Very friendly and helpful staff. My wife was a resident from the 14th of August 2024 to the 6th of December 2024. Was happy and content there, although missing home. Food was good and nourishing and the home was always warm and cosy. The manager was particularly helpful (say, ordering and transferring medication prescriptions to new address).
My mother resided here for 6 and a half years. She had dementia. I believed she was cared for well. When she died last month, I saw the state of her mattress. We took photos, as it was unbelievable. It should never have been used for a frail, vulnerable person who cannot verbalise their discomfort. When I complained, I was told this was not true, the mattress was not wet, soiled nor indented as shown in the photos I took, and it had now been disposed of. My husband put his hand in the soiled mattress, it was damp and smelled bad. The home have neglected my mother's basic piece of furniture as she was bedbound. My mum lay on that mattress for years. They must have known it was defective and soiled. The home say they've now implemented regular mattress checks. But these checks have been a care home requirement for years under NHS audit checks. My mother's mattress must have been noticed each time her bed was made. Management should have ensured defective, soiled mattresses are changed.
I have been very well looked after in Martin Hose. I have gained weight and strenth and am really happy here. I am getting stronger every day. They are very encouraging to me and help me to stand.
Please avoid this care home if possible, the staff are overworked. There does not seem to be a lot of empathy or meeting of the elderly/sick persons' needs. My stepfather spent 3 miserable months in this place until I was able to get him out of there and into a better care home. The place is like a prison and will only inflict misery on any potential guests.
The staff are friendly and professional. They have gone out of their way to help us connect with my mother-in-law, since we live in the USA. Lately we have been doing video chats, and they help us organise these on the mobile phone. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. While we visited, they were open to changing the layout of the room and listened to our ideas, and then made them happen. Our mum didn't want to go into a care home, but she needs 24/7 care. Knowing that our mum is in a place where they are being respected, professionally cared for, gives us piece of mind. Our mum also tells us that the staff are great and they look after her well. For the residents who want to join in the different activities, there are plenty of them. You can see some of the pictures and crafts that the residents have created, which are displayed throughout the home. I would recommend this home.
Very happy with the staff -everyone is friendly and approachable. There are a lot of activities to do. Every time I visit my friend, he is always in the activities, which is good. He seems happy at Martin House. Management is good and easy to talk to. Highly recommend the home.
Very happy with the care, I feel confident when leaving him. He is calm and feels well cared for. The staff are extremely professional. One member of staff is so welcoming on arrival and on the telephone when ringing in, she's a real treasure. The family are very happy with how well my husband to the family about his new home.
When we first started I was a bit apprehensive of the home. I was not sure if it was the right place for my wife. It took a while to get used to the place. The staff are excellent and caring. Time will tell.
My mum appears well and cared for.
My 92-year-old mother is a resident and although she was against going into care, after four weeks in Martin House she loves it. The staff are considerate and caring, know their client's needs/abilities and are compassionate. Families are welcome at all times, residents are encouraged to join in daily activities and nothing is too much trouble.
Our mother has been admitted recently to Martin House and we came over from Ireland to see her. We were very anxious about her being in a home, but at 99 years old, she now needs 24-hour care. From the minute we arrived at reception, we were greeted by caring and friendly staff. Our mother is kept so clean and she is happy and content. Top marks to all staff, thank you.
I am really dissatisfied and disappointed by the approach of the manager who I found to be highly insensitive with her approach to me visiting my dad. As any family going through a difficult period, seeing their loved ones in their final days is hard enough. I found the manager's approach to be rude and aggressive due to me visiting my father. The care home is all about their policy and not about helping family’s cope through these difficult days. It’s really sad that it has come to this. There is a lack of support for family members.
A very nice place to be situated the standard of care is very good. The nursing staff are very helpful and always ready to offer advice on any question you have to ask. The rooms are very spacious and beds are comfortable. Being hospital beds they make it easier for you to get up. All in all a very comfortable care/retirement home to be in.
