View Full Details of Southampton Manor Care Home - Avery CollectionThe atmosphere in the home is friendly and courteous. One concern, however, is missing laundry. Meals vary in quality. Excellent fish and chips, but not good baked fish. Puddings always seem to be good. The above comments are based on my very limited experience of the home.
Dad moved into SM in March 23. He has a lovely garden room. Since his arrival, he has always been treated with dignity, respect and kindness. The staff are so supportive and welcoming when we visit. We three daughters feel totally that we are part of the team supporting Dad's needs. We have nothing but praise for the entire set-up, the team and the facilities. Dad is so lucky to be at Southampton Manor. We could not be happier that Dad calls SM his home.
My wife was discharged from hospital to Southampton Manor, with Alzheimer's disease and terminal cancer. She was not expected to live longer than a few weeks. From the moment of her arrival she was treated with great professionalism and loving care. Her problems made her, at times, a difficult resident, but the staff showed great consideration and patience in looking after her. I spent a lot of time visiting her, and the staff always showed me very great kindness when I was there. After five weeks she died peacefully, with friends and family around her. I am very grateful to Southampton Manor for making her final weeks as comfortable as possible, given the pain and confusion she was experiencing.
We chose Southampton Manor for my sister as it felt like a five star hotel with all the facilities provided and the meal options together with the self service Bistro for visitors to use when they visit their relatives. The staff are genuinely caring and do a fantastic job. They ensure the residents are looked after and are all called by their names. Every member of staff has a smile on their face and are welcoming. Telephone reception is always friendly and helpful as is the client liaison officer - all the staff are amazing. We feel we have provided the best care facility we can for my sister. Thank you.
My mum has only been at Southampton Manor Care Home for 2 months but has settled in so quickly. This is mainly due to the wonderful staff who have welcomed Mum with open arms and looked after her so well. Mum loves all the entertainment, especially the dancing and she said the food is fabulous. This is a very well run home and I got a good impression when I first visited for the initial morning in chat with the friendly manager who was so efficient and enabled such a smooth more. Thank you.
I consider the management to be first-class. The majority of the staff are helpful and very kind and I was grateful for their help.
After visiting other residential homes, my visit before respite at Southampton Manor Care Home was 100% better. After staying here for three weeks my initial thoughts were confirmed. The staff are incredible, so happy, friendly and helpful. The choice of meals was wonderful and delicious. If I didn't want what was on the menu I could ask for something else. The only downside was the wait for the food which I believe was because there was only one chef. I thoroughly enjoyed the activities and the organisers were great. The nurses and carers were only too happy to help. The management was so approachable and helpful. I will be recommending Southampton Manor Care Home to all my friends and family.
My mother has always received the best care.
A first-class residential care home! You get top-class personal service for your relative in the home. The staff are welcoming, very social and well trained. The facilities are truly outstanding. Cannot find a fault, how lucky we were to find this for Mum.
I have been visiting my friend for nearly a year now and come most days of the week. Within this time I have come to know the place, staff etc very well indeed. Having visited friends in other care homes I can honestly say that Southampton Manor beats them all hands down in every aspect of care etc. The place is kept clean and tidy, there is always someone willing to help; even if not their job. Everyone is so friendly. The food and choices are great; I should know, I've eaten there. All staff are great, but there are some exceptional members of staff from cleaners to carers to maintenance to kitchen staff and the front of house reception team. Having spoken to various management and staff I have found them to always be very friendly and approachable. They have a great maintenance team who keep on top of repairs. They are also very happy to help get a resident's room the way they want it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to friends and loved ones.
Mum stayed at Southampton Manor for a 2-week vacation/respite. She loved the place! Meeting new people, joining in activities and being looked after by your super team. She went home happy with her batteries recharged. Thank you.
You cannot really fault Southampton Manor. The surroundings and decor and services are great. The food that is on offer is first class. I would highly recommend Southampton Manor. The staff are very nice, nothing is too much trouble. I don't think there is anything to dislike about the place.
My view regarding Southampton Manor care home is faultless. My aunt and uncle are residents and have been since August 2023. All staff have been outstanding and have supported them with the greatest of care and dignity.
Visited Mum at the care home to celebrate the event of her 93rd birthday. I arranged a Sunday lunch visit for a party of 5, had a great 3-course meal and a glass of wine - food was excellent, service was exceptional. The manager in particular was inspiring but the team around her were efficient and helpful. A great way to share time with a loved one in splendid surroundings. Roll on my birthday! Thank you to all who made this possible.
The care at the care home was very caring and professional. The staff was very attentive to the patients whom they treated as part of their family. The home had a very pleasant and roomy decor which was very modern and always very clean.
Based on our experience, we do not recommend this home. We encountered several issues, and over time, the family lost trust in the home, resorting to visiting almost daily. We submitted a formal complaint to Avery, which was also forwarded to the CQC. The complaint was investigated by Avery, resulting, for the most part, in the usual ‘lessons learnt’ etc. We did escalate one issue to the Ombudsman, primarily around what we believe to be the lack of dignity and respect following death. While the Ombudsman identified faults, it chose not to investigate as Avery has accepted fault in several areas. However, it did note that Avery's failures in these areas may be breaches of the fundamental standards. We find it appalling that these issues occurred in the first place and it has caused extreme upset to the family, without any proper formal apology from Avery Southampton GM. I have also noted Avery staff members/General Managers posting 5* reviews for this home on another platform.
Southampton Manor is the best care home I've been to, and I've seen quite a few! The attention to their residents is second to none. The staff are wonderful - kind, caring, fun. They talked to my mum like she was one of them, there was no condescension. Her room was painted for her before she moved in and was immaculate. To have kitchen facilities is something I hadn't seen before. The bistro is a lovely place to get out of Mum's room. The garden is very well maintained and lovely to push Mum outside. It felt like the most wonderful place and we were looking forward to visiting Mum for many years. Unfortunately, she died suddenly after a couple of months. My sister and I were so touched by the care with which we were treated, the genuine sadness felt by the staff - my mum was quite a character! We were so glad the lovely nurse was with Mum as she passed away. I cannot speak more highly of Southampton Manor and its lovely people.
My husband was a resident in the dementia unit from September 2023 until early February 2024. The staff helped him to settle and any challenging situation was well-managed. He was cared for safely with understanding, kindness, and compassion. The nursing care could not be faulted, indeed it was exemplary, professional, and appropriate. We were always treated with courtesy and thoughtfulness. As he reached the end-of-life stage, I was able to stay with him the whole time and all the staff ensured we were both as comfortable as possible, which was not only of great comfort to me but also a privilege. The concierges, cleaners, kitchen and laundry staff and maintenance personnel showed the same responsible, caring and friendly attitude and I could not have wished for a better experience in the circumstances.
This has been a super experience from my initial enquiry though to Mum's departure. Everyone has been professional, friendly and caring. We especially appreciated that they took time to engage with Mum. She has very much enjoyed her stay. We will at some point be looking at long-term care and this home has given us some confidence in making the decision.
My mother moved here in September due to memory difficulties making living independently impossible. I've been very happy with the very caring attitude of staff, who have all helped her settle well. The surroundings are bright and attractive, with lots of changing decorations and a rang of stimulating activities which she is joining in with more and more now that she is becoming more confident. There is a very pleasant atmosphere whenever I turn up to visit. A real community.
