View Full Details of Millway HouseMum is treated with great respect and the staff are so friendly and helpful. She is staying for rehabilitation following a fall at home. Progress has been slow due to a wound on her heel which happened during her stay in hospital, but the care and attention at Millway has been second to none.
The staff, carers and nurses at Millway House are exceptional. Both my mother and father are now living at the home and the care they receive is superb. They appear to be getting younger! The staff is very stable - we have got to know everyone well during this first year and we really appreciate the consistency. Everyone genuinely cares and the relationships built with residents are heartfelt and professional. Kindness exudes from everyone who works there. The activities are varied, well thought through and carried out with such joy. I fully trust my parents health and well- being to the nurses and carers, who also communicate with us whenever needed and whenever we ask. The carers work hard and manage their workload well, yet make each resident feel special and important. They really take time to get to know each resident and think about their preferences. The rooms and facilities are kept spotless by the efficient, friendly and kind cleaning staff. Millway has become our family.
Overall care at Millway House is very good. One area for improvement would be the laundry, as my sister has experienced having other people's garments left for her and items missing. Hopefully this will improve! Selection of food could be improved. When in-house, the variety at lunchtime and evening was very good.
My mum was admitted to Millway House in January 2025 and both she and I have been so impressed by the care of the staff and the facilities. All the staff, laundry, cleaning, catering, care, maintenance, nursing, activities, reception and management are friendly and approachable and will always provide help and problem-solve. The garden is lovely and the activities are interesting. Mum was really worried about going into a home but is enjoying the company of others and has started up a scrabble club in the evenings. She particularly enjoys the cake and tells me the food is very good. Thank you for making her and my experience of this major change so comfortable.
Mum came to Millway in May from another care home where we were increasingly concerned for her wellbeing - her dementia and physical decline means she's dependent for help with everyday things. The move has been life-changing for all of us. The standard of care and attention so far has been exceptional but what lifts Millway way above the bar is its positive vibe - the whole team makes us feel we're part of a family rather than paying customers. Everyone, regardless of job role, consistently shows up as friendly, welcoming, fun, professional and invested in making Mum's world the best it can be. Mum has her dignity back and is being gently encouraged to re-engage. We no longer worry about her welfare or possessions. Nothing is too much trouble. Call buttons are reacted to quickly. Info is listened to and acted upon. Emails are answered promptly and there are regular update phone calls. Millway is living up to its high reputation and we're very happy to recommend it.
Our mum recently had 3 weeks respite care in Millway House. From our first contact with the home, the communication was excellent. The staff who conducted the home visit chatted with Mum as well as us, not easy when your loved one is a dementia sufferer. Whenever we visited, we were given an update on how Mum was doing and any areas of concern were highlighted. She always looked happy and cared for. We were sent the activities planner and menu by e-mail every week. The range of activities was excellent, and the activities co-ordinator spent a lot of time getting to know Mum on her first day there. There are plenty of places where you can sit and have a coffee and chat when you visit. Wonderful carers. Millway House ticked every box for us.
My mum has been living at Millway House for 18 months now after a fall at home and a stroke while recovering in hospital. She has no mobility as a result but she is well cared for and we got a special wheelchair which enables the staff to move her out of her room and she has her own favourite chair from home too. She is well attended to and cared for.
Red button non-effective. 3 times lately I have had to attend to myself after toilet use with much difficulty and pain. Little attention given to me at 104 years old. I do not use emergency red button except when really needed. No response from carer. No senior people in charge of each floor. Nobody about at night, all presumably not needed to answer red button!
My mum was at Millway House for three weeks of respite care in July while I went away for a short break. Mum was very happy while she was there and I felt happy to leave her with the wonderful staff who took great care of her. This was mum's second time at Millway and she was happier in her room on the ground floor with access to the patio area than she had been the first time she'd stayed on the second floor. I think she liked being closer to where all the activities take place.
My sister has been a resident for 18 months. She is unable to walk and cannot get out of bed due to extreme pain. It seems she cannot leave her room - are the doors not wide enough for her bed? Are there no lifts large enough for her bed? She might have liked to be pushed down to the sitting room or garden to see other people. She was always very sociable before. As it is, she has no other residents to talk to - she would enjoy a game of Scrabble for example. Having said that, she has never suggested she would enjoy leaving her room - that is only my idea! Whenever I visit she is always clean and tidy (as is her room) and there are no unpleasant smells, despite her incontinence. The staff are all very polite and generally cheerful. I am very happy that she is being looked after extremely well.
Having worked in the care sector for many years, I can't fault the care provided to Dad. Staff are compassionate and treat everyone with respect and dignity. Communication is excellent and everyone is accommodating. To hear Dad say 'I'm safe and if I want anything I just use my buzzer' is all the reassurance I need.
I always feel a homely and warm atmosphere when visiting Millway House. My relative is quite a long-term resident, and over her time at Millway, a high standard of professionalism and care has persisted throughout. As a relative I feel confident that my family member is in safe hands at Millway House.
Millway House provides the perfect setting for my mother's care - she has quite advanced dementia and they cope with all her nursing, mental health and pastoral needs with compassion, care and understanding. They are always more than happy to discuss her needs and tailor things accordingly. As a family we are so very happy with Mum spending her later years at Millway - it really is her 'happy place'.
My dad has been at Millway House for three and a half years. I cannot fault the care he has, given that he is not the easiest of their guests! He is treated with care, dignity and patience. The staff are always helpful and work well together. I go in almost every day at various times and speak with many of the residents there - very few have any complaints! My mum was only there eight months before she died (COVID) and adored it. Every picture I have of her is one big smile or laugh.
Millway House is a lovely community and a real home from home. The garden is lovely and the facilities are good. Staff show genuine patience and compassion. The one improvement I would wish to see is a more efficient laundry service.
My gran has been here since May 22. She has settled in well, and all the staff treat her with respect. Her room is always lovely and warm and kept clean and tidy, and we feel comfortable approaching the nurses or carers if we have any concerns. Gran is not a big socialiser; however, she likes her weekly bingo game and going to the hairdresser is also something she enjoys. All the family are happy with the care she has and continues to receive whilst at Millway Care Home.
What an amazing team! In the 3 months that I have spent visiting my mother at this care home, every one of the team has stood out as a friendly, caring and competent person, from the office staff to carers, cleaners, nurses, doctors, and laundry staff in no specific order. The only thing I would wish for is one-to-one at least 2 hours a day with the residents who have full mind capacity but no body function.
The home is situated in a nice country setting, with beautiful gardens, which are well maintained. My room is comfortable, warm and nicely decorated. The staff are kind and friendly and include qualified nurses who provide care around the clock.
My mother has been so warmly welcomed by all the staff at Millway House. She enjoys a lot of the activities provided. The food is excellent and the grounds are magnificent. Thank you Millway House for taking care of my mum.
Dad moved in June 2023, from day one had issues with the en-suite! Issues have been raised but somewhat ignored and now the shower floor is being ripped up and drainage is being changed to rectify! Dad's bed is not right, have complained and ignored whilst in the temporary room. The bed is perfect which shows the issues with the other room's bed. Also, Dad had an issue with the resident coming into Dad's room uninvited, which has been resolved now. All above is totally unacceptable and raises concern, especially for the price Dad is paying and adjusting to his new life, you do not need these issues.
