View Full Details of Sandford Care HomeIt is a pleasure to write this review for Sandford Care Home where I have been a weekly visitor to the dementia unit for the past four and a half years. On entry, the ambience with the light bright and airy decor, furnishing and displays presents a warm welcoming, attention to detail and loving care home which is exactly what it is. Sandford is competent and led by a qualified, caring, inspirational leadership team. Manager is very and always pleasant, approachable as are all staff. Issues if any are resolved quickly and with discretion. Teamwork is good. Treat residents like family and this is amazing and humbling. Sandford is a home-from-home and for me simply the best.
My mum has been a resident at Sandford Care Home now approaching twelve months. Initially she found it difficult to adjust but after a number of weeks of attentive care and staff encouragement also coupled with moving to a new room, she quickly settled. The care staffs help and support at all times has been of the highest standard. It is noticeable that all staff are engaging and communicative, which includes the maintenance, domestic and catering staff which makes my mum's residency more of a familiar community and she usually shows signs of being content, happy and always treated with respect and dignity. Although rarely needed, contact with the management or administrative staff is easily accessible. Overall the environment is welcoming, clean, tidy and safe as are the individual rooms. Meal times are rightly protected but the food I have seen appears to be appetising, varied and of ample portions. When visiting, I can find my mum happily interacting with other residents in the day area or frequently engaged in the many regular activities on offer. Alternatively she occasionally decides to spend some private time in her room, which is respected by the staff. I'm satisfied my mum is being well looked after.
My Aunt has been in Sandford for over three years now and has been very well looked after. She was very frail and underweight when she first arrived and she made a marked improvement after a couple of months, with good food and proper care. The staff are kind, caring and professional and the manager is great and very positive. They are quick to communicate if she is unwell, which I really appreciate. It really means a lot to me that she is in safe hands. Sandford is clean, bright, and freshly decorated. A big thank you to the manager and all the staff.
The staff are really friendly and helpful to the wife they understand her needs and behaviour and work with her to take care of her they also keep me and the family well informed of any problems. She is always giving them smiles and hugs as she walks around the home. All the staff does a wonderful job of looking after her and nothing is too much trouble and from the manager down everyone is approachable and helpful.
Absolutely fabulous care home, my uncle loves it here, he loves the staff, the food and the activities. Today they had the scaly safari in to visit were they get to hold and interact with exotic animals. He also loves the singers when they come in and the activities coordinator does daily exercises, games, gardening, crafts and they are learning Christmas carols to sing to us at the Christmas party.
My 92-year-old mother has been in the dementia unit for 3+ years now (went in during the Covid lockdown). All the staff are caring and loving and look after all her physical needs and mental health so well. The manager is excellent and has made some great improvements to the home. All the staff are excellent. She's had quite a few times when she has been very poorly, the staff have managed to pull her through with their kindness and coaxing her to drink and eat, etc. Mum looks forward to having her weekly visit to the on-site hair salon. The staff sing to her, encouraging her to join in and to take part in the activities. They have parties throughout the year such as Halloween and Christmas where family members can also go along. She really enjoys the food and it is catered for her tastes, such as cornflakes for breakfast but the milk has to be ice cold, the way she's always liked it. I've occasionally had some of the meals with her and they've all been very tasty.
My mum has been given the best care she could hope for. The staff are very good with her and do not push her to do things she doesn't want to do. She is always treated with dignity and although she can no longer speak, through the smiles she gives to staff, you can see that she is happy there.
Our mum has been in Sandford Care Home since July 2023. She settled in very quickly which we put down to the kindness and compassion that is shown to her by all the staff. They always treat her with respect and dignity and it's lovely to go in and see her so relaxed and at ease. It's great knowing she has 24-hour care, so Dad can be her husband again and not her carer. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff or manager and they're always on hand to update us on how she's doing. The home is always spotlessly clean, her room is always tidy and the meals always smell yummy. Mum loves to be outside as much as possible and this is never a problem for the staff, they all keep a watch on her. I would recommend Sandford Care Home to others and I would like to take this opportunity to thank management and staff for everything they do for our beautiful mum.
Living a good distance from a loved one that is in a care home is a concerning prospect for most people, but the team at Sandford keep me fully informed about Mum. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Mum is always happy when I visit, always clean and tidy.
My husband was transferred to Sandford in 2020 after almost 18 months in Hospital and he settled in very quickly. The staff are all very pleasant and friendly and during the Covid 'nightmare' did everything they could to facilitate safe visits. He has his books, TV, music, and a large model train layout (yet to be completed) and is happy and content.
My father has a lovely, spacious ensuite room with an inspiring view out to the Irish Sea. The staff are always very friendly and helpful, and any medical needs are able to be quickly met. There is good communication from the home to me as next of Kin. We were very pleased when the home was able to make available and prepare a room for a special birthday celebration. My father enjoys the food and feels well looked after.
