View Full Details of St David's Nursing HomeThere is something rather special about St David's Nursing Home. From the moment you enter this unique world, you are surrounded by the amazing care and kindness shown by all the staff. Nothing it too much trouble. Every effort was made to provide a family environment for both my Dad and myself. I cannot thank them enough for the fantastic care given to my Dad.
My Mother has now been in St David's for a period of 7.5 years. St David's is owned and managed privately, and the owners have a very strong ethos of professionalism, care, and support. This is reflected in ensuring through the selection of staff that this ethos is reflected right across the community. Many staff have said that St David's has come to feel like their family; indeed, my wife and I now very much feel the same. Great efforts are undertaken to ensure the residents are entertained, and the owners go out of their way to hold community events for the family and friends of the residents. The building is old and not purpose-built, but well-developed plans are underway to mitigate this through the new building and extending it. My wife and I have now had three of our four parents in St David's and would happily recommend it to people's loved ones.
My mother has lived at St David's for more than two years. This interesting old building with its beautiful grounds provides a very comfortable and homely environment for the elderly residents. My mother most enjoys socialising with fellow residents and staff in the cheerful lounge and in the dining room at mealtimes. The atmosphere is very much that of a family with welcoming and caring staff.
St David's is probably the best care home in Berkshire. Set in fabulous grounds, run by a caring family team, and with the friendliest carers you could want. The accommodation is spotless, there are regular activities, and everything is run perfectly.
I have sat for hours with my wife mainly in her room almost every day in the twenty months she has been in St David's. The staff all know and greet me cheerily by name whenever they see me, and the hospitality offered to me has been a delight. I have also got to know, often by their first names, many residents and their visitors. I can and do say with complete conviction that the care and personal respect lavished on my wife in all that time has far, far exceeded anything I might have expected. The owners are regularly in St David's, keeping in friendly contact with visiting relatives and friends and organising and participating in frequent on-site festivities and celebrations. The carers and nurses know well all my wife's little foibles, and treat her with never-failing kindness. Nothing phases or is any trouble at all to them. My wife's room is kept spick and span, plants watered, dead flowers quietly removed, and electric blinds kept in perfect order. A better nursing home is not to be found.
The staff went over and above for my mother's 90th birthday. Sash, cake flowers and gift on the day and then huge preparations made for her family party. Nothing was too much trouble - even the clearing up afterwards which I felt bad about as small children had been invited! They had decorated the room beautifully- to such a high standard and every requirement big or small was catered for. Chef made a beautiful cake for the occasion. Everyone was involved!
My mother has been at St David's since 2020 and throughout that time the care provided has been exemplary. She has flourished in the home with the attentive care, stimulating activities and loving environment. As her son, the home been a great source of confidence as I know that she is being so well cared for. It has completely changed my perception of care homes from somewhere to be endured to somewhere that is enjoyed and a source of happiness.
My father has been a resident at St David's Nursing Home for a year now! Our whole family have been so impressed with the care he has received. It's a privately owned care home and the owners are visible and have a very active role in managing the home! Their staff retention is amazing and many of the carers are long-standing members of the team which speaks volumes! The residents really matter! They are treated beautifully and everyone smiles and says hello to residents and family members, whether it's a member of the maintenance team or cleaning crew! Special attention is made to provide favourite meals, fun and engaging activities, outings, family events and they have lots of people come in to provide entertainment! The building and grounds are immaculately maintained. Everyone is so accommodating and the care is second to none! It's a very special place!
Excellent in every aspect. My mother has been in the home for two years and has been treated with dignity and respect at all times. I have never had reason to complain as the home is immaculate and the staff just amazing.
My sister-in-law is so well looked after at St David's. There are always plenty of members of staff and they are always very attentive to the needs of the residents. They are also very welcoming when I visit. I have never had reason to complain and I know that my sister-in-law is very happy which of course is very important.
St David's is a highly professional residential home, we have had many years of experience with the care and attention given by the staff to the residents. The nursing is exceptional and attention to detail is first-class. Every aspect from the food/menu to the rooms and cleaning/maintenance is monitored and maintained to a high standard.
