View Full Details of Verulam House Nursing HomeMum was cared for at Verulam House Nursing Home from Feb 2023 until 20 Feb 2025. She was treated with the utmost care and dignity by all the staff there. Everyone is friendly, courteous and professional. The team ran by matron puts everyone at ease and fills residents and relatives with confidence of a caring environment.
After a tough battle in hospital following a deterioration to my Grandads health and a battle with Cancer over the past 12 months prior to his hospital admission, my Grandad was informed that the Cancer had returned and he was too frail to receive treatment and he had a few months to live. Despite his wishes to return home, this sadly was not possible. His wishes were then to get out of the hospital to pass away peacefully. Thanks to the management team at Verulam House, we were able to make this possible. Although my Grandad sadly passed not even a week later, he received amazing care and treatment and he passed away as dignified and peacefully as possible and that is down to the care and treatment that he kindly received. Myself and family are most thankful to the team, not only for supporting my Grandad but for the care and support given to us as a family also.
My wife entered the home from a hospice and spent 2.5 weeks there before she died. The home managed her medical needs including a syringe driver. Once the care became 'End-of-life' care the staff could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
My husband moved to Verulam House when I was no longer able to cope with his advancing Alzheimer's. I feel he settled well and was at all times well looked after. I visited weekly and was welcomed by the friendly staff. If I raised a concern, I felt it was immediately addressed. The parking area made it convenient for visits.
Both Mum and Dad were residents at Verulam Care Home from November 2021 to February 2024. Sadly both Mum and Dad passed away January/February... we received support and compassion during a very difficult time... nothing was too much trouble both Mum and Dad were looked after with great care and all staff provided support to myself and sister. Mum and Dad's last year together in the home was a blessing for them to be together... thank you to everyone at Verulam House.
Verulam House has been wonderful for my brother, he was well looked after and happy there as you will see from my ratings. All the staff always spoke when I visited and there is a warm and loving atmosphere. He and I were so grateful for all the care and attention he received. I cannot speak more highly of them. Sadly my brother passed away on the 19th of January.
My mother was a resident at Verulam House for over two years. She was treated with care and kindness by everyone, from the maintenance staff through to Matron, throughout her stay and was very happy there. As a regular visitor, I felt part of the 'Verulam House family' and always welcome. The standard of nursing care provided by both day and night staff was wonderful with a consistently high ratio of staff to residents. Due to their care, Mum was able to stay in her room at Verulam House for her end of life care, with family able to visit at any time. Staff were very kind to me during this time and I was very well supported. I would definitely recommend Verulam House - we could not have hoped for a more caring home for Mum.
Verulam House provided exemplary care for my husband who had Parkinson's with Dementia and latterly kidney failure. All the staff, from the handymen, receptionists, kitchen staff, carers, nurses and the wonderful senior nurses and Matron, ensured that he was so well cared for until his death. They also made us feel completely welcome. We could go in at any time, and the staff cared for us as well as for him. Following his death, they completely respected our faith needs and were so sensitive, asking difficult questions about what should happen. Three of the staff came to the funeral, which just exemplifies their care during and after stays with them. My husband's mother had been with them for many years and we knew that my husband would receive the care that she had had. I would recommend this care and nursing home to anyone looking for care for their loved ones. I have nothing but praise for them.
My brother and I were happy that our decision to move Mum to Verulam House for the last year of her life was the right one. She was well looked after and comfortable and said activities were available if she chose to take part. The staff were very good at keeping in touch with us and always friendly when we visited. Although the fees were expensive, we would certainly recommend Verulam House to others in a similar situation.
Unfortunately, my father only spent a week in Verulam House. However, the palliative care you gave him was excellent. You were all so kind, caring and above all, gave my father back his dignity. All the staff went that extra mile to ensure my father was comfortable. Time was spent to ensure he could enjoy the tasty food your kitchen prepared. His every need was considered. However, what strikes me the most is the extras given to a man who had only, very recently, become a resident. For example, the deputy matron sat with dad for an hour after her shift one evening, when she knew his time was growing short. She spoke words of great comfort. I am so grateful to you all as I could not easily be with my father as I live 280 miles away. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Over the six years that my mother was in Verulam House Nursing Home, I have found the level of care and support to be very good. Mum seemed very happy to be there and I always felt welcome.
My father commented on the good care and liked the way everyone waved into his room as they passed. (He was bedbound but compos mentis). The home has a lovely, friendly feel, and the staff were fantastic at the end of my father's life.
What was a difficult transition for Mum. was eased immeasurably by the staff at Verulam House. We have been through some bad times, but they have been amazingly supportive. They have time, even when under immense pressure through covid and staffing problems due to quarantine. As far as we are concerned, the staff are family. The home is a home from home and we could not ask for better.
My mum went to Verulam House Nursing Home for end-of-life care. The care and nursing team were very kind and supportive. She was only there for a few weeks until her death, but it was a great relief to have her so well looked after. We very much appreciate the service we received.
My father was in Verulam House for nearly three years. There is a high ratio of staff to residents and this was immediately evident compared to his previous nursing home. There is a low turnover of staff, who are kind and good at their jobs. Beautiful garden and very pleasant surroundings. My father liked living at Verulam House, where he was cared for until the end with dignity and care.
I spent two weeks post-operative recuperation in Verulam House. I was treated with the upmost professionalism, care and kindness/love. My every need was catered for; nothing was too much trouble. The staff were always cheerful despite some trying circumstances. The facilities, food and activities were first class. I highly recommend Verulam House for permanent care.
Stayed here for 2 weeks of recuperation following surgery. I was probably the youngest to stay by some 20-30 years. However, my experience was very humbling to see how caring all the staff are. I would have no problem if any member of my family needed care in the future to use this home. Well done to all the lovely staff and thanks.
All the staff at Verulam House showed real care towards my grandfather throughout his time living at Verulam House. During the end of his life, they showed great compassion in supporting all his family in spending special time with him. We are very grateful.
My brother and I tried very hard to keep mum cared for at home during her final months, but her condition deteriorated to the point where she needed expert palliative care. We were so lucky to discover Verulam House. All the staff were kind and caring, treating mum with dignity and always retaining a cheerful demeanour even during such difficult times for everyone. All members of the family were also kindly dealt with by staff and all our requests and wishes were met. It may not have been possible for mum to pass at home, but Verulam House was certainly home from home.
