My Mum was transferred to Hamilton House in March 2024 after a stay in hospital. We were told that she was at the end stages of her life, the expectation being no longer than a few weeks. We were so grateful that she got a place in Hamilton House, in her home town. This meant that visiting was easier and friends were able to pop in. Mum was fortunate to surpass the expectations of a few weeks and I believe this is down to the care she received. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff very quickly got to know Mum's likes (and dislikes) when she became less able to make her wishes known they were able to anticipate her needs resulting in a loving continuity of her care. The personal touch from the staff was one thing I appreciated most. Mum loved seeing people and staff knew this and would always pop into her room when passing, the smiles she gave made me realise that she truly did feel cared for. After she passed away, staff continued to support us as a family. We're forever grateful.
What can I say about Hamilton House Care Home, our back story is my mother was sent here after 22 weeks in the hospital with 2 weeks to live, bad sore holes in her back, lost weight and could not talk on arrival. But this home and every member of staff from manager, carers right down to housekeeping did not give up on her for 1 minute. Their love and care constant throughout. I got to spend another year and a half with her, laughing, healing and being loved. I feel blessed that she was sent here. Sadly I lost her but I know she was so happy and loved by staff. Thank you for saving her and giving me more time love her more
My father moved to Hamilton House in July 2023 with dementia. It is always difficult finding the right home for a loved one but I would highly recommend Hamilton House. The staff were amazing and always went out of their way to be kind and have a chat. They showed kindness towards my mum who was a frequent visitor. For their Golden Wedding Anniversary they arranged flowers for Mum to give to Dad and bought Dad a tie to wear. They really go above and beyond! They also showed great care and patience towards my dad and I felt he was looked after well. The nurse was excellent. She was experienced and always kept me updated. They always had the best interests of Dad in mind. My dad's last days were handled with expertise, sensitivity and kindness.
Hi although mum seems okay, we have had a tv that I paid for and two phone chargers stolen from her room and no contact has been made from the manager! No one is accountable! Poor contact! Didn’t even tell her daughters that she was going to the hospital! Not sure what the world is coming to! Stealing off a vulnerable resident!
We could not have wished for a more peaceful place for Mum to spend her last days. Staff are so kind and caring, going out of their way for Mum and her family. Thank you to all for the compassion showed at the most difficult time. We listened to the birds outside her spacious room and Mum was kept so comfortable by a lovely team of people. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you all at Hamilton House.
Hamilton House Care Home is by far the best care home that my grandmother has stayed in. Super friendly staff with great attention to residents, the manager is very welcoming and hands on with all residents. Thank you to everyone at Hamilton House Care Home!
The staff at Hamilton House Care Home are really friendly, attentive and caring! The manager is extremely approachable and welcoming, with great knowledge of my grandad's condition. The nurses are really well-trained and excellent at their job! I would highly recommend this care home for all.
My grandma has been a different person since living at Hamilton House Care Home. She has a busier social life than me! She’s even started knitting again which just melts me. The care staff are just amazing, they genuinely care about everyone and are so friendly and welcoming. The nurses really know their stuff and are quick to attend to any medical worries we have and the manager is always seen around the home and really listens to Grandma and us. We are so happy to have found this little gem of a care home.
Very happy with the home and staff. Mum and settled well.
The Manager and Carers at Hamilton House Care Home are friendly and cheerful, which makes a nice atmosphere. If there are any complaints or problems they are usually dealt with willingly and quickly. When I visit I am made to feel welcome by the staff, which makes visiting more of a pleasure.
On the whole, I find Hamilton House Care Home a satisfactory home. However, there are a few small issues i.e. the food is not very good, my husband has trouble cutting food and is not always helped with this. I am usually there at lunchtime so I help him with eating. Overall, I find the staff excellent and very caring. They treat the residents with dignity and patience.
Hamilton House's strength lies with their team of wonderful nursing and care staff, many of whom go the extra mile to improve the lives of the residents. Additionally, the current manager's ability and willingness to listen, learn and improve when issues arise have helped to build trust. There have been a few occasions during the early part of this year where I had to work with management and nursing staff to resolve issues both with medication (largely due to communication breakdowns between the local GP practice and the care home) and (typical agency) staff not taking the critical time to understand my Mum's needs properly. Thanks to the diligence and persistent efforts from the nursing staff to improve communication with the local GP practice as well as significant effort from the current manager and her team to recruit and engage with permanent staff and reduce reliance on agency staff, these issues reduced significantly in the last 4 - 5 months.
My mum received palliative care here for 3 weeks, she was moved 3 times to different rooms. In her 2nd room the heating didn't work, the window didn't close, her toilet blocked and her call alarm on her frame didn't work, the batteries were dead. I found her cold and distressed when I went in, it was upsetting for her and me. Some staff were good at their jobs but there just wasn't the care I expected her to receive being terminally ill. I had to complain about the way she was neglected. When she was moved for the final time she was comfortable and had more care but it should have been this way from day 1. Not what you expect when you entrust your loved one to a care home.
My father was only with Hamilton House Care Home for 2 short weeks but the respect and kindness shown to him in that period made a very difficult decision much easier. All of the staff could not have been kinder both to my father but also to us as a family and I know that made such a difference to him. My parents have been married for 66 years and to be able to spend time with him made such a difference to my mum so thank you from the whole family.
Just a fantastic bunch of workers all kind caring can't do enough for my mum, wish we had got her in the home earlier. All the girls are great always smiling polite the few guys in there are great too.
Entrusting the end of life care of someone you love to a nursing home is a difficult journey for anyone but without the love and support of the staff at Hamilton House I don’t know how my sister and I would have coped. During the most difficult of circumstances, we were literally held up by their kindness at times. So many of the staff really took time to get to know my dad and that made a real difference to the last months of his life. The nursing home management dealt with our situation with great compassion and sensitivity and we can’t thank them enough.
My Mother lived in Hamilton House for five years. For most of the time, she was active and loved all the sociable and interesting activities, and made friendships amongst her fellow Residents and the staff. In particular, she valued the regular exercise classes, film shows and music as well as the Sunday Acts of Worship led by visiting Church volunteers. She appreciated the welcome that was given to her visitors and, as a relative, I felt equally well looked after by the staff, always greeted by name. This same sensitive and cheerful care for us both continued latterly, as she became largely bedridden and her care needs changed. Hamilton House is not the smartest building but it was always clean and nicely decorated and valued by Residents for being homely. The food is generous and always looks and smells appetizing. My Mother was very well served for the last years of her life.
My mum has the best care at Hamilton House. Me and my sister feel relieved that she is cared for and looked after. The staff are wonderful and Mum is happy which is so important to us. The rooms are clean and the care given to residents is excellent. It’s the little things the carers do to help Mum which make her stay comfortable. The manager has been very helpful.
Mum has been a resident here for over a year now, and I can't fault the care and service she has always received. The whole team really care about her and will go out of their way to ensure her needs are met. They are like family now, and all work so hard to look after Mum and also, ensure we are kept informed. The facilities are excellent, Mum always enjoys the meals, and they ensure her nutritional needs are met. Regular activities are organised, from watching films in the cinema room, crafting, cooking, magicians, visits from a variety of pets, sing-alongs and outings such as the panto at Christmas. During these especially difficult Covid times, this is the best place she could have been. I am so grateful that we found Hamilton House as a permanent home for Mum after Dad passed away in January 2020. They are simply brilliant.
