View Full Details of Speirs HouseMom has been at Speirs House since July 2024 and the service has been outstanding. The staff, the care, the service has been outstanding. I particularly enjoy the warmth and sincerity of care from all staff.
The staff at Speirs House have been looking after my mother-in-law very well and she is happy as a resident in the home. Everyone is very welcoming when we were to visit and the space is clean and well maintained. The recent Christmas party was a real joy to attend and the food and entertainment was top notch. Thank you to everyone from the management to the staff.
I did a lot of research before deciding where I wanted my mother to live following a very debilitating stroke. I chose Speirs House because it was small (only 36 beds), the bedrooms are around a beautiful central garden, the menu to looked interesting and as I walked into the lovely light dining room some of the carers were singing to the residents. The atmosphere was friendly, happy and nothing like any of the other local nursing homes that I visited. Mum has progressed amazingly since being at Speirs. The attention she has received from all the staff (the management, nurses, activity coordinators, maintenance, kitchen, laundry and cleaning staff) is undoubtedly one of the reasons she has been so motivated and has improved so much.
Speirs House is well led and has a first-class team of carers, nurses, caterers, housekeepers and volunteers. My partner has now been a resident in Speirs House for two years and I am very pleased with the quality of her care. There are two activities every weekday to keep the residents stimulated and entertained. We all enjoyed an excellent Christmas party before Christmas and an excellent lunch on Christmas Day. The staff always make a big effort on these occasions. I would strongly recommend this Care Home.
I have a friend who has been a resident at Speirs House since May 2023. I have visited the Care Home many times, most recently for their Christmas Party on December 13th. This was a lovely occasion. The staff worked very hard: the residents were all looked after with care and compassion (as they always are, in my experience). The catering was excellent and the decorations were beautifully done.
My husband is being very well cared for at Speirs House and we are all happy and confident that the home does their very best for him. He doesn't join in any of the activities but he is content in his room. His room is very comfortable and his clothes are always clean. The carers and nurses are all wonderful and as he doesn't have dementia he can interact with them which is good for his mood and personality.
As a family, we are extremely happy with the care and support of our mother. The care is outstanding. Mum loves the homemade food and loves attending the activities that are planned. The staff are very welcoming and happy to chat whenever we need to. The advice is great and seriously can't fault them at all. The home is very accommodating with family and friends visiting. The Nursing staff keeps Mum's diabetes under control and loves a good chat and laugh with Mum and us. Since day one we have felt at home, and won't want to be anywhere else but Speirs House.
Our mother moved in this summer and can say we were very concerned about the move. We can honestly we didn't need to be concerned. Our mother was made so welcome and mum settled in quickly. The staff are always so friendly, and chatty and nothing seems to phase them. We are so pleased we chose Spiers House. It would be good to have more external activities but understand cost is the main factor.
Speirs House has the most outstanding team of carers, nurses, caterers, housekeepers, managers and volunteers. Each and every one of them puts heart and soul into their caring responsibilities and understands every resident's wants or needs. The support I have received, whilst supporting my mother through Alzheimer's, has been invaluable. I simply cannot imagine a better place for Mum. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart to you all.
On arrival was greeted by the admin team and manager who were both very professional and friendly. Once taken to my relative I was given a very brief description of what had been going on as I had worked away for a while. After a while, I watched my relative play and take part in activities which all took part. The care home is nicely decorated and very clean.
Speirs House kindly agreed to let us use the cinema room for a 92 and 1/2 birthday party. She had missed her 90th birthday due to the fear of people catching Covid and her 92nd birthday due to the stroke. 6 months later she started the stages of learning to walk again so she wanted to have a party to celebrate being alive and to thank all the various people who had helped her in her recovery. The cinema room was ideal for our 30 people party of friends, family and carers. The party really started when she walked into the room aided by her physio and rollator. It was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion. Thank you Speirs House for making the party possible.
Speirs is a caring environment and I have confidence that my father is being well looked after. A GP calls every Wednesday so any health concerns can be addressed quickly. My father enjoys the food and eats well. I would recommend this care home.
I spent 2 weeks at this Care Home after an operation. I found the surroundings pleasant, the staff caring, the laundry service efficient, and the food good. The library could have been better but I suspect few of the long-term residents read much.
This place is a real gem. Other care homes simply don't compare to the peace, respect and dignity you can expect at Speirs House. From the cleaning staff to the home manager, everyone is friendly and dedicated. It's by far the most considerate care home I've had the experience of, even the layout of the building was clearly designed with residents fully in mind; the windows all look out over gardens and plants and there is a lovely big internal courtyard where residents can safely enjoy the outdoors even if they have had to have a deprivation of liberty order due to dementia. I am so grateful to have found this home for my mum, it made a very difficult decision seem much simpler.
My mum has been at Spiers now for two years. She is so well looked after, and the staff are wonderful. She has never had a bad word to say about Spiers House. I never wanted my mum to be in a care home, but I know she is so well looked after and genuinely cared for.
Speirs House is a wonderful nursing home. The staff are extremely caring and it has a very homely atmosphere. The residents are looked after very well and offered daily activities to keep their bodies and minds stimulated. I am so pleased my dad is now living at Speirs House. He was not coping at home but now I know he is looked after night and day. I visited 6 or 7 care homes in the area but this was my favourite by far, and it has not disappointed me. It offers complete peace of mind for relatives.
We could not be more pleased with the care and help that Dad receives at this wonderful care home. Since Dad arrived in July of 2022, he has been made to feel welcome and cared for. The staff are all very welcoming and supportive and have a lovely, friendly, yet professional approach to their work. The manager and family liaison person have both gone out of their way to be very helpful and supportive to us all. Their help and advice were greatly appreciated following Dad’s move from Wales and made a difficult time much easier. I would have no hesitation in recommending Speirs House.
The most exceptional part of Speirs House is the staff. Their attention and care for the residents are overwhelming. A wonderful environment created by management and carers alike. We are at peace knowing our aunt is well looked after and is in a safe location.
Today is the Christmas party at Speirs House. The whole home is beautifully decorated, and staff have really got into the Christmas spirit by dressing up as elves and angels and wearing Christmas hats. All staff are so welcoming. Great welcome speech from the manager and resident. The Santa's Grotto is amazing. So looking forward to the celebrations.
I have now been a resident in Speirs House for seven years and have been very happy here. My main, in fact only, major criticism is that Speirs House is not a suitable home for dementia patients as they cannot be separated. I have had some very unpleasant experiences due to this and this is why I have marked safety/security as poor. I am sorry there is a not a box for very good as many of my goods would have come into that category. I consider excellent to mean almost perfect.
