View Full Details of Field House Care HomeOur mother was a resident at Field House for a 28 day assessment following a long stay in hospital with several health issues and in particular a high output stoma! She was so well cared for here ! I have to especially mention her nurse who was mums favourite, she really went the extra mile for mum at all times and had such a lovely caring nature. We would definitely recommend this home.
Field House was a gem of a find! My wife stayed there in November recovering from a hip fracture. I visited her almost every day thus seeing much of the activity in the home. Administration is exemplary from the initial assessment to the final discharge report; so detailed and caring. Security is good, so that one can be sure residents are safe. The atmosphere is very homely; whilst the building is older this gives it a warmth and charm difficult to recreate in more modern functional establishments. It has its quirks, of course, as the building has been adapted, but nevertheless it creates a warmth and quietness perfect for a healing atmosphere. The little garden is a real bonus. The staff were exceptional: kind, compassionate, encouraging and professional, in all cases, especially the nurses, activity coordinators and catering staff. My wife benefitted greatly in Field House so accelerating her healing, for which we are very thankful.
My mother was resident in Field House Care Home for three years. She received excellent care me enjoyed all the activities and special events. I am very grateful for the particular care and attention as her anxiety levels increased and she could not be left alone. Staff were very considerate and caring.
I consider Field House excellent and would recommend it. I have had nothing but care and kindness and smiles from every member of staff from management, nurses, carers, cleaners, laundry lady, kitchen staff, and the lovely ladies who keep us busy with exercises and quizzes. I would also mention the nurses and carers who feed the people unable to feed themselves.
The staff at Field House made our friend's birthday so special. We had planned to have a Fish and Chip lunch and were delighted to find that a beautifully laid-out table had been set up for us on the patio under a shady umbrella. Staff made sure that we had everything we needed and even brought out a birthday cake to round off the celebrations.
All the staff at Field House Harpenden have gone out of their way to help and support me during my stay. I cannot fault their kindness and care. it is an excellent care home and very efficiently run. The amazing staff are extremely thoughtful, empathetic and knowledgeable. They always have time to listen and help and go the extra mile in their care. I have been very happy and well looked after funding my time here convalescing.
My father has been a resident at Field House for several years, after a fall and difficulty walking. The staff at Field House have provided wonderful care and support for him during this time, with a real connection and kindness throughout his stay. At times he needed intensive nursing support, but he was always cared for with great attention to his skin, personal comfort and dignity. The staff and manager are very responsive in communicating about his needs, and in liaising with GPs, social services or opticians as required. His room is always very clean, and the range of food available is excellent. He was always encouraged to engage in activities or just to socialise over lunch, and the outside garden area is really nice in the summer. Although it is an old building, the main lounge and other features give a much more homely feel that some care homes and the staff know the residents well. I am extremely grateful for all the care the staff provide.
Dad (96) became temporarily unable to look after himself at home. Field House provided an excellent interim solution (2 weeks respite), giving him the care he needed while we put in place a care package to enable him to return home. From start to finish the process of admitting him, and removing him 2 weeks later was very easy. Although it's not modern, or purpose-built, it is a fine building which has a warmth about it. The room that Dad occupied was quite small, but it was ok for just a couple of weeks. I must praise all the staff for their high standards of care, and a friendliness which was combined with their professionalism. Field House is a small home with a welcoming atmosphere, allowing the staff to get to know the residents and families. Should the need arise in the future, Dad would be happy to return to Field House.
Mum had 3 very happy years at Field House and was always cared for by caring, compassionate, professional staff who all knew her well. It has a nice homely atmosphere which made Mum feel comfortable and secure and the family felt reassured and confident that she was well looked after. The management was approachable and always willing to help resolve any queries.
Our Father (90) has been a resident at Field House since June 2023. After his hip replacement, he was unable to walk or stand and required 24-hour care. My brother and I chose Field House after meeting with the manager who asked extensive questions about our Father’s health, which we found reassuring, and showed us the home. The standard of care here is very good and the staff are professional, caring and kind. Communication with the manager and staff is excellent. Our Father is very well looked after, is always clean, and his clothes and sheets are regularly laundered. He likes the food and has a lovely room that overlooks the well-maintained garden. He often uses the hand-held buzzer which alerts staff that he needs assistance. They seem prompt to respond. We have access to an online portal so we can see what medication our Father is taking. Field House liaises with a local GP who is always on call. We recommend Field House if you are looking for a local care home in Harpenden.
Professional and efficient staff. Great level of care. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Field House.
The care I received was very good. However, the quality of towels was less than good, size of sheets not large enough for large mattresses, given that the cost of staying there is £200 per day.
I came to Field House having had a fall, resulting in a fractured wrist and pelvis. It was a relief to be looked after here for respite. The staff were very attentive, except for one female at night who was very surly. The food provided was excellent and my room clean, with nice access to the garden. The garden could do with some care and the chairs are heavy and not cleaned! Overall, a good experience. But, would have benefitted from more help with mobility or physiotherapy?
My mother was a resident at Field House Care Home for several years. The staff were all very good, caring and friendly. It was very reassuring to me to know my mother was in good hands.
My wife has been a resident for over 4 years now and, through all that time, the care has been second to none. The staff are exceptionally caring to the residents and unfailingly helpful and friendly to relatives and visitors. The home is well-managed and the senior staff are friendly and very competent with the needs of the residents always foremost in their minds. Food is excellent and varied especially after a recent revamp of the kitchens.
I believe staff and residents would benefit from in-room intercom to save staff from running around. I am generally happy with how the home is run and have no complaints. Note from brother: the idea here is to advise staff of the urgency of the call so service requests can be managed more efficiently and effectively.
The manager and her team did an amazing job in caring for my mother-in-law during her two years at the home. In particular, the home staff provided a lot of support to my mother-in-law who was blind. I would highly recommend Field House if you are looking for a caring and compassionate home for your loved one.
Arrived at Field House Care Home on 13th February (after a month in hospital and respite care following collapsing on 17th January with dehydration). Still "dazed" for several days, needing help with my ablutions etc. By March, I was more independent (with the aid of my walking stick). Encouraged to participate in activities and interests available and tend to watch interesting programmes on TV. The carers - of all ranges - really do care, their patience, tolerance and understanding show the true meaning of the simple word "care" for which I am so grateful.
My father has been at Field House since 2019 and has had very good care throughout this time. The staff are helpful and kind. I recommend Field House if you are considering care options for your relatives.
A very friendly care home managed extremely well. Pleasant surroundings and all staff made good efforts to personalise care. My family and I would recommend it highly.
