View Full Details of Stilecroft Residential HomeThe rooms downstairs are old, dated and uninviting. My mum was only there for 2 weeks, the senior care assistant was the most helpful and the night downstairs night staff would rather be sat looking at their phones than helping residents who are shouting for help. Every time we visited, some of Mum's clothes were missing or there were ones in her wardrobe that didn't belong to her. When we moved Mum to a new place, the manageress didn't even have the courtesy to come out of her office to say goodbye.
My mam has had dementia for a few years but began to decline quite rapidly. After a stay in the hospital, she was discharged to assess to Stilecroft. Hardest thing ever to put your mam in a home. Took a while for us all to get used to it. The staff work hard, very hard. The home is clean and warm and the the food looks great. Lots of activities on offer. We can visit anytime (meal times are protected). Mam's room is nice and warm. Staff are down to earth and approachable and do a fantastic job. If we have any concerns we can ring and speak to someone. Not an easy job to care for someone with dementia, certainly takes a special kind of person. Thanks so much for coming and going as we please and for letting us help care for Mam when we can.
My mum was discharged from the hospital after 5 months of rehab following a complex ankle break which left her fully dependent and immobile. The 5 months also saw my dad pass away. The staff have been responsive in helping her adapt to new life in residential care and she decided she would stay. She is beginning to feel more safe and comfortable with most of the staff, the food, her room and the routines but has yet to decide to make use of the activities available. On the whole, I think the staff helped her in settling. Thanks.
Very helpful staff made the visit welcome and went well. The resident was looking well and offered drinks.
My mother got admitted to the home from the hospital for what turned out to be a short stay as she suddenly and sadly passed away start of May 2024. The home knew absolutely nothing about her when she went. We visited my Mum 4 days before her sudden sad passing. She was fast asleep in the conservatory on the sofa. She was extremely cold and extremely confused. We told the staff she had a history of really bad health related to being cold. We had to ask for a blanket. It took until two days before her sudden sad passing when they eventually got her a strange doctor visit who did not do anything. Someone at the home told the hospital my Mum had a DNR which was completely untrue. My Dad who was next of kin had to speak and convince two hospital consultants not to acknowledge what had been told to them. My Mum had numerous important clothes items lost that held extremely special memories for me and my Dad. My partner had to sort my Mum's room, it was just left. We did not have a good experience of the home at all
My dad moved to Stilecroft towards the end of his life. The staff couldn't do enough to make sure he was comfortable and well cared for. They were kind and attentive. My dad was treated with dignity.
Today was the first time I had been inside the home apart from the conservatory. My mother-in-law's room was bright, cheerful and happy, and apart from her hair, looked well cared for. The staff we met today were warm and friendly towards us and her. The home is not purpose-built, and in parts, needs a revamp, but we are happy with the care overall. Sorry, can't comment on activities or value for money.
You must understand due to Covid, access to the home has been very limited, and for the first time in 12-months, not at all. In my opinion, the problems in the home have been caused by poor management, which means the staff have not been supervised properly at a very difficult time due to the pandemic.
Arrived at 10 am, took Covid test, filled in form and let in at 10.30 to see my mother. All staff pleasant, friendly and efficient. Mothers room very clean and tidy. She is very happy here and no complaints.
My dad was accepted at Stilecroft at the beginning of the year. We are more than happy with the way Dad is being cared for; it's a lovely home, and all the staff are amazing. Dad always comments on how well he is looked after and has become a more outgoing person while he's in there. The building itself may need a bit of upgrading, but that doesn't affect the care and attention that all the residents are getting. We are so pleased Dad is settled and happy. We're relieved that someone is there for him, as we tried and couldn't take care of him like they do.
I have found the staff very helpful. When I have visited, I have found Dad to be comfortable and clean. So the family are happy with Dad's care. Dad always says he wants his ice cream in a dish, not a cone.
Lovely Building decorated nicely inside, very homely feel to it. My Husband was a resident here for many years, I visited the home 3 times per week. I was always very welcome, made cups of tea and joined in with the activities. My husband loved it here, he made 2 very good friends who and would sit and have a game of cards after lunch. It was always reassuring that my partner of 50 years was being cared for by such compassionate, professional care assistants. Sadly, he passed away recently but I will always have very fond memories of his last years at Stilecroft Residential Home. Would recommend to others.
