View Full Details of Barchester Challoner House Care HomeThe care that my Mum has received over the last year has been exemplary. Without exception, each of the carers and nurses that have looked after my Mum have treated her with dignity, kindness and compassion. I know it is in the job title, but it is obvious that they really do CARE about everything that they do for her. Mum has also been given the opportunity for social interaction at the huge variety of activities that are put on for the residents and this has been a great benefit to her. My Mum's and my family's experience at Challoner House Care Home has been excellent. We have been made to feel welcome and at home at Challoner and I have no hesitation in recommending it.
When trying to accommodate the needs of our parents to remain in their own home, we reached a critical point. Despite all visiting agencies being good in their own right, managing it all became impossible. And so, with heavy hearts, we searched for a care home to look after them. We reached out to places that could assist them both to have a good quality of life whilst leaving their own home behind. Along with others, we looked at Barchester Challoner House Care Home in Chandler's Ford, it gave us a good feel factor, staff were kind and sympathetic. It felt clean and looked after. After a week of settling in, which must have been hugely traumatic for them, they became very positive about aspects of their experience. They now had 24-hour care and medical support always at hand. Mum was a chatterbox who got on well with staff. Dad is always up and dressed into a wheelchair to spend time with Mum or activities as he chooses. A care home is largely only as good as all who work there and the way they are manager. It was an excellent experience for the last three months of their lives.
This very attractive care home is an absolute pleasure to visit. On arrival you're met by very happy and welcoming staff with refreshments available if required. The rooms - leisure, dining and bedrooms are all of a very high standard, and there's a full programme of entertainment and activities each week for the residents - plus sometimes the opportunity for a trip out. The gardens and grounds, kept immaculate, are an added bonus in the summer. My aunt is so happy there, and is always very complimentary about the food. So all in all an absolute gem - somewhere I'd have no hesitation to book for myself.
My husband was admitted for the last week of his life for palliative and nursing care. He was treated with all possible care and attention and I felt confident leaving him in the care of the staff at Barchester Challoner House Care Home. I was made welcome by all and able to visit at any time. I would recommend Challoner House to anyone needing this level of nursing and care.
Ever since we got my aunt into Barchester Challoner House Care Home, it was found to be a very good care home. My aunt seems quite happy there. The staff are nice and are really great with residents and visitors. My aunt also loves their meals and desserts.
We are very pleased with the care my mum gets at Barchester Challoner House Care Home. The staff are professional, kind and caring and they treated difficult situations with humour. They go over and above and do small things that make all the difference.
Gardens are lovely, if it was the summer I would take cuttings from flowers but will be back. Think there could be a bit of updating in the home painting. The staff have made me feel very welcomed. The chef looked after me very well. Cleaners were very good and helpful. So, thank you all very much.
My mum spent fourteen months at Barchester Challoner House Care Home between August 2023 and October 2024. Unfortunately, she was 90% paralysed after two strokes and needed a high level of nursing care. All of the staff were fabulous throughout, caring and attentive. When she was well enough, they got her up into a wheelchair so she could join the other residents for activities and meals. They even managed to get her out on their bus for trips, including to the New Forest for ice cream on one occasion and on another stopping in a pub garden for a half of bitter. She particularly enjoyed the visits from entertainers and the singalongs. The home kept us informed of her medical situation and were absolutely marvellous with her when it was time to go which she eventually did peacefully in her sleep. We couldn't have asked for more.
Dad came into Barchester Challoner House Care Home as respite following his primary carer having to go to hospital. He was made very welcome and all staff have made him welcome. All staff have been happy, cheerful and respectful. Thank you.
My father was admitted to Challoner House in July 223. He was very poorly and not expected to live for long. However, he improved and received care at Challoner until he passed away peacefully there in May 24. The staff have been so kind, caring and supportive throughout this difficult time.
A good home, well-run, the staff are kind, caring and efficient. There are no nasty smells, it's clean and food is healthy and traditional. There are regular activities so residents don't get bored. As a registered nurse, I was fussy where my husband went, nowhere is perfect. But Barchester Challoner House Care Home is about as good as it gets.
The whole staff go beyond their duties which played out for all to see when the resident recently had her 100th birthday event. It really was superb everyone involved just could not do more not only for this event. Everyone is so friendly, like a family which means so much to those who have no family.
I find the home very friendly and homely. Staff are kind, always say 'hello' whenever you meet any staff members. I am very pleased with the way they are caring for my father-in-law.
The home is very homely. The members of staff are all very friendly and all say hello when they see you and have a laugh and a joke with you and Dad which creates a good atmosphere. The girls all wave when they pass Dad's room and speak to him. The nurses are very helpful and answer any questions about Dad. Also, the lads that bring the drinks trolley round are very friendly and helpful.
I found all staff including doctors, nurses, carers, cleaners, helpers and even the chef very friendly and helpful at all times. I've felt my dad has been in good hands and have never felt worried for his care. Everybody has been loving and thoughtful.
My husband recently spent two weeks in Barchester Challoner House Care Home for end of life care. Although his stay was short I cannot fault the care he received. All the staff were so kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, no problem unsolvable. The care and compassion shown to both my husband and myself were first rate and I shall always be grateful to all concerned. I would wholeheartedly recommend Challoner to anyone seeking a safe, kind and caring environment for a loved one.
From the first time we viewed Challoner House, we were so impressed with the staff and facilities. Every single member of staff is friendly and helpful and shows such care and compassion. Dad is showed so much love from all of the team. We would highly recommend it to everyone.
Our father suffered a stroke at 66, stopping him to move or communicate. The manager and the team have been so amazing and compassionate. We can't recommend the whole team enough.
There still seems to be an issue with the quality of food. Mum often says the meat isn't good quality and the food presentation could be improved. I know it must be difficult to cater for 50+ people but perhaps some discussion is needed!
Very happy with the care home for my mum. She is very happy and enjoys all the activities/events. She praises all the staff for their friendliness and helpfulness.
