View Full Details of Abbey House Nursing HomeI would like to thank and congratulate the Manager and her team at Abbey House Nursing Home for looking after My Father so well after having a serious stroke in June 2020, during COVID at the age of 95. The hospital was also amazing and once he was on the mend, placed him in Abbey House Nursing Home. My father has now been at Abbey House for 4.5 years and has just celebrated his 100th birthday (Friday 24th January), what an achievement. He would not have survived to 100th without the love, care, encouragement and support which has enabled him to use his muscles, so as to have functional independence to live and enjoy life at his new home at Abbey House. Their gardens are particularly lovely in the summer so as to be able to sit out in the sunshine. We celebrated my father's birthday on Friday 24th January in a private room at Abbey House and the team were once again amazing. I would highly recommend Abbey House Nursing Home for your loved ones.
My wife had been cared for at Abbey House Nursing Home for approx 3 years up to her passing. Myself and my family have been very pleased with the care and love shown to her, as well as the welcome and compassion given to our family. We would certainly recommend Abbey House for a placement.
My mum has lived at Abbey House since May 2023 and when it became necessary for my dad to need care later that year, he was adamant that the only place he would agree to go to, was Abbey House. This was firstly of course, to be with mum, but also because he was aware how kind, friendly and caring the staff are. Everything possible was done to accommodate them both together in a pleasant double room, and Dad soon became settled and content. He appreciates the excellent care, the delicious food, and the way his likes and dislikes are noted and acted on. Management, administration, nurses, and carers, along with kitchen, beverages, laundry, cleaning and maintenance staff, all work with dedication, to make life for residents as comfortable and homely as possible. As a twice-weekly visitor, it is notable how welcome I am always received, and made to feel part of the big family, also that I am immediately informed of any medical issues affecting either parent. Absolutely first class throughout.
My mother moved in in June as it became apparent that she was no longer safe to remain living semi-independently, she has a beautiful airy room, and activities are available, however, she is not a social creature and prefers to remain in her room or sit in the garden, when the weather permits, she says the food is very good and plenty of it, care is excellent, everybody is very friendly, tea/coffee available to visitors as well as homemade cakes.
My Mum has been living at Abbey House for over a year now. She is very happy and so well cared for. All the staff from Nurses to Admin, to Carers, Maintenance, chefs and tea makers are all utterly delightful and my Mum loves them all! It is clear all the staff go to great lengths to make each resident feel safe, happy, and nurtured. I couldn't ask for anything better for my precious Mum. It is clean, homely, well-staffed, bright, and welcoming with delicious home-cooked food. On my Mum's birthday last week, all the staff made a huge fuss of her all day by singing to her, giving her cards and gifts and the fabulous chef even made a fabulous 4-tier cake for her, me, and all the staff and residents to enjoy. It's the personal touches that make Abbey House so special.
My mother has been a resident at Abbey House since January 2024. I cannot fault the care she has received since her arrival. Staff are caring and attentive, treating my mother with respect and dignity. They have ensured she is included in as many activities as possible. There is a lovely friendly atmosphere at the home and a positive attitude. I would definitely recommend the home.
Since Mum moved in in January she has received excellent care. There are plenty of activities going on (even if she can't remember doing them!) The staff are friendly and helpful and it is such a relief to know she is in a safe environment and being so well looked after.
My mum has been living at Abbey House since October 2023. I have to say the nursing home is brilliant! The staff really care about the residents and make a personal bond with (in my case) my mum. Mum is always commenting about the 'blue top' staff (the caregivers) as being excellent. I'm very happy with my mum being in Abbey House.
My first impression was a fresh smell of flowers and brightness. My sister's room has all her family photos on the window sill and bedside table which looks very homely, they take time in the morning to put her lipstick on and paint her nails. During the day they have exercise like catching balls and other things like knitting and artwork. The food is first class. I can't praise everyone there enough.
Can't thank Abbey House enough for all their help and care. All staff are excellent.
My partner was moved from a hospice to Abbey House for 'care in dying'. Abbey House provided care with a capital C. Not only do they provide excellent care to the resident, but their care to family is second to none. Our family found all the staff very professional, helpful, understanding and sympathetic. We were comforted at every stage of a very harrowing experience. I cannot praise Abbey House highly enough.
We were extremely happy with the services and the professionalism of the staff.
Our mum is very happy in this nursing home, and the care she receives here is excellent.
My mum was a resident in the rehab unit of Abbey House Nursing Home for several weeks during which time she was looked after very well. All staff - office, carers and nurses - are friendly and attentive and made her feel welcome. Mum had a few health issues that cropped up during her time there and I felt happy that she was being well looked after and treated with dignity. Mum particularly liked the food so a big thank you to the chef too!
Staff at Abbey House are very welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Kitchen staff catered for my allergy to cow's milk where possible. Very pleasant garden to sit in, in nice weather.
From the moment I arrived at the rehab unit, the staff made me welcome. They quickly got to know my name and always spoke to me pleasantly. The home was well looked after by all the cleaning staff. The decor was pleasant. The handyman was very quick to respond to any problems. The food was excellent, I put on weight without trying. The carers worked extremely hard, some of the clients had dementia, all the staff spoke to every client with kindness and consideration. A very physical and demanding job. I admire anyone working in care.
Both Mum and Dad were residents at Abbey House for nearly a year each for end-of-life care. Dad moved into the home on 21st December 2021. At that time Mum was in a home in Portchester but we desperately wanted them to be together, the manager at Abbey House made it her mission to get them together and eventually a month later Mum moved in and on February 17th 2022 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together. I, my sister and brother and our families will be eternally grateful to the wonderful staff and management for allowing Mum and Dad to spend their final months together in a safe, comfortable and caring environment. Whilst the building and grounds are lovely it is the staff that are the biggest asset. We were always made to feel so welcome; we visited frequently which was never an issue. We felt like we were part of a bigger family. We had total confidence that they were safe and cared for with the utmost dignity. The staff, each and every one of them are amazing.
My dad went into the home in December 2023 and received care and attention from all members of staff. They were friendly, kind and helpful and not just to my dad but to us as well, the staff treated my dad as a human being and took the time to talk to him, not talk at him or over him, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was great, always a choice, plenty of activities if you were up for it. If you are looking for a home/staff that goes the extra mile, choose this one, I would certainly recommend it, a very big thank you to all the staff.
This care home is lovely and has wonderful grounds that the residents can enjoy. It is very well-staffed and all can be rewarded for their care and help. They go over and beyond to make your visit an enjoyable experience. Maintaining a very high level of covid protection which is good to see and shows how they care for their residents and staff. Excellent work.
Nothing but positive things to say about my rehabilitation experience. Staff were extremely helpful and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Regularly checking in if you have not been needing assistance. Staff have a positive attitude and encourage service users when exercising. Food and beverages are very nice although portions are small but adequate.
