View Full Details of North Merchiston Care HomeI have always been happy and reassured with the care received. I am kept fully updated on care and treatments given.
My husband has been in North Merchiston now for a few months! Have found the staff and doctors very helpful and understanding, as I miss my husband so much! I so appreciate what they all do for him.
Our mother has been a resident at North Merchiston care home since January 2020 and has received, and continues to receive, excellent care from the staff. Such care is valued by the family, particularly in such a challenging environment that has seen a high turnover of staff and resources at the home and throughout the sector. We are particularly grateful for the support from those members of staff that have been there throughout mum's care and the stability this provides.
After an exceptionally difficult two years affected by Covid19 North Merchiston Care Home continues to provide a high level of care. The day-to-day care provided by the carers has always been good but has improved throughout this year. Activities are clearly enjoyed by the residents whether on or off-site. And generally, all staff normally greet me with a genuine smile.
Dad has been in North Merchiston Care Home for almost 3 years now and continues to receive excellent care. The staff have got to know Dad really well, they appreciate his likes and dislikes and most importantly they treat him with dignity and respect. Dad is always well turned out - neatly dressed, clean, shaven and has his hair cut regularly. He very much enjoys the food provided by the care home's kitchen - particularly puddings! Just recently we had a summer garden party in the grounds of the care home - lots of music, dancing, BBQ and ice cream - the staff had worked really hard to organise the event and it was lovely to see the residents and families out in the sun enjoying themselves and the whole place was buzzing with activity.
What an exceptional care home North Merchiston Care Home is. We are so lucky that mum was allocated a place there. She is so well looked after by all the amazing staff and she is happy and settled. The team there do amazing activities with the residents keeping them stimulated, happy and entertained. They are all so attentive to mum and her needs which gives us such great peace of mind. Her room is like a little hotel room with a lovely en suite and her window overlooks the garden. I can't thank the staff enough - knowing mum is so well looked after is a huge amount of pressure off our shoulders. I want to put my name down for the future!
We feel so lucky to have mum at North Merchiston Care Home and know that she is safe and well looked after. Her room is lovely, as is the rest of the home and she has loved spending time in the garden when the weather has allowed. She is gently encouraged to participate in the various organised activities but can spend time in her own space if she wished. All staff have been very caring and excellent at updating us and lovely to see mum's photo on the Facebook page at times.
My husband has settled in here very quickly and is well cared for and content. The staff have got to know him quickly and having assessed his needs tailor his care to suit him. The home is very welcoming and has a lovely bright, clean environment. His room is warm and homely with all his photos on display. He always looks smart and well cared for. The staff are always aware of what is happening in the area and attend to residents' needs promptly. He is unable to verbally express his needs but the staff pick up on signs and seems to be able to assess and anticipate his needs. It has been lovely to see him out in the garden with the other residents enjoying any good weather. He has always been an active, outdoors person so they take him walking around the grounds when possible.
Very clean and very caring staff. I am impressed with the level of care. The staff are wonderful.
Under the present circumstances (Covid-19) I can only praise all staff and management for all their hard work to keep all residents see, plus themselves. Hopefully, we will be able to give our loved ones a cuddle sooner rather than later.
From the initial call to offer the placement, the staff from the Manager to the nurse and carers have been excellent. They have settled my father in law and he is happy and the communication is great, staff just can't do enough. He just loves the food and all of the attention he is given. It is so appreciated by myself and the rest of our family, we have peace of mind that he is being looked after in a safe environment. I have put excellent below for the rooms and cleanliness but have never been in due to covid but from what I have seen I am sure that would be my opinion when I do get to visit.
I found the home ideal for my mum's needs. The rooms are clean and the staff are very friendly. Due to the care, she has been given mum has thrived in her health and mental health.
Wonderful, caring staff who have residents' welfare at heart. They have taken wonderful care of the residents at this very difficult time. My mum has been looked after with respect and dignity. I cannot thank the manager and her staff enough. This has been a very difficult time, not being able to see my mum, but I know she is being looked after and kept safe. You are all stars in my eyes.
My Mum was a resident for four years at North Merchiston Care home and it has had a number of changes in staff and management. My review is about the overall time Mum was a resident, but in particular up to and including her passing on 29th June 2020. The care she received was outstanding. The staff and management were amazing. Our family only has praise for the care home.
I want to make special mention of management's reaction to and handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has been excellent. Special mention to the manager in this regard. We need more information (itemised statement) on personal costs and personal budget for Mum.
My mum was a resident at North Merchiston for 2 1/2 years. My mum was in residential at the beginning I can only praise the staff on that unit, caring, understanding, treated her with understanding, caring and dignity. My mum was profoundly deaf and had glaucoma. Everything took a bit longer but never rushed. Mum then moved to nursing. The same as above. Every member of staff always had a minute for a chat. I can't sing North Merchiston praises enough and my mum was very happy there.
The staff generally ok but too many agency staff. The price rise this year seems excessive. My mum seems settled but tends to stay in her room. I always get good feedback on mum's health and on falls and accidents.
This year the home manager has reviewed every aspect of the care home and recruited diligently to the extent that the home is the most harmonious my family has experienced since my mother was admitted over two years ago. The menus are vastly improved and the social needs are well catered for by a dedicated team. We know our mother could not be in a better place.
To epitomise how I feel about North Merchiston Care Home I would say that in his time there I always feel completely comfortable leaving him in their care. My only reservation is the number of "bank staff" but appreciate this is a problem shared by all areas of the care system in current circumstances.
