View Full Details of Barchester Derham House Care HomeMy Nan had to move into full time care approximately 4/5 weeks ago. The staff at Derham House are really welcoming and super friendly and the home itself is kept clean and tidy. The food and drink seems very nice. The location is lovely! Overall, we are all really pleased with the care that my Nan is receiving. Keep up the good work.
I spent 3 weeks at Derham. Everyone was most helpful and kind as I couldn't ask for more. So thank you Derham House I would certainly recommend you.
My mum came to Derham House on respite straight from a 5 week stay in hospital. She arrived on the Monday and by the Tuesday evening, she told us she wanted to stay. Everyone was helpful, happy and made her feel that she had been living there for a long time. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Everyone is friendly and cares.
My husband was in Derham House for respite care. As his main carer, I was extremely pleased with the care and attention he received from all the staff. I would not hesitate to book him for a further period of respite care. The atmosphere of the entire building is warm and welcoming. All staff go out of their way to be helpful. His nurse care was as good as I could expect, with attention to keep his skin in a good condition as he has had bed sores in the past. I am sure he would not give such a glowing report as it is not home and he missed my cooking!
My father was at Barchester Derham House Care Home, Upminster for eighteen months until he, sadly, passed away recently. The entire staff in every role showed nothing but care, kindness, laughter and fun. The entertainment and activities were exceptional, food, cleaning wonderful. The love and care for Dad in his last hours were amazing. Thank you.
Sadly, our father passed in November 2024. Prior to this date, he stayed in the dementia unit of Barchester Derham House Care Home for almost three years. I really cannot rate this care home highly enough. From the minute Dad stepped onto the unit, he was treated with kindness, respect and dignity. They kept him safe through COVID and beyond. From the reception desk to the staff on the unit, Dad was fondly regarded and when it came time for him to leave us they didn't miss a beat. I was kept constantly updated of his condition and his passing and the processes required from that point onwards were dealt with kindly and with great sensitivity. The daily activities suited our dad so well as he was such an animal lover and also loved to sing out loud - every day! We will miss visiting him at Derham, these last years have been such a pleasure; we feel very blessed to have had this experience and could not be more grateful.
My father came to Derham House for a 4 week respite stay and became a permanent resident at the end of that as the family thought he was in the right place and was being cared for extremely well, which he was - all the staff were caring, considerate and friendly. Unfortunately, my father passed away just a few weeks later. We were paid up until the end of the month and we cleared his room on the day of his passing, which left 5 days of his paid for contract left. We have now received the 2 weeks deposit refunded, but Barchester/Derham House have deducted 2 days fee (£534) as their contract says you have 7 days to clear all possessions (and will charge even more if it goes beyond those 7 days). As we cleared his room on day 1, we feel that 5 days fee is more than enough to cover their 'costs'. We as a family feel that this care home company only 'care' about their bottom line and not the residents or their families. This has left a very bitter taste in our mouths.
My father is currently in Barchester Derham House Care Home for respite care following issues with his right leg as he's unable to take care of himself and the situation was impossible for him to remain at home. The manager and receptionist have gone over and above to help both my father and myself for which I am very grateful. Nothing is too much trouble.
I am pleased to say that I feel very confident in knowing that my husband, who is suffering from dementia, is being taken care of in a way I could never achieve at home on my own. There is generally a happy atmosphere at Barchester Derham House Care Home and plenty of smiles. Thank you.
What a beautiful home this is. Was very anxious and apprehensive but was pleasantly surprised. Such a homely feel, rooms and decor are welcoming and modern, staff of all levels are friendly and helpful, like on big family. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
My Mum has recently joined the residents at Derham House and the staff have gone to great lengths to ensure she has settled in well. She appears very happy when I visit and has engaged in a variety of activities including a D-Day afternoon tea, a visit to the local garden centre, a visiting entertainer, and a visiting pet. She enjoys chatting with other residents and speaks enthusiastically about the care she is given. When I visit I always feel very welcome and am told I can drop in at any time. Mealtimes are lovely and the food is of high quality. Residents sit on tables of four with plenty of interaction over the dinner table! My mum always looks well-presented and tidy and the daily routines in place are having a positive impact on her well-being. I am extremely grateful to all staff for their kindness and care over the past few weeks.
My dad stayed for two weeks of respite care and although we were anxious as it was his first time we need not have worried. The staff were lovely and kept us fully informed even giving him a packed lunch when he attended hospital in case he missed lunch. The food was excellent, just like a hotel with white cloths on the table. There was always a staff member in the lounge and plenty of activities going on. Christmas entertainment was put on and there were several craft activities going on. My dad was allowed to be as independent as he wanted to be and encouraged to join in. The home had a lovely atmosphere and the other residents were friendly and welcoming to my dad. We were very happy with the whole experience. Many thanks to the staff.
Very good. Staff are wonderful every time we come here. Welcomed with a smile. Tea and coffered offer with care. All patients look happy. Care staff were amazing.
Lovely staff. Very friendly, warm and welcoming.
My mum went to Barchester Derham House Care Home for respite care. First impressions were very good, staff were friendly and seemed caring. I informed management and nursing staff that my mum would be going to a flat to live by herself so I wanted them to keep her mobile. Unfortunately, this didn't happen and she's much worse than when first arrived. I know they can't force people to do what they don't want to but there are ways of persuading people, I have been a carer so I know. Food wasn't as good as I thought it would be either.
Comparing this home to one my mum was in this is first-rate. A happy place to be. I might even put my name down to live here.
My wife came from hospital and was end of life care and in the short time she was in the home I found all the staff and the manageress really helpful and caring and showed dignity with my wife. The home was very clean and relaxing. I would recommend this care home to everyone.
I am happy living here and enjoy talking to the carers when they have time. I like being taken for walks and sitting in the gardens. I feel everyone works hard and does their best. I want you to know I appreciate all your efforts and care.
My father was always taken of with kindness by friendly staff with whom he built a great rapport. They would take time to talk to him, making him feel like a part of Derham House and able to join in on activities stimulating and engaging him with other residents myself and our families have nothing but praise for the home and its staff.
My aunt is a resident of Barchester Derham House Care Home. On every occasion I have visited, all the staff are friendly and approachable. The care given to the residents is second to none. There are lots of stimulating activities and outside entertainers brought in to entertain them. The home is spotlessly clean and the staff go out of their way to accommodate the needs of the residents. My aunt has always expressed her happiness in being at the home and the staff demonstrate a genuine affection and care for everyone. The food is very nutritious and again, the staff are very accommodating in meeting my aunt's dietary requirements and will go out of their way to make her something special if she requests it. The grounds are lovely, well kept and maintained.
