View Full Details of Barchester West Oak Care HomeMy late husband was in West Oak for only a week after discharge from the hospital. He was extremely ill and also had Parkinson's and advanced dementia. The management, nurses and carers were both empathetic and caring and looked after him on a continual basis they also made me and the family most welcome at all times. My husband passed away with dignity in his own room and that gave the family comfort in a very difficult situation.
My brother was kindly accepted by this nursing home whereas others had refused to take him in because of his challenging behaviour with late stages of Parkinson's/dementia. He was only in there for a week before he passed away but it was comforting that he spent his final week in such loving care with wonderful people who couldn't have done more to help him. They looked after the family and accepted us all with open arms. I would thoroughly recommend.
The senior general manager and administrator were amazing and completed onboarding for Mum so quickly and efficiently. Mum moved from another home and has settled in so well to Barchester West Oak Care Home. The staff are so caring and know all of the residents well. Mum does sleep a lot but the team actively try and get her interested in what is happening with activities. I love the culture of the home, I think this is what really made our decision, it really does feel like a home. There are always lots of refreshments for the residents and last weekend, when I visited, the person on duty made up a tray with a cloth, tea cups and saucers and two lovely slices of cake for Mum and I to sit and enjoy some personal space in the conservatory end of the ground floor, the visit was made to feel very special. I love the fact that Mum has to interact, she is out of her room with other people all day and so, is never alone. She had nineteen falls within five months at the old home, she has been at West Oak a month now and no falls.
Barchester West Oak Care Home is an outstanding place for an elderly relative. It is a nursing home with nurses available 24 hours. My mother was a resident there and all the team were so caring to Mum and all the family who visited. There are lots of activities arranged, great food and I would definitely recommend.
Mum was admitted to Barchester West Oak Care Home on 18th May 2024. After being very restricted on what she could do at home living with my dad and being bedbound, my mum's quality of life has completely turned around. From the manager to the nurses, care staff, housekeeping, head chef and activities, my mum is now receiving amazing care and support, coming along and joining in with the amazing activities the activity staff offer. My dad now is able to visit Mum daily with the support of his family and have the quality time with his wife and enjoy some meals.
Barchester West Oak Care Home is an excellent care home. Staff are amazing and very caring. Activities are brilliant, residents love the varied activities, from flower arranging to karaoke. Food is good and nutritional. Mum has settled in and is happy and very well looked after. Couldn't wish for more.
Barchester West Oak Care Home is a fantastic care home! Dad had Parkinson's and dementia. The moment Mum and I walked into West Oak, we felt at home and were asked to join an activity that was happening in the coffee lounge by one of the fabulous entertainment staff. Dad passed away in June 2024 and we can honestly say that his year and a half at West Oak was the absolute best it could have been! Dad's bedroom was lovely, with a large window overlooking the garden and his own bathroom. Dad loved the food which changed daily, great starters, mains and of course, the puddings with custard. The nursing staff were fantastic, always on hand to ask questions of and completely professional, warm and understanding. And the carers... wow... amazing, hardworking, friendly, I really cannot praise them enough... they knew Dad and his foibles and they also looked after me and Mum too. West Oak is a family... and we were all privileged to be welcomed into that family with open arms!
Very pleased Dad is at Barchester West Oak Care Home. He is well looked after and enjoys the food. He is warm and kept clean. The activities are a little repetitive but the musical ones are very good and go down very well. A lot of activities take place downstairs and not everyone wants to go. It would be nice if some of them could be done upstairs.
We have nothing but praise for the staff at West Oaks. Their kindness and support during the difficult transition period moving Mum into the home was most appreciated. They have all been extremely warm and friendly helping both Mum and us to settle into this new way of life. A big thank you to them all.
Mum has had the most wonderful care since coming to West Oak A lovely room, great choice of food, and activities for everyone but most of all, the manager, nursing staff and the rest of the team. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone is very professional and kind. We were worried when Mum was sent here from hospital but would recommend this home to anyone. Thank you all!
