View Full Details of Tregwilym Lodge Nursing and Residential HomeGeneral care overall seems to have been good. The activities team are so friendly and the office staff have been helpful. On the whole, the carers have been very good, especially given the way they are treated by some patients. The rooms are ok but in all fairness, I can see improvements are ongoing at the home so I think things are improving constantly.
Overall no major issues with Tregwilym Lodge. The carers and management are very good and helpful regarding any medical and admin issues. The food standard is good. If I have an issue, it is with the care of laundry.
Ticked excellent in every box, that's what you all are. Above and beyond. Your care and respect to my husband was first class, also the kindness at all times to me and my family. I can't thank you enough. Kind regards.
My mother has been at Tregwilym Lodge now for just over a year. When she came her right leg was very ulcerated with a deep open wound. The team treated it with a mixture of some compression dressings etc. and dressing and cleaning. Through their continuous hard work Mum's leg is now completely better, which it had not for about six years. Thank you all, you've done an amazing job, and Mom is now out of pain. Many thanks.
Every time I visit, planned or unplanned, the home is always very clean and welcoming. Regular activities are planned to stimulate and motivate residents and to enable them. My Dad is always treated with care, understanding and compassion and his 1:1 nursing and emotional needs are met. All staff are really engaged and enthusiastic to provide a lovely atmosphere. Communication via social media and Newsletters is regular and re-assuring. Management have always responded promptly to any queries. Residents are treated as individuals and they are respected as people. I'm always made to feel welcome and actually part of the team when invited on a walk with Dad and other residents. Outings are always in small numbers to provide fun, care and support. Living far away, I really feel Dad is safe, cared for happy as is possible in a situation where he needs 24-hour care. From the laundry staff, to carers, nursing staff, activities co-ordinators and office/management, Tregwilym Lodge goes beyond. Thank you.
My husband was accepted into this home after months in hospital for nursing care. He deteriorated and lost weight in hospital. Within days of being in the home, my husband is getting stronger physically and mentally. He is being washed and dressed daily instead of being in pyjamas. He is responding to staff and smiling. He has started eating without help and enjoying his food. The residents are constantly being given hot and cold drinks and biscuits. There is a high level of caring and residents are always clean and tidy.
My wife and I visited my brother-in-law following the passing of his wife. We were very impressed by the genuine care and concern of him. He seemed happy and contented although confused by his dementia. Thank you.
I have had a very positive experience dealing with the staff at Tregwilym Lodge. Very nice people, very friendly and caring.
The staff - from the manager, entertainment team, carers, hospitality and anyone else, always gives 110%. My mother receives care above and beyond my expectations. 24-hour access, constant communication - all problems, big or small are dealt with in a quick time scale. Caring, considerate and highly efficient team. In my opinion, no improvement needed as all perfect.
My elderly mother has had to transfer from residential to nursing care. I am struck by how warm and welcoming the staff are. I am always greeted by a smile and a wave. The best way to describe the home is vibrant, fun, professional and compassionate. Check out their Facebook page to see the sort of things they do. My mother’s health is very poor but I am confident that she is getting excellent care and the staff cares about her well-being. I have pointed out to the management of the home that in addition to focusing on my mother, the attitude, behaviour and communication of the staff is helping me at a very difficult time. I am very impressed with how I can pop into the home at any time day or night and I can meet with nursing staff to discuss my mother’s health and needs. I confirm that the excellent review by statutory bodies reflects my experience of the home. Moving my mother to the home was the right decision.
Happy place but needs updating in some rooms. Staff very helpful and friendly. More useful activities required.
My mum was a resident of Tregwilym Lodge for over a year before she passed away in March. Myself and my family will always be truly grateful to the staff for the way she was looked after. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them, even when she wasn't being particularly cooperative. The house is always clean and smells nice. The staff took her on so many days out I can't remember them all, Castle Bingo, Barry Island, Cafes for lunch, walks in the park, Cwmbran Community Farm, the Tregwilym Arms Non-alcoholic bar and paddling pool in the garden, just to name a few. They also had a lot of visits from entertainers, singers, animals (though I'm not sure about the tarantula), and the staff were always doing things to keep the residents entertained, bingo, dancing, making pancakes, gardening etc. Thank you everyone for looking after my mum so well.
Very good staff who are very polite. The home always smells clean and tidy. My wife is always treated with dignity and respect. I always feel welcomed on entry. Management are very approachable. The kitchen always accommodates my wife's dietary needs. There are always activity events going on which I am happy to volunteer for.
All very welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble when asking for anything. Always clean. Wonderful activities but he does not always join in. I have nothing to complain about.
My experience so far with the care home has been very good. Staff very friendly and helpful. The home itself very clean and airy. Food is to a good standard.
Tregwilym Lodge rediscovered my uncle’s smile. During a time when his mind and body started to fail him, the staff in the Home found things he could do that made him happy. This included trips out like the cinema and bingo, to activities in the Home like making bird food cakes and playing games with the carers. Care was taken to ensure that activities were accessible and he felt like part of the family in the Home. Whenever there was a change in his health and support needs they contacted the family straight away. I would highly recommend Tregwilym Lodge to anyone looking for somewhere to care for their loved one. When your loved one’s care needs are too much to be handled at home you want them to end up somewhere like Tregwilym Lodge. They treat residents as individuals cater to their needs with love and care, and create the home environment away from home.
Unfortunately, the rumours of terrible care, unsympathetic staff and just an overall bad experience were all true. If you care for your loved ones and still want them to live as full of a life as possible, do not bring them here. The higher management was extremely rude and unsympathetic and it bordered on bullying. They were stopping my Nan enjoying her life. She was brought food which was just left on the side in her room, knowing full well that Nan cannot feed herself. Nan was left to sit in her hot room when staff left faeces all in her toilet and they failed to clean Nan up afterwards. The smell was quite unbearable, so I dread to think how long the staff left her like that. We were complaining about the lack of activities, and when the clinical manager went through the activities report, she reported Nan engaging with the activity staff. Nan was not even in the home at the time of the activity.
I just wanted to thank all the staff who put on the cream tea yesterday for Mother's Day. Myself and my daughter had a lovely time, spending quality time with Mum who looked happy that we were there with her. Please pass on our thanks to the manager and staff. Thank you once again.
