View Full Details of Wessex Lodge Nursing HomeMy darling father spent his last few weeks at Wessex Lodge. We never wanted for him to go into a home, so emotions were running high. There was a minor issue with his room on the first day, and this was resolved within minutes. Every day we got to know more and more of the staff, who were fantastic. They were so friendly and caring to us, as well as my father. My advice (to anyone else finding themselves in this situation) would be to get to know all of the staff, - cleaners and admin, carers and nurses. The more you give the more you get. They all work so hard, and although there are some stressful moments for everyone (which is understandable given the circumstances of the home and its residents) they are all genuinely lovely people who want to make the residents as comfortable and happy as they possibly can. Thank you to the whole team for allowing my father to travel through his last weeks with dignity, in a place that was the next best thing to his home with his beloved family.
From the first time visiting the carers/staff and the residents were happy. There is always a lovely atmosphere and a homely feel. The staff not only go above and beyond for the residents but also for visiting family and friends. I have complete peace of mind when I leave knowing my mum is happy and being well cared for.
My wife has recently been admitted and, so far has been well looked after, she enjoys the food. She has settled down quite nicely.
My nana went into Wessex Lodge nursing home in September 2023 after a bad experience at a previous home. Wessex Lodge is an absolutely outstanding nursing home, myself and my family can’t fault it at all. It was hard getting my nana settled there but they made sure to make her comfortable and happy at all times, they spent one on one time with her settling her and were always more than happy to answer any questions we had (at that time it was a lot) Every single member of staff in Wessex Lodge works incredibly hard, the nurses and carers would go above and beyond for my nana and we see that every time we’re there. They treat my nana like their own and for that we as a family will be forever grateful. When we leave our nana we don’t feel anxious or worried because we know she is well taken care of. The manager is lovely and is everything you’d want out of a manager, we couldn’t fault anything at Wessex Lodge.
I did not initially choose this care home as my father is currently under the NHS Delirium Care Pathway and was discharged to the next available place. However, I was so relieved when I first visited to find such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, great staff (medical, care and admin) and all areas clean, fresh and tidy. I was immediately confident that he would receive the best care, tailored to his needs and this has, indeed, been the case. He informs me that the chef is open to requests for extra bacon sandwiches for breakfast! There are daily activities to suit all tastes (who knew visiting alpacas would be so popular!) but absolutely no expectation to join in if you don't want to. It appears that my father will need continuing care and I will certainly be making enquiries for him to stay at Wessex Lodge.
The care and friendliness of the staff is five-stars. Requests are responded to quickly and cheerfully. The food is outstanding, and I am very happy here.
My father was admitted to Wessex Lodge on October 22’ until Oct 23’. The nursing home facilities met the needs of my father who had his own en suite room that had a homely feel which made him settle in quickly. The home also has its own lounge, garden and dining area enabling him to socialise with other residents and they had regular events for the residents. The nurses and carers were on hand 24/7 and showed a lot of love and care for my father as well as all the other residents. I would highly recommend this nursing home.
My wife has received excellent service since she entered the home. The staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The food is very good. The room is very good and visiting is easy.
My brother moved into Wessex Lodge Nursing Home for palliative care but because of the care from medical staff and carers he has been there for 8 weeks and he has totally turned around his health issues. He absolutely loves it there and we all enjoy our visits with him.
I find Wessex Lodge to be a welcoming place where the staff can not do enough for you and the residents. The food is amazing and very tasty.
Every time I visit, all staff are so welcoming; they take time to speak to us and make sure my dad has everything he needs. We could not have wished for a better placement.
From the day my Father arrived at the home, he has had excellent service. The staff are so kind and caring. He needed to visit a local hospital for a procedure. Door to door this took three hours. This made our experience all the better. Dad has now refused hospital treatment just prior to needing this. We as a family love everything about this home.
Wessex Lodge staff are all amazing and caring, exceeded all expectations. Nothing was too much bother, they all went above and beyond to ensure my mother-in-law's last few days were made as comfortable and dignified as possible, caring not only for her but us as a family too. I cannot thank them all enough.
From the very first enquiry to the last day of my mum's respite stay at Wessex Lodge, the home promoted a very warm, friendly and relaxed environment. Every member of staff not only made my mum feel important they took the time to talk and listen to her. They were very patient and showed compassion during this very anxious unsettling time whilst away from her home and family. We were encouraged to put photos and personal belongs of mums in her room to make it feel more personal and help with her anxiety. Mum's lack of appetite has been a worry lately but during her stay, the food offered looked delicious with a variety of choices. The staff were always polite and made sure my mum's needs were met, seeking medical assistance when needed. The home is run by an excellent and approachable registered manager who was very helpful with much needed advice on mums return home. I cannot thank all the staff enough for the time mum spent with them.
When we were told we had to move our Mum from residential to nursing care we were worried about choosing the right home. We went to view Wessex Lodge and it had a warm friendly atmosphere. The staff were happy and chatty and we felt very welcome. We had not needed to worry as she was cared for better than her previous home. Mum's room was decorated, shelves and pictures put up as we requested making Mum feel at home. During Mum's last few days she had most of her family around her, 4 generations! We were offered drinks and food as necessary and nothing was too much trouble. Wessex Lodge staff were supportive to us as well as our Mum from day one helping to move her into and then emptying Mum's room. We were particularly very touched with their approach to the latter. We would highly recommend Wessex Lodge and its staff.
Can't speak highly enough of the care provided for my father-in-law at Wessex Lodge. From the moment they became involved, their care, compassion and professionalism shone through. Nothing was too much trouble and their approach made a very private man, who had been terrified of ending up in a home, feel at ease, relaxed and "at home". They extended the same care to my wife after her father's passing.
Lovely, caring staff. Really looked after my nan, making us all feel so welcome at each visit. The way her room was left after her death was so sweet and thoughtful. I will really miss you all, thank you for making nans last year one to remember.
I have enjoyed my time at Wessex Lodge immensely. The staff, in particular, are very helpful, almost always at hand at the end of a bell. In a way, I'm sorry to be leaving but I need to go home before I forget what it looks like. If it is every necessary I wouldn't hesitate to come back for a bit of pampering. Many thanks to everyone, not least the tea person who arrives twice a day.
My wife was admitted to Wessex Lodge on 29th December 2017. She had a rapid decline into dementia after suffering a brain injury in July last year. All things considered, it was a very traumatic period. Wessex Lodge was recommended by many in the community for placement. Having been married for 59 years, the arrangement was a very difficult decision to make. All I can say is Wessex Lodge meets all requirements in the transition.
A very high standard of care. All the staff were excellent and cared for dad very well. Dad received personal care right until the end. We would definitely recommend this care home to anyone.