My mum was in there for about a month and I have been over the moon with just about everything. Well, sadly my mum died yesterday evening at 9.20 and I just wanted to say the staff were as usual wonderful, helpful, understanding, caring and held my hand and hugged me as well just when I needed it. The nurse took care of loads and sorted a pastor as my mum wanted to be blessed before being taken away. The home is great and in the month I used it as my own, made drinks and snacks whenever I wanted and especially as lived 2 hours away from Mum. I have today had follow up calls expressing their sadness and support and there if I need to chat and especially from the home manager as wonderful lady and special thanks to the care/nurse. My mum and I owe them a lot and just wanted to say well done and thanks so very much.
I visited my auntie who is a resident of West Oak Care Home and found the staff very friendly and helpful. They take good care of my aunt and she is very happy and comfortable at the home. She told me about the many activities that she was able to take part in and also how much she enjoyed the variety and quality of food available. This clearly shows that the home is well managed and run, so please carry on the excellent work for all those people who need their support.
Having visited five other care homes in the area I can say that I am pleased to have chosen West Oak Care Home. As soon as I was shown around I felt very much at home with the friendly staff. I knew straight away that my husband would be well looked after and safe. The nursing staff keep me informed and all care staff are great.
Some documentation is not written up properly in her file in the bedroom i.e. having a shower when she has not. The food and the drinks are only ever served lukewarm. Her safety and security are a problem, of a wandering resident who comes into Mum's room day and night which really upsets her but it is never documented in her file in the bedroom.
I'd like to say a big thank you to all the staff for looking after my aunt so lovingly. I was really worried how she would settle but when I visit she is happy and taking part in activities! It's a big weight off my shoulders to not be so worried about her. Thanks again.
In August 2022 I supported a family to look for a suitable home for both parents. West Oak far exceeded all other establishments we visited. The atmosphere is clean, warm and friendly. The facilities are outstanding. In September my clients moved in and were given a very warm welcome by all members of staff. Their move came at the right time, the nursing care and dignity given by the nursing team to one of the couple was brilliant. West Oak made all family members welcome especially the hostess who made sure we were catered for. The activities coordinators are absolutely fantastic. They provide a variety of activities and entertainment, personalised to individual capabilities. Would definitely recommend.
My father was welcomed to West Oak following a spell in hospital with a fractured pelvis. During his first day he was included in a game of indoor bowls which immediately had a positive impact on him. I was truly humbled by the care and attention provided by the carers. They went out of their way to give a positive experience to each resident. Also they managed time to address all of my queries and concerns of myself. As for the nursing staff, they were truly wonderful. They showed great care and compassion in treating my father's needs. Their approach to compiling the care plan was extremely diligent. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. At all times my father was treated with the utmost dignity. Also a special thanks to the back office staff who were at all times prompt, efficient and compassionate. If ever needed to be admitted to a care/nursing home, this would be the only name on my list. I can't thank you enough.
I visited West Oak care home a few days back to meet one of my family members, I was impressed with their service. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They do look after their residents and show concerns about their wellness and health. The management team are very professional and open to taking suggestions from resident's family for better personal care. Staff is paying attention and care to each resident to their best. The atmosphere was very relaxed and calm. I Would definitely recommend this care home to anyone who is looking for their family members' care.
My husband spent a fortnight at West Oak Home, Wokingham, to allow me respite. I had cared for him at home for a decade. His declining health had become heavy for me and I felt I would not be able to continue to care for him at home as I wished to do without some respite, but I was reluctant to let him go. I was relieved and delighted to find he settled well at West Oak. The attention he received was friendly, alert, constant and sympathetic. The nursing care was excellent. I am grateful to West Oak for a successful stay for my husband and for myself.
My mum moved into West Oak five weeks ago. I have been blown away bu the care she has received. Without exception, everyone is friendly, kind and professional. They get to know residents as individuals, making their care bespoke to personal needs and preferences. I can honestly say nothing is too much trouble - they not only look after residents so well; they also care for their families. It's such a massive transition leaving home for everyone involved when the care is spot on; it's such a relief and support. Thank you.