Since Dad has been at Sandford his health and well-being has improved dramatically, now he is getting his medication administered and reviewed on a regular basis, enjoys delicious hot meals, and has company and activities to keep him occupied. All the staff are absolutely amazing, from the care staff who are caring and compassionate, to the admin, managers, domestics, maintenance, and catering who all play their part in making Sandford home for Dad. Nothing is too much trouble for any of them, and they are friendly and welcoming when I visit weekly. Seeing Dad thrive gives us, as a family, great peace of mind. I would highly recommend Sandford to anyone looking for a new home for themselves or a family member.
Since my son-in-law's grandmother entered Sanford Care Home, the family has seen a marked change in their mother/grandmother. Such support for their relationship is second to none and clearly seen by the improvement their relation has had since moving to Sandford earlier in 2024. Unfortunately, the user's mental health has deteriorated as per condition but the changes/challenges have been expertly met by the staff and management at Sandford, and on behalf of not only the service user but myself (power of attorney) and her family we thank Sandford for all their close and excellent attention. We wish to collectively thank Sandford for their continued support.
The care given to my mother is excellent and I am always kept informed if she is not feeling too well. Although my mother's condition has deteriorated over the past two years she continues to feel well looked after in a homely atmosphere and the staff are really caring. It is also appreciated that additional services are also arranged such as chiropody, hairdressing, and an optician.
Dad has been at the care home for nearly 12 Months, we didn't ever expect Dad to have to use such a service but ended up being necessary. The staff have all been friendly and professional with Dad and all the Family who visit, you couldn't ask for a better team to look after a loved one. We all feel confident Dad's best interests are always considered. He doesn't want to be in a care home, but always says he is well looked after by all the staff and really enjoys the food. We all feel better knowing Dad is safe and cared for well at Sandford's. Thank you very much.
Our dad has been in Sandford since December and settled in remarkably quickly considering he was reluctant to leave his own home of nearly 50 years. It was a big step for him but the staff made him feel so welcome and for the first time in a long time he felt warm and safe. He got to know the staff and recognised those who saw him most days. They always show him kindness and thoughtfulness, and a couple of the staff have a banter with him and share a joke or two which he loves. Nothing is too much trouble for the management team and staff, and they’re quick to respond to anything we, as a family, request for Dad. It’s an excellent home and we would recommend it for the peace of mind it offers us all. Thank you to the manager and staff.
Mum moved into Sandford in February 2023. Sadly, she suddenly and unexpectedly became very ill and passed away just over two weeks later. The care and compassion shown to Mum in this short time was exceptional from all staff involved, treating her with such respect and dignity in her final days. I cannot thank them enough. In particular, the manager, who spent a lot of time with Mum, ensured she was never alone. He also went out of his way to find the retro CD player so Mum's favourite music could be played in the background. In addition, he spent time making sure that I was ok during this difficult time. They were also caring for Dad in the dementia unit. Sandford is an exceptional care home; it has a homely, family atmosphere, and the residents I met are happy. I always received friendly greetings from those I met. It thoroughly deserves its place in the Top 20 care homes in Wales. Dad moved into the dementia unit at Sandford in January 2023 after spending six weeks in hospital. He settled in very well and, like Mum, received exceptional individual care from all the staff who looked after him. They dealt very rapidly with any medical needs that arose, and the manager and staff were in regular communication with us at all times. He was very content and comfortable in his room and was delighted with the special chair provided, enabling him to sit up and look outside or have a comfy snooze. As a result of the care and excellent food (many thanks to the wonderful chef), we noticed an improvement in Dad's cognitive condition. He enjoyed looking at family photos during visits with my brother, especially the family pets we had over the years. As with Mum, Dad was cared for with dignity and compassion, and it was so reassuring for the family, knowing they were both in such good hands.
The staff look after my mother-in-law like she is part of the family. The building always smells lovely. My mother-in-law loves the food and always says how nice it is. She likes Sunday dinner the best.
Since becoming a resident Dad's health has improved significantly. His diabetes is managed well along with other health and mobility issues. Staff take time to engage throughout the day and we (family) visit regularly which has helped stabilise his dementia, looking forward to visits, chats and news. Dad feels safe and secure in his en-suite room with many of his own possessions, helping him feel 'at home'. Care home management are always available for information and updates and the staff always treat Dad with respect and care.
After having had a very negative experience with another local care home, we were, as a family, understandably nervous and concerned about what we would find when first visiting Sandford. I need not have worried. From the first time I met with the manager, I was put at ease. He totally understood our concerns and what we hoped for when it came to our mum's care and assured me that they would put Mum's needs first and not expect her to fit into a 'regime'. Mum moved in and, from the first day, the care has been as the manager said it would be. Mum is allowed to 'get up' in the mornings when she feels ready to do so. She is encouraged to eat in the dining room with other residents, which is good for her and encourages her to eat, but if she chooses not to do so, then that is fine too. As a result of this 'person-centred' approach, Mum settled in quite quickly and is clearly happy, comfortable, has her individuality and independence recognised and is 'cared for'. We could not ask for more.