The attention to residents is always so careful, kind, and constant. We are so fortunate to have this care home in our area. All of the staff have not only complete knowledge about their residents but also about their friends and relations. My review of this care home is an absolutely honest one.
This was my aunt's care home of choice, having had a personal connection to the Priory dating back to childhood. The staff are wonderful and have given her the most loving and professional care during her many periods of respite here. She came to the home most recently in July for more long-term care and all of her friends say how happy she is. I can also see that she has settled with good friendships being made and good memories.
My mum has been in St Davids since July 2020. During that time the team have provided brilliant care to my mum. Mum has severe dementia, and she can be very challenging, but this never phases the care team. Mum has interacted with the team during a time when she finds this difficult to do. This is because of the professional way in which the staff know how to care for someone who is so ill and has great problems in articulating her needs. Our family have been so grateful for the support provided and we would recommend St Davids to any person in need of care or indeed any family who needs to be certain that their loved one is looked after as they would want them to be.
Our mother has been a resident at St David's for the last two years. There is a lovely family feel, which permits throughout the home, and the warmth and care from the 'caring angels' are exceptional. We feel we can liaise with staff and management both on visits and by phone at any time, which is very reassuring. Set in the most beautiful grounds, these are utilised very well with all the lovely activities arranged for the residents to enjoy. Grandchildren and family members are always welcome to attend, which has been lovely for Mum. We can highly recommend this beautiful home.
I attended the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee party at St David's in June. When we arrived, I was astounded at the effort that everyone had put in to create a street party scene. All the tables were full of food and drink, and everyone was having a great time. Mum was settled and was being well looked after. Mum's birthday was also in June. We visited on the day, and as soon as we arrived, tea and homemade cake were served. We helped to blow the candles out! The staff always go the extra mile to make people feel special, whether it be a birthday or just organising daily activities. Mum has been a resident for over five years, and we are so pleased we chose St David's.
The last thing my father wanted to do was to go into a care home, but when his Alzheimers advanced so much that I could no longer keep him safe, that decision was made for me. Getting him into St David's, a truly unique home, was the light at the end of the tunnel. He has now been a resident for approaching three years, and I cannot praise and commend the home highly enough. From the professional and clear leadership, the kindness, patience and compassion shown by all his lovely carers to the tasty, plentiful and appealing meals - he lives like a king. Dad is not the easiest resident, gorgeous and in a good mood, but quite grumpy from time to time, and the girls love him whatever and are amazingly adept at improving his mood without him noticing! Recently their thoughtfulness meant he visited a light aircraft airport (he worked for the airline company for 40 years), and went on a boat trip on the Thames (he lived close to the river for 60 years), and I know he enjoyed the trips enormously. Thank you all so much.
I am so grateful to have found St David's; initially 5 years ago for my lovely mum, who simply loved the staff, and they loved her. I had no hesitation in requesting a place for Dad when he needed it too. The peaceful setting, cleanliness, carefully prepared tasty food, care, patience and diligence, the variety of activities that are really planned with our relative's interests and well-being in mind - in every aspect, St David's wins. I can relax knowing that Dad is surrounded by people who truly care and do an amazing job in an extremely well-run establishment.
From the moment my brother and I identified St David's as a potential home for Mum, we were met with understanding, care and compassion, even before entering the building. Our lovely Mum has advanced dementia and is now on end-of-life care. It is hard to believe that there is anywhere in existence that would provide Mum with care beyond that, that she is receiving. Mum's dementia has caused her personality to change beyond recognition from the loving person she was, yet the staff at St David's care for her, talk to her and treat her with dignity, and more often than not, leave her room with a kiss. The small touches matter. The staff are exceptional in caring for the residents, meeting their individual needs and creating a home-from-home atmosphere which is so very important. The food is exceptional... nothing is too much trouble. In such difficult circumstances for our family, it continues to be a privilege to be on the receiving end of such professional care.
My mother is extremely well cared for, and I could not wish for a better home. The staff are very professional, compassionate, kind and caring. The management and all the staff are always willing to go the extra distance to ensure Mum's comfort, and there is a regular program of well-thought-through activities for her to join in with. When visiting we are always made more than welcome and are met with a very homely atmosphere. This is an outstanding care home in lovely, spacious grounds, and we would be very happy to recommend it to others.
