View Full Details of Vi & John Rubens HouseMy mother became a resident in March 2023. The care provided is excellent. They go above and beyond to ensure my mother is comfortable and settled. As visitors, we are always made welcome, no matter what time, day or night, we visit. The residents are always happy and well cared for. All the staff are very caring. They always treat all residents with dignity and kindness.
My mother has been a resident in the home for four and a half years. I have been extremely happy with the care given to her both by the nursing staff and most of the carers. Her health needs have been tended to immediately and I could not have wished for better attention.
The comfort my family and I feel knowing my dad is looked after by the excellent staff and volunteers at the Vi & John Rubens House Care Home is immense. The care shown to him and us is terrific. The moment I walk in to the moment I leave, everyone is welcoming and friendly. The staff, in my eyes, are absolute heroes and deserve to be recognised. My dad is treated like a member of their family and that is priceless. Even though being in a care home is the last place I wanted my dad to be, I am so thankful that it is at the Vi & Johns. The entire team are all superstars.
Any residential care home can only be as good as the staff who work in it. In the case of Vi & John Rubens House the staff are second to none. They always greet me with warmth and a smile and that gives me a great deal of comfort and satisfaction as to how they must be with my mother. In fact, whenever I visit you can be sure that there is more often than not one member of staff giving my mum a reassuring cuddle or having a talk with her. Invariably, when my mum may be a little incommunicative a staff member will come over and joke with my mum thereby bringing a smile to her face and allowing her to display the humour she has retained over the years. A few weeks ago my mum celebrated her 100th birthday. She had two special parties. One on her actual birthday for some guests, close family and all the residents. The other, a private one for family and friends, a few days later. On both occasions, the home went out of its way to provide suitable catering. Exceptional care!
I have visited Vi and John Rubens House over the last thirty plus years in various capacities. As a daughter, daughter-in-law, friend and now as a wife. The care was always good but now it is outstanding. From the head of the home through to the cleaning staff, everyone is friendly and welcoming. My husband has lost a lot of who he was but with the care and attention that he gets, including activities to match his abilities, we can still see parts of him that are left. I could not look after him any better. The building has a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere in all the units.
My mother has only been in The Shalva wing of Vi & John Ruben's House since the end of November. It was very difficult for my sister and I to come to terms with the fact that our mother needed to be admitted to a residential care home, but I have to say that two months on we know that we made the correct decision and that she is in very safe hands. I have not met a member of the entire staff that has not been kind, caring and helpful, all of the qualities that a care worker should have, but as we sadly know all too well, not all do. The hygiene is to a high standard and the food appears to be very good (especially the traditional Friday Night Dinner). I also love that the lighting of Shabbat candles and Kiddish is performed even though the majority of the residents of Shalva wing probably don't appreciate it. I thank the manager and her entire team, which of course includes the volunteers that help to create the warm and welcoming environment whether one is a resident or a visitor.
My sister is very happy at Vi & John Rubens House, which makes us happy. She has been there for two months and tells us the food is excellent. All carers, the staff and managers are always smiling and very helpful, very friendly and caring. We visit frequently and everyone always seems pleased to see us. We are always informed about her health.
Very friendly atmosphere across the whole home. Friendly, caring staff. If I have any enquiries/questions, a quick response is received, but only since under the new manager. The food is beyond excellent. In general, the staff are excellent on Tehila unit and caring and always keep you up to date, without my asking. It would be lovely if the home returned to taking residents out in the care bus, my brother really enjoyed that. Also, the staff including cleaners, maintenance and kitchen are all friendly.
My mother has been at Vi & John Rubens House for over two years. She is 99 and very frail, but the staff treat her gently and kindly. During the various lockdowns and loss of staff, Vi & John Rubens House made every effort to carry on with their duties and fill in for the volunteers they lost and the entertainers that could not visit. A special pod was built so that family could at least talk to and see their relatives, albeit through glass and it was possible to arrange regular video calls to fill in-between visits. Sometimes the maintenance is not as speedy as it could be, but I do not blame the staff, I lay the responsibility firmly at the door of the directors who obviously want to spend as little as possible due to the fact that Vi & John Rubens House is due to shut down in the next couple of years. The staff work very hard and sometimes in difficult circumstances. I have only one regret - my mother was an avid crossword doer and now is 95% blind. A volunteer that did the crossword with her daily has now left.
