View Full Details of Barchester St Thomas Care HomeMy mother was admitted as an emergency admission. Staff were fantastic in doing the assessment very quickly, transporting my mum to the care home and welcoming her to her room with a card and flowers.
I can't thank the staff at Barchester St Thomas Care Home enough. The love and care they show to my husband is wonderful. There is no way on God's earth I could have looked after him at home. When I go to St Thomas to visit, there is a warm welcome.
Me and my mother cannot recommend this home enough. After a bad experience, my grandma was placed here and we both saw a rapid improvement in her mental and physical health and happiness. My grandma spent her last few years being loved and cared for by the amazing staff. I honestly believe this love and care gave her more years with us and for that, we are eternally grateful. It is a beautiful place and lots of activities and places to sit and walk about, especially for my grandma who loved to walk.
I am happy with the care provided. The staff are very approachable and helpful. The activities are a key part of the well-being of my husband.
Fantastic care home, very homely. Great care staff, management, clerical staff, very understanding of needs of both my mum and family, very attentive. Great meals provided, lovely rooms, I would highly recommend.
My mother has been very unwell recently, all the staff have been kind, caring and thoughtful. The home is well maintained the staff go out of their way to help and have the ability to recognise an individual persons needs. I am pleased we chose Barchester St Thomas for Mum.
Very sound management who succeed to a very great degree. Rooms are very comfortable and perfectly suitable for their purpose. Apart from one very disappointing first lunchtime, meals are varied and well-presented with good quantity and choice of food. Staff are, on the whole, very friendly and helpful, apart from one or two who could show a little more enthusiasm. The care home, which is well set out, seems ideally set out as a nursing home and should prove very attractive to those seeking a refuge for patients with Alzheimer's.
We are a group who have known each other for over fifty years, who were sad to hear our friend was involved in a hit-and-run accident a year ago. After an active life, living alone in a house with two extensive gardens, cycling 100 kilometres a day and visiting each of us regularly, memory issues now made living alone difficult. Initially, the care home he was sent to for evaluation was far from ideal. We looked at several care homes in the area. St Thomas Care Home was the best, with bright, airy rooms surrounding a large central garden. The facilities are pleasant, and the food is good. However, it is the attitude of the staff where the home excels. They dealt with a difficult transfer from the previous home with care and patience. They have gone the extra mile to help our friend, providing him maximum freedom to do what he wants and letting him do work in the garden. The staff are always cheerful and supportive. Our friend now strongly expresses a wish to remain at St. Thomas.
To start with, the manager welcomes with a beautiful smile. I was humbled with the welcome l was given by both the management team and staff. The resident looked so happy and the place is amazingly beautiful. It smelt fresh throughout the entire building. The care for residents is prioritised greatly. I would recommend this care home anytime. It's good beautiful and well-managed.
Unfortunately, my mum needed full-time dementia care. It was such a hard decision and a worrying one too. We were recommended St Thomas and the manager and the staff put us at ease straight away. My mum has now been there for over a month and she has settled right in. I have total peace of mind. They look after her in the best way possible. She gets involved in the lovely activities they have, sits in the beautiful gardens, loves the food and has made friends. The care team are second to none. Always checking on her, making cups of tea, helping and really giving them the best quality of life you could hope for with this terrible disease. I would recommend St Thomas to anyone in our situation in a heartbeat. Everything we have requested whether it be to put a picture up, a TV in the room, hairdresser it’s done without question. My mum always looks lovely and presentable every day which shows me how much they care and have listened to our requests. Thank you.
The staff are friendly, approachable, patient and caring. They put my husband's needs and safety first, and I trust them to care for him. The manager is really welcoming and is involved with the care of the residents. There is good communication between staff and myself. The building is impressive and comfortable and is kept very clean. The garden is a safe, calm place. A bonus!
Mum had a series of falls last year and was diagnosed with slight dementia. She was in hospital for two months and became frail, could no longer walk and totally incontinent. She was then transferred to Barchester St Thomas Care Home where she has flourished! The family and myself no longer have to worry about Mum not eating as the food is amazing. The care she receives daily is amazing and many of the staff genuinely love Mum. Entertainment and mental stimulation is greatly encouraged. Security is very good, cleanliness, laundry and day-to-day care are good. The staff are very approachable.
First-rate reception. Staff were very good. I was always kept in the picture as to what was going on within the care home. I never had any fears that my partner was not safe in the care home.
The loving care given to our mum by all the staff is amazing. We don't have to worry if we can't get up to see her one day as everyone loves her like us.
On the St Thomas’s website you will see that the carehome.co.uk review is 9.7 rating, whilst next to it is the poor CQC rating, not without reason. My mum has full capacity. After two months we have had to move my mum out of St Thomas. Because she was cognitive she was able to tell us when they failed to give her meals. She was able to tell us when her medication hadn't been given to her and when they looked into it, it had been signed for but not actually administered. The staff did not have the time to engage with my mum, to get her out of the room or to have the appropriate activities suggested on their website. When the assessor came to do a Continuing Care Assessment with her, as part of the assessment she said she cried a lot. The care home nurse suggested that she was depressed, but they would not know because they did not get to spend time with her and they could get her put on antidepressants. My mum is in a new home and is very happy with the great care and is not crying.
We called on the off chance of booking a visit with our friends, due to us being stuck abroad for over 8 months. In lockdown, we had not seen either of them since the previous October. The staff at the home were brilliant and cheerful and we were thrilled to go through the system to enable us to go through the system, to enable us to spend time with our friends there and then. Can't speak highly enough of the staff and management team.
To say I was nervous about coming to an establishment such as yours, I needn't have worried. The staff are very kind, some go way above what one would expect. The whole home is geared towards the care of your guests. My stay is only temporary but should I need more long term, this would be my first choice.
I have now visited my dad a couple of times since he moved into Barchester St Thomas Care Home. I am very pleased that we chose St Thomas as it goes completely against anything we had imagined when we first found out Dad needed full-time nursing care. Dad’s care has been amazing and all of the staff are always so helpful and friendly with the other residents and family that are visiting. We all knew that the day would come that dad needed that level of care and we are just so glad that we found St Thomas. Thank you to all the staff at St Thomas for their hard work and dedication - it really makes a difference to everyone in this situation.
My aunt has been a resident for nearly five years, in which time, she has been well cared for. I have found the staff to be very friendly and easy to approach. The last 18-month have been very difficult for staff, residents and family, and I feel the home has done a wonderful job keeping everyone safe and have been impressed how they have handled visiting for families.
My aunt has been at Barchester St Thomas Care Home care for a couple of weeks now and I’ve noticed a huge change in her well-being the staff are really caring and it’s also so nice and comforting to know.
