We had a unique and wonderful experience at Pencoed this past year. My mother was a resident there for exactly one year to the day. She passed on October 14. Her mother had been a resident there for almost 25 years before that. My family and I live in western Canada so frequent visits were impossible but we did visit a couple of times. When someone you love has to go to a care home trust becomes the greatest worry. The manager and staff not only gained our trust but exceeded any expectations we had. Everyone there was gifted with kindness, compassion, and professionalism, and every time we spoke on the phone my mother would always mention how much she loved the people there. We can't thank you all enough for all you did this past year, it was our pleasure to meet you all.
My mum has been at Pencoed since February 2023, and I can’t praise the manager and staff enough for all the support and kindness myself and my mum have received. The atmosphere is always friendly, and staff make an effort to make everyone feel at home and comfortable. No request is ever too much trouble, and my mum has always been treated with dignity and respect. Every day I visit my mum, I am given a warm welcome, and it now feels like a second home to me. Thank you, everyone at Pencoed, for all your hard work, kindness and excellent care you provide. I would highly recommend Pencoed.
My mum has now been a resident of Pencoed for the last four months (may it continue for many years to come!). After her initial unsettling long-distance move to be closer to family, we are amazed at how well she has settled in. We can not thank the staff enough for their kindness and dedication; they all work so hard, and nothing is ever too much trouble. We love their open-door policy; you are always made to feel so welcome when visiting. Mum now has a new lease on life, and it is wonderful to see. We would highly recommend Pencoed. Thank you to the manager and your great team.
My mum was a resident at Pencoed for the last two and a half years of her life, during that time, despite the vast majority of it being under Covid, she was always happy and content being there. As Mum approached her final days, I had the opportunity to witness first-hand the care that the staff gave, and the experience was humbling. The care was everything that our family could have hoped for.
My mum has been a resident of Pencoed for over 3-years. She is treated with kindness, patience and dignity in every situation. The staff are all lovely, and nothing is too much trouble for them. Entertainment is organised on a regular basis. The accommodation is very pleasant and the rooms well appointed with the touch of home; that is important.
My friend has been at Pencoed for over a dozen years and is very happy there. Whenever I visit whoever opens the door knows exactly where she is sitting and directs me straight there. In the early years, we would go to sit in the conservatory to chat and she would contentedly tell me what was happening in her world. Now, although she is not so chatty, she consistently looks comfortably and warmly dressed. I am regularly offered a cup of tea or coffee so I feel comfortable visiting. There are always a lot of staff moving around so I know she is constantly monitored, which, as she grows frailer, is reassuring. All the residents appear to be happy and those with mobility problems are offered a friendly arm. If I ever need to go to a residential home I would be very happy to go to Pencoed.
Mom has been in Pencoed for around 4-years now and I am more than happy with the care provided. Over that time, I have got to know the team well. They have always been kind and thoughtful, and I have every confidence in them. They take the time to get to know each resident, their history and their families. I have always felt that I could visit at any time and would be made welcome. In fact, families are encouraged to actively participate in the life of the home and in a variety of activities. Despite the additional pressures and restrictions during this pandemic, they have been happy to take phone calls at any time and arrange for me to do a video call with Mom when they could. The team have continued to support Mom (and me!) through her various health issues and deteriorating dementia with respect, understanding and professionalism. Moving Mom into a care home was a very difficult decision, and I visited several places before that decision was made. I would recommend Pencoed.
