. I live quite a distance away & can no longer visit as often as I did but I phone all the time and the staff are so helpful and willing. It was the best decision (that the hospital) made for us. He is looked after and cared for and they keep in very regular contact with me so I always know how he is & what's happening. How could I ever begin to thank everyone at St George's for making the time he has left stress-free and comfortable? They're all truly wonderful!
On first arrival, we were greeted by one of the members of staff. After initial introductions, my sister & I were invited into the Manager's office while Mum was invited to go down and have a cup of tea. While in the office we were given a full explanation of how the home was run. This included all the safety aspects that the home ran. We were encouraged to ask questions or raise any matters that we were unsure of. Following this meeting, my sister & I were given a full tour of the home and its grounds. This was very good (as my sister & I left we both commented 1) how clean the home was 2) the friendliness of the staff 3) we had made the right choice. We finalised any remaining paperwork and prepared to leave after a final chat with Mum. She seemed quite content, the staff reassured us they would keep a close eye on her, with it being her first night. As we left the home I said it's very good, I will be booking myself in next - we had a laugh.
Mum has been a resident of St George's for three and a half years and in that time her general health and well-being have improved dramatically. The level of care and attention the residents receive is excellent and the activities that are organised are engaging and fun. Recently Mum went on a trip to Ravenglass with a trip on Lal Ratty which she enjoyed thoroughly and we were visiting recently when a folk group were playing which again really cheered Mum up. We are regularly contacted to ensure that we have no concerns about Mum's care and are always contacted immediately should there be an issue with Mum's health in any way. Mum always tells us how good the food is and how well cared for she is when we are visiting. Mum feels safe both physically and psychologically which is a great comfort to us.
I have only ever seen the staff behaving in a kind and respectful manner. My mother tells me they are all kind to her. At a meeting for the residents and relatives, we were encouraged to ask questions and received satisfactory answers. Suggestions are also welcome. Where activities are concerned, a good effort is made to try to remember the abilities of each resident and include each one, sometimes on an individual basis such as a simple trip to the sea and an ice cream. All the staff are approachable and I am kept informed of my mum's health. The star rating for food and safety is because I am only there during visiting hours so I cannot comment on outside of those hours.
My mum moved into St George’s in December 2023 aged 91. Such a big change can be very unsettling for many people but the staff did everything they could to help Mum settle into her new surroundings. She was allocated a nice room with dual-aspect windows and her own toilet. There are two nice lounges for her to watch TV or she can do so in her own room. Staff are attentive to her needs and keep in regular contact with me if required and when they undertake reviews of her care plan. There are regular activities for residents to take part in. Mum feels very safe and contented in St George’s which of course is a great comfort to us her family.
My mother came for 2 weeks of respite everyone was very caring and looked after her well. The food must have been good as she gained a little weight which was needed. Mother enjoyed it so much I think she will be back in the near future.
My overall impression is that of a caring and supportive environment for my relative. I'm always made aware of any health issues and they are treated accordingly. The overall standard of the home is one of being 1st class in cleanliness and safety for the service users. I would be very happy to recommend St George's for anyone looking for a care home for a loved one.
Cannot ask for better. Mum is looked after very well and is always happy and content. The staff are fantastic and always have time to speak with me about Mum. Always activities taking place which keep her occupied and she finds them enjoyable.
I cannot fault the care my mother has been given. The home is always clean tidy and welcoming. However, I do complain about information and how it is shared. Many items are emailed which is good but activities and menus could also be sent to families rather than being placed on the notice board. I know most things are planned well in advance. Why can’t a monthly menu and activity plan be sent out too? It doesn’t make sense to me why this isn’t happening. I have complained about this before and haven’t yet had any response in 5 years!
My wife does not want to be in the care home; she wanted to be at home. I want her home; she feels like a prisoner, unable to get to Church or do her pastimes or hobbies. Her only protest she feels she can make is to receive medications, meals and fluids.
Cannot thank St George's enough for looking after Mam. She was very settled and happy there and loved all the staff. And I, as a visitor, was kept very well informed about Mam's care and felt reassured and welcomed.
The staff are all friendly and helpful and my husband is very comfortable.
The staff and management have done extremely well taking care of my sister, especially in these difficult times. Many thanks to you all.
Before Covid my assessments here fully express my true opinion of this very well-run home. In the difficult Covid period it has been difficult for everyone involved, but the home has maintained its high standards, especially with regard to communication issues. We were kept well informed of my relative's conditions of health or otherwise in a lucid and caring manner. The management have been helpful with any bureaucracy.
My father has become a permanent resident since November 2019. The staff at St George's are incredibly helpful and really take great care of him. The home is fantastic and the facilities and bedroom are great. There are a variety of activities on offer to keep him busy. The care received by my father really is second to none. They treat him with the dignity he deserves.
Cannot fault the care given to my mother-in-law during her stay at St George's, she is very happy and content. She decided she did not want to leave during her first week.
My mother has spent almost four weeks at St George's having respite care. From the first contact with St George's, I could tell that this was a very welcoming and professional organisation. My mother was concerned about having respite care but from the first moment we arrived she was made to feel very welcome and there was a warm, friendly, caring atmosphere throughout her stay. Mum soon settled and every member of staff was helpful giving her excellent attention, along with tasty food from beginning to end. She had a very comfortable room with a television and wash hand basin next to the bathroom. I would have no hesitation in recommending St George's for the care my mother received and also the support which was given to the family by the St George's team.
