View Full Details of Alverstoke HouseThis is the second time my sister and I have used Alverstoke House for respite care for our elderly mother. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and the managers in particular were extremely helpful on both occasions in arranging this at short notice for us. The staff were kind and caring, and we were very happy that she was being safely looked after. Mum settled in quite quickly: she enjoyed the food and liked to sit in the conservatory watching the birds and passersby. We would certainly use the Home again and would be happy to recommend it.
Excellent nursing home. Lovely friendly atmosphere. Staff were very caring and nothing was too much trouble for them. Highly recommend. Thank you for treating dad with love, kindness and compassion.
My husband received care following a stroke. The staff were friendly and kind towards us all.
When approached, Alverstoke House management was immediately interested in and working to accommodate my wife's needs. With a minimum of involvement on my part, she was transferred from the hospital to the home just before Christmas. Her dementia was increasingly active. Her refusal to eat was recognised and sensitively responded to by the care staff. Subsequently, her situation became increasingly restricted. Her ability to move was limited and mentally she was increasingly lacking. It was recognised that she was at 'end of life'. Nevertheless, her daily routine of clothes changes and personal hygiene were maintained to a high standard. My son and I were encouraged to be with her whenever we wished and were able to visit her throughout her time at the home. The nursing staff were very approachable and supported us during a difficult time. My thanks to them all.
I can't say enough good things about Alverstoke House Nursing Home and the incredible team there. From the moment my father was admitted he was greeted with warmth and given the best care. The quality of the care given to my father up to the day he died was truly outstanding.
I have written this review on behalf of my partner and myself. We both were extremely impressed by the overall care of all the staff. We came into contact with. They were kind, friendly and helpful and worth their weight in gold. Nothing was too much trouble.
A very welcoming atmosphere coupled with a professional approach from staff. Food was very good, flexible choices and presented well. Residents' clothing was washed and ironed and returned in an excellent manner. As a relative I was always made welcome, particularly by the main staff group, although sometimes it was difficult to obtain information from senior staff, as they were very office-bound. I did feel that agency staff particularly at weekends were largely left unsupervised.
My stepfather came to Alverstoke House with a myriad of issues. Alverstoke House went over and above to deal with him, all the while treating him with compassion and care, despite my stepfather not always being the easiest to care for. Thank you to everyone at Alverstoke House and for making his time at Alverstoke House as comfortable as possible.
My mother-in-law moved into the Alverstoke House Nursing Home in January 2023 until she passed away on 5 June 2024. The care she had was of a very high quality. All her needs were met, and she was treated with respect and dignity at all times. All of the staff were very kind and caring, this extended to myself and brother. I would recommend this nursing home to anyone needing care, they were excellent.
Alverstoke House staff became like Mum's extra family for the 3 1/2 years she was there. She loved it there and was really well cared for.
My mum had a warm and welcoming new home when moving into Alverstoke House Nursing Home in March 2022. For your parent with dementia to go into a nursing home is not an easy time. The staff were supportive of not only settling my mum with the fantastic activities programme but to involving the family in supporting us throughout the two years. The most wonderful kindness and care from all the staff when the time was upon us for palliative care; we are very grateful to all the staff where my mum had quality of life and loved socialising with residents and staff making new and loving memories, always putting my mum first.
The carers in the home are very welcoming and always have time to answer any problems or concerns I have regarding my sister, it is like a home from home, they always have the residents' best interest at heart, treating them with the care and attention they deserve and I would highly recommend the home to anybody who has to consider a family member or others having to go into a warm, friendly environment.
Mum was a resident from October 2021 until her recent passing and was very happy there. I looked at many homes and this one stood out. The carers, nurses and staff are lovely and she was very well looked after. She was quite particular about things and they all did their best to accommodate her needs. There is always some sort of entertainment and the team goes above and beyond, especially with their themed events. They were so caring to Mum and myself in her last week and I will always be grateful for that. I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone.
Quite rightly, COVID restrictions and lockdowns severely curtailed our visits to the nursing home, but we were always permitted access to our friend provided, of course, that we complied with the prevailing regulations at the time. The home's priority being the protection of their residents at all times. Since the gradual lifting of the imposed restrictions, however, we have experienced a careful opening up of the home to more visitors allowing greater access to residents' rooms. This has led to more freedom for the residents to venture beyond the confines of the home and given a lift to both residents and staff alike. The activities organised by the home are numerous, varied, stimulating and fun with the resident's families and friends often invited to participate. Our experience of the ongoing care afforded to the residents is that it is always respectful, caring and friendly.
I have had a very pleasant stay at Alverstoke House. The staff have been very friendly and have provided a very efficient service. The result is that my hip has healed well and I am able to go back home within my expected timeframe.
My mother entered Alverstoke House at the beginning of September as she had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was also suffering from heart failure. From day one she was treated as part of the family and every single member of staff would take time out to spend time with Mum and every aspect of her care was done with care and understanding. Unfortunately, Mum's illness progressed very swiftly, and after a short stay in hospital after a fall and heart attack, she returned to Alverstoke House for ongoing care. Again, they treated Mum so gently and always asked her permission before carrying out any treatment. Mum deteriorated quickly and we were called to the home. When there we were treated so kindly and were allowed to stay with Mum to the end, the staff cared for us as well as Mum and we will be forever grateful for the care and compassion showed to Mum and my family through this very difficult time.
My mother has been a resident for the past two and a half years. When she arrives, she has a grade four pressure sore, which I was told would never heal, and she would only be able to sit out of bed for one hour per day. But thanks to the wonderful care and attention she has received, it has completely healed, and she can sit out and join in activities as much as she pleases. Thanks to the fantastic food, her diet has completely changed for the better. The range of activities is outstanding too.
My mum has lived at Alverstoke House for the last two years and has been happy. The staff are kind and professional and have really got to know mum, her likes and dislikes, her medical needs as well as a bit about her as a person. Mum particularly enjoys good food and the various activities provided. She enjoys being able to go out into the garden or sit by the pond. On the few occasions that mum has needed extra care (a trip to the hospital for example), this has been organised and mum has received great care from the staff. As a relative, I have always felt welcome and have got to know some of the staff. I live some distance away but am happy that mum is safe, warm and well cared for.
Mum is 94, and after much consideration, she decided she needed to go into care. Alverstoke House is a small family-run home, and it has been wonderful. She was depressed, not eating properly and quite weak physically when she made the decision. What a difference. The staff have become family, she is eating and thoroughly enjoying her food (and Mum has been a very picky eater in the past), taking part in activities put on by the staff and making friends. She is looked after day and night by wonderful staff under the personal supervision of a caring owner. We couldn't have chosen anywhere better for Mum to stay. Thank you all.
It was a place Dad called home. It is spotlessly clean and has a welcoming, friendly and relaxed atmosphere created by cheerful, kind and compassionate staff. He always enjoyed his light and airy room with its views of The Spinnaker. He was always impressed with his daily personal care, often carried out by excellent young staff, a very tough job at that age. In the last days, Dad received continuous 24-hour monitoring when a senior nurse held his hand at his passing, unfortunately, I could not be there at the end. My family and I will always be indebted for the excellent care Dad received from the wonderful staff, many working there in excess of 10 years and some in excess of 30 years, exceptional for the caring sector, pointing to very good management to retain them with smiling faces for so long. The home is also just a 10min walk pushing a wheelchair to a beach cafe, a place where Dad enjoyed a piece of cake, a cup of tea and the bustle of the seaside and its views.
