Mum went into the care home in April 2023. She was well looked after right up until she lost her fight on 27th December. The carers that were finishing their shift on the Tuesday came in to say goodbye to her which was very touching. I would like to say thanks to all the carers for all they do and what they have to put up with. They are the unsung heroes of the care service and deserve medals for their dedication.
It is never easy having to see a loved one going to stay in a care home! I have visited a few over the years and we were dreading this journey for Mum. The whole team at Fernlea are so brilliant, supportive and kind and it makes a very stressful time a much better experience. We are so lucky that Mum has such a wonderful team of people taking care of her. This gives us peace of mind knowing that Mum is being looked after by such a wonderful group of individuals who always go the extra mile. There is a real sense of community! Thank you Fernlea.
Overall, as the daughter of a resident in Fernlea, I am very happy with the level of care my mother receives. Staff are absolutely fantastic, nothing is too much for them. There is always something going on for the residents. Arts and crafts, outings, singers, themed days etc. The food is fantastic. A very food variety of food. Again they celebrate all the different occasions and provide the food to complement them too.
Fernlea House is an amazing place. I have visited family and friends in many different care homes over the years, but none that I was entirely satisfied with, until Fernlea. My mum has been a resident there for just over two years and has received excellent care in all respects. She is always clean, smart and carefully dressed, which she always likes to be. She has always enjoyed her food and has continued to do so because the food at Fernlea is very good and very well presented. The staff are incredible and when I say staff, I mean everyone. They are respectful, caring, and compassionate. A friend visiting with me said, “I think you must have to pass a kindness test to work here.” I am always made to feel very welcome. Thank you to everyone.
My mum has been a resident in Fernlea House for over two years. The care she has received is amazing. The staff are patient, compassionate and always take the time to make sure my mum is comfortable and happy. I am always made to feel very welcome whilst visiting and any questions I have are always answered honestly and in a caring manner. There are many different types of jobs within the home, and every one of the staff works hard to maintain a lovely, positive, happy and very clean environment. My mum loves her meals too. Thank you to everyone at Fernlea House for looking after my mum so well.
My stepfather has only been a resident in Fernlea House Care Home for a short period and has already been on several outings. There are also various activities within the home which he is able to participate in. He has been able to bring furnishings from home and his room is spacious, allowing him a sitting area within his room to watch TV and accommodate a small fridge and dining table. The staff are nice and very approachable, allowing him to settle into the home. Any minor concerns we have raised have been dealt with promptly. Overall, we are very happy with the standard of care he has received. There is a homely atmosphere and we always feel welcome to visit. My stepfather has had several individuals visiting him and we have received positive feedback from them all.
In 2016, I had to look for a care home for my mum due to dementia. Fernlea was not my first choice, and I had experienced other homes because of other relatives being in care. Whenever I went there, I was very happy with the cleanliness and how fresh it smelt. In all those years, it has never changed. Also, the friendliness of the team and how they dealt with their residents assured me this would be the right place for my mum. I have had no complaints and am still very grateful for how my mum is treated in the home.
I've been visiting my life-long friend in Fernlea House Care Home for the past two years she's been there. Since new ownership, I am really impressed by the improvements made, for me especially, the new quiet room where I was able to sit with my friend, decor etc. lovely in her own room, however, windows are too high for her to see out and see what's going on. Even with dementia, this area was good for us. Thank you for making the care home a lovely place to be.
The staff and care have been amazing. My sister, who is a very fussy person, just loves it here. The staff are very caring. Everyone is very friendly and chatty. Thank you, Fernlea House, for employing such caring staff.
The care and feeling of a nice place hits you as soon as you walk in the door. Smells lovely, and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. My aunt is well cared for and has no complaints. I am very confident in leaving her in the home as the staff are second to none; they know her needs and wants. Lovely place - can't recommend it enough.
Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere when you go in. Very welcoming when answering the door and phone.
My mum had lived at Fernlea House for the past year. From the beginning, all the staff have shown care, compassion and professionalism to my mum and me. Staff take time to get to know the residents and understand their needs. My mum is treated with respect and kindness. There are regular activities and all residents are encouraged to join in. The chefs provide nutritious, home-cooked meals. My mum is very settled in Fernlea and I can 100% recommend this care home.
My mother has settled into the care home. With the fantastic support from the care team, my mother is treated with dignity and respect by the team. She enjoys the interaction with staff and other residents as she was isolated in her house due to only having carers popping in 3 times a day for one hour. She enjoys the activities and will participate with others. She is happy with her meals. I am happy to see she is kept clean and appropriately dressed.
Choosing a home for a parent is like choosing a school for your child. You feel bad they need to go into care and you know your decision has to be the right one. I looked at so many homes and Fernlea was not my first choice but when I visited it, I did not think it was the poshest I had seen , but straight away I liked how the staff were with the residents. I have been in homes where they are left to vegetate. At Fernlea mum is taken out in their mini bus for wee trips, she is involved in practical things, making cards, baking, and surprisingly I hear she even joins in the sing songs. They celebrate residents birthdays have entertainment and have a church service once a month where they can request their favourite hymns. Mum has Alzheimer's and I constantly worried about her before I don't any more. But it's not about me it's all about her and to see her happier and know she feels safe now means a lot, so thank you Fernlea here's one who think you do a great job x
