View Full Details of ElderwoodOur dad was admitted to Elderwood Care Home in October 2024 and remained in their Care until 11th February 2025 with Parkinson's. He had given up on life due to a family tragedy but the moment we stepped through the doors we knew this would be the place to nurse him back to health. From the Management Staff, Team-Leaders, Day-time and Night-time carers, the Cleaners and the Maintenance man, they always showed him and ourselves the upmost respect and professionalism, love and kindness. As a result of the care and support he received whilst at Elderwood he has managed to return to his home to live semi-independently. As a family we would like to thank all the staff for giving us our dad back. We would highly recommend Elderwood Care Home and if we could give it a 10 star review we would. So don't let the Sun catch You Crying.
Dad took very poorly in December 2024 and chose to remain at Elderwood until he passed away on 2nd January 2025. The care, dignity and support given to him and our family was second to none. Every member of showed genuine love and compassion. Carers mopped his brow, held his hand, stroked his forehead and whispered words of comfort to him in his final hours. I cannot stress how outstanding the care given was. Dad passed away in peace and with dignity. Words cannot express our gratitude at this very sad time.
One of the most caring, compassionate and respectful care homes in Darlington. My mum suffers from a poor prognosis of Parkinson's and Lewis Body Dementia and hated the thought of having to leave her home and go into a care home. Elderwood turned that around for my mum. They made her feel welcome, comfortable and cared for and although not her home, she feels settled here and safe. Well done and thank you for caring for my mum so attentively, staff are amazing.
Our friend has been a resident in Elderwood for nine months and as regular visitors we are impressed with the facilities and the staff who are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble and the level of care is excellent. A place we would be happy to go into ourselves.
I have had close contact with the care home between October 2023 and July 2024. My wife had reluctantly agreed to go into this home due to falls and lack of mobility. The staff were very helpful and the management was excellent from the top management through to carers, kitchen staff, and cleaning staff. I experienced some time as a resident for 9 weeks at Christmas 2023 to keep my wife company at a difficult time. The night staff were exceptional as with the staff. My admiration of care at the home still remains.
Delighted with mum's care, she has settled so well due to the care of the staff, the quality of food and the environment. Mum is always up and dressed, eating well and is relaxed with the staff. So nice to have more staff and no agency staff who don't know mum.
At the beginning we were uncertain of what to expect from my mam coming to stay at Elderwood. From the moment we stepped into the home we were greeted by the most helpful and kindest staff. My mam felt immediately happy and content to be here. From then onwards things have just got better. My mam feels so special and feels like she has so many new friends (staff). Our family feel so relieved that she is kept so safe. And the friendly, warm experience which she receives every single day with (all) the staff is an extra bonus. As a family we couldn't be any happier.
Everyone is always so welcoming. It's like one big family. My dad feels safe and secure here. The staff are always there when I need them. Thank you so much.
We were quite anxious about placing Mum in a nursing home for two weeks of respite care; however, the care she was given could not be faulted, and we would certainly use Elderwood Nursing Home again. All of the staff were very friendly and caring, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The administrator was also very helpful and informative when we initially made contact with the home. Whilst at the home, Mum was encouraged to join in the activities and visit the dining room for lunch, she also enjoyed resting in a very comfy room.
When Mum first came to Elderwood, we asked her if she was happy, healthy and safe. She said yes and still does. The staff are amazing and she feels like she is living in a 5-star spa hotel.
My husband has been in Elderwood for 14 weeks and it is a fantastic home, so clean, all the staff are so caring and thoughtful, nothing is any trouble to them and has a family feeling every time you go in.
My mother says her stay was very nice all the staff from cleaners food and care was very nice. All the staff are very polite. She says that anyone needing respite or care would recommend Elderwood very highly.
Elderwood has looked after my mother with great loving, respectful care right up to her peaceful passing. The management and staff constantly provide a professional manner to both the residents, families, and friends. I cannot speak highly enough of this care home.
My father has recently been in for a 2-week stay for respite. The care and kindness of the staff was exceptional. The food is of a very high quality and I would not hesitate to recommend this care home.
Very happy with my stay at Elderwood. The food was excellent, as was cleanliness and staff.
My mum (eighty-three) and her partner (ninety-seven) have used this care home twice for respite care. The care and kindness, from all staff, is exceptional. The food is hotel quality and the activities are enjoyable and appropriate. They both love coming to stay and say they are 'going on holiday'! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Elderwood to anyone who needs long or short-term care.
Second time Dad has stayed and the standard of care is amazing. Staff are lovely and genuinely seem to care about their residents. The bonus is all their clothes arrive home washed, ironed and packed in their cases. So, well done Elderwood.
My father is happy and well settled in the care home. He is quite contented with the with the wide choice of meals provided and can choose whether to eat in his room or in the dining room. The staff members are kind, considerate and look after him well.
I have been kept well informed about the resident's health and other needs. I have learned to take the resident's comments and occasional complaints with a considerable pinch of salt, knowing their propensity to believe totally their own interpretation of actions and words. The resident appears to manage within their limitations.
My aunt has been a resident of Elderwood for over two years now and, apart from not being able to visit because of Covid restrictions, I'm very pleased with the care she has received from all the staff. While I'm there visiting, she is always treated with dignity and respect. I do, however, find the cost of care very expensive.