My mum has been a resident at the home for five years and their care is amazing. My mum is treated with love and respect and she is very happy there. I have peace of mind that she is being well looked after and kept safe. The building is old but it is kept spotlessly clean and has a very homely atmosphere. Is it perfect? No, their communication is not great, but their care is wonderful. They have a new manager and I have every confidence in her that this will improve.
My mother has been at Vi & John Rubens House for about four years. The last two years in the Sugar Wing Nursing section. All the staff are very committed and hard-working and look after the residents very well. The food is of a high standard and the entertainment is very good. Obviously, everyone's job has become a lot harder during the covid pandemic. I am very thankful for all the care given to my mum. Best wishes.
My mum has been a resident at Vi & John Rubens House for three years, during which time her dementia has progressed and she is no longer mobile. The standard of care Mum receives is second to none. All of the staff seem totally dedicated to their work. The domestic team, admin staff, carers, team leaders and managers are consistently kind and gentle, going over and above to make residents comfortable and keep them safe and healthy. The home, though old, is spotlessly clean. Mum seems to enjoy the food, and there is always an alternative if a resident does not fancy what is on the menu. Laundry can be slightly hit and miss, but clothes do turn up again eventually! External entertainers come in sporadically, but they are excellent and much enjoyed by the residents. On a daily basis, there is a team member who tries to engage each resident. All the religious festivals are celebrated. I feel very comfortable when I visit and the staff are always so obliging with any requests I have ever made.
A wonderful care home where my dad is very happy. Excellent staff. The care and attention from staff is excellent. Lovely atmosphere. Staff are always happy to chat with my dad and look after him to the highest standards.
The care home has provided a secure and warm environment for my mum despite a period of recent challenges. Covid has reared its head again and the home had to be closed to visitors inside the home but they were able to offer garden and pod visits. This demonstrates that the safety and the health of all residents is paramount. The home recently saw a change of manager and things have improved as a result.
Mum has been a resident since the start of 2022. The home is well-run by a caring and dedicated manager. The facilities are excellent and the care staff and admin staff are professional, caring and dedicated. Mum is benefitting from being at Vi & John Rubens. The activities provided are varied and Mum has been able to take a role in the art and story-telling sessions. I am satisfied that under the current manager and her team, Mum is in good hands.
Awful home, would not recommend to anyone. My father passed away, the evening beforehand he pressed the emergency buzzer as he was not well and found out later that it had been out of order for 2 weeks beforehand! Maintenance people had been in but could not fix the buzzer and no one had chased them up to fix it. The manager then resigned as knew he had done wrong. Other staff also knew and no one had bothered to do anything about it. When my father was in there communication was always awful we were always calling/emailing chasing up. Badly let down by Jewish Care. Only gave 1 star as can’t give no stars!
My daughter put me into Vi & John Rubens House for respite for four weeks. As I had just had a knee operation and she was going away. The care and fuss made of me was second to none. My husband spent the last year of his life at Vi & John Rubens House so my daughter knew I would be looked after. I would like to thank all the staff from the cleaners, office, kitchen, carers. A fantastic team.
My mother has been here for 4 years and during that time she has been very happy and mostly looked after well. There are quite a few things that my family haven't been happy with. For example, when I want to take Mum out there are no decent wheelchairs. In fact, she ripped her skin on a wheelchair and ended up in hospital. There are some very good carers, but some with no patience and snappy.
Very pleased with the treatment my wife is receiving. I feel that she is very well looked after.
My mother was a resident of Vi and John Rubins House for 9 years due to dementia. My family and I watched a slow decline of our mum but she was always treated with the utmost of respect and love. We as a family visited at least twice a week and was made to feel so welcome and we were always consulted when changes in mum's care were about to take place. Our children and grandchildren treated the home as their second home.
