View Full Details of Kirklands Care HomeI went into Kirklands Care Home for 4 weeks of respite care. The care I received was first-class and everyone was so caring and considerate. My room was lovely and clean with beautiful views over Cockermouth. Thank you to the manager and her fantastic team for a lovely stay.
The Kirklands management and staff are exceptional, without exception they are organised and efficient, but at the same time are sympathetic and friendly. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone seeking a caring environment for their relative.
My mum has been staying at Kirklands for six months now. I have found the staff extremely caring and helpful. My mum still experiences moments of being unsettled and the staff take time to sit with her and calm her. They always have time to say hello and treat Mum with the utmost respect. They ensure Mum feels comfortable and keeps her dignity. As a family, Kirklands have been extremely welcoming to us and have given plenty of time and assistance to help us adapt to Mum's new surroundings. I cannot say enough good things about the level of care Mum receives at Kirklands.
This is an honest review aimed as guidance with the very difficult decision of choosing a care home and includes the things that I wish I had been forewarned about. What they do well: washing, dressing, medication, meals, daily activities, cleaning, reporting of incidents. What they don't do well: security of personal items and clothing, laundry turnaround, close supervision of residents, management communication and feedback. If your relative requires day and night close supervision, assistance with orientation and mobility or has any dementia-associated behavioural problems then this is not the home for you. They simply do not have a sufficient number of experienced staff to cope and, in my opinion, your loved one would be better placed in a home with nurse support.
So far I have found the home to be caring, clean and comfortable for Mum. She loves joining in the activities. The staff appear helpful and friendly to both Mum and visitors alike. This was probably the biggest decision I have had to make and it was eased due to all those concerned in the home that made it much easier for Mum! Love using families so that all the family feel they are still connected to Mum.
Mum has special needs which she is getting from Kirklands staff. It is difficult finding the right care spot to look after your loved one when she has to have the level of attention that you can no longer give personally, but I have no hesitation in recommending that Kirklands does just that. Mum has her own private en suite room which is cleaned regularly. Meals are varied and try to cater for individual diets. One day after a visit I passed the tea trolley and was tempted to take samples as it looked so nice. Kirklands has its own activities officer who arranges a variety of interests for the residents. Kirklands is also staffed by a team of friendly and cheerful professionals who attentively and considerately earn their job title of carers There is also a separate digital provision to help you to keep in touch on a daily basis with the ones you cherish if you cannot visit regularly. I feel assured that Mum is in safe caring hands and thank Kirklands staff for their dedication.
My mother has been in Kirklands for almost 2 years. She has been well cared for and is quite settled there. She often remarks that the staff are very nice and caring. I have also found the staff very pleasant and respectful towards me whenever I visit.
My father has been in Kirklands since November 2021. We have found the home to be excellent and meets my dad's dementia needs. The home is lovely and clean, the staff are always friendly. Would definitely recommend.
My experience is very good. This is my first residential home but in general it is very good, but more sound insulation in the rooms would help. Cannot add anything to this but I am satisfied.
My wife has been a resident of Kirkland for three months. She is well cared for and I feel she is safe. Her condition is such that communication with her is difficult but I can see the relationship the staff are managing to build improves daily, this makes her life within Kirklands a much more positive experience than we were able to provide at home. I am very happy with the care my wife receives and I feel all members of staff provide a high standard of care to all residents within Kirklands.
The staff are all exceptionally caring and very very kind to our mum.
My husband has been a resident since September 2018. He is very happy and well cared for. The staff are very pleasant and he enjoys the many activities provided.
My mother has been a resident in Kirkland's for just under six months, since settling in her overall condition has improved measurably. She now has a happy and positive attitude and enjoys all activities, she is doing things she has never done before and enjoying them. The staff are really helpful and she is responsive to all activities that are provided. She is now eating regularly and looks forward to mealtimes, has never complained and is always given a choice.
Moving a loved one into residential care is a very hard decision for any family. However, moving my mum into the safe and caring environment of Kirklands in September has given me so much reassurance that my decision was indeed the correct one. She has support and help with her self-care and decision making that was previously causing her distress, company that has stimulated her speech and I have the reassurance in knowing that she is being fed well and her nutrition monitored effectively. A recent phone call to mum's sister in New Zealand when I heard her say to her sister that she was safe and happy now, reflected the homely environment and the staff very positively. Thank you.
My mother died in November a few days short of her 99th birthday having been resident at Kirklands since suffering a stroke some 3 1/2 years ago. I must express my sincere thanks for the wonderful way the staff looked after my mum throughout her stay at Kirklands I have nothing but praise for the way she was treated. In total, my mother was a resident of Anchor for over 33 years from 1984, at a number of other homes, before moving to Kirklands in 2014.
I have recommended Kirklands to several people after our experiences with mum. Some are residents now.
Mother well cared for, well fed and kept warm. Involved in activities but carers willing to transfer to a motorised wheelchair when I take it in weekly to take her to the farm.
My mum settled in very quickly and the friendly and attentive staff no doubt helped in this process. The home is well maintained, the food is excellent and the whole atmosphere is homely and welcoming. In the words of mum "What's not to like". Knowing mum is safe, cared for and content is a great comfort to her family.
My mother is very content in all aspects at Kirklands. She is 93 years old and it is a great relief to me that she is cared for so well.
The care home is very good but often understaffed, to the cleaners, carers and activity co-ordinators. They all try to do the best they can. Some of the food could be better for old people carrot and orange soup isn't what they want, and bacon that was served the other week was fatty and dry and hard, I couldn't attempt to eat it even with a full set of teeth. If the staff had more time to spend with the residents as they all have different personalities and needs and it takes time.
