View Full Details of The Elms Nursing HomeMum has had quite a few stays in The Elms over the past few years. I have found the staff, including the carers, nurses, housekeeping, laundry, cook and receptionist to be caring and friendly to Mum and us as visiting family. In recent weeks the manager and deputy have been really supportive in helping me navigate Adult Social Care and the NHS in trying to get the appropriate support in place for Mum.
Really pleased with the overall care and warmth you receive when visiting, we can clearly see how well our uncle is being looked after. Be great to have volunteers dropping in for a chat, when family are unable to visit.
The Elms is a fantastic care home with excellent staff. My friend is very happy there and comments how caring the staff team are. I have always found management to be approachable and welcoming and would not hesitate to recommend this home. The home is decorated beautifully and when I have had meals there they have always been tasty and hot.
My dear dad has end-stage Multiple Sclerosis and after years of caring for him at home, the very difficult decision was made to place him in permanent nursing care. This was a worrying time, as we had experienced poor levels of care from another home on the island when my partner and I were desperate for respite, however; on admission to The Elms, our worries were quickly laid to rest, as the care and attention given to my dad is exemplary, and usually delivered with a smile, which can honestly make the world of difference! Dad prefers to stay in his room, which may I add, is bright, clean and comfortable, but he is never left for long without being checked which is invaluable for our peace of mind, and we are particularly grateful for the vigilance of the nurses if my dad's condition deteriorates. So a huge THANK YOU to the super-friendly reception and management team, for whom nothing is too much trouble and the wonderful carers and nurses who look after my dad so brilliantly!
Mum has been in The Elms for 2 years. Initially, everything was great. The staff are excellent but standards have drastically slipped. There is no routine timetable or management. Things happen as and when if there's time. New staff are poorly trained, having spoken to several, they are also not happy with this and feel inadequate to carry out their tasks.
Generally pleased with the home. Wrong that the home takes the money given to my mother by the NHS for nursing care on top of the large amount she pays monthly. I should have been told about this at my mother's admittance with paperwork, I received neither. Off-site activities always seem to be the same faces in the pictures, probably because they are mobile, do they pay extra for this privilege? Staffing levels often seem lower at weekends. Could do with water being available for residents in the lounge.
We can't thank the entire staff of The Elms Nursing Home for taking care of our mother! She spent 3 months here at the end of her life and honestly the help and support we received at Elm’s was priceless! We appreciate all the night and day nurses that constantly checked on mum, all the lovely people bringing mum tea or just coming in for a chat. And especially a huge Thank You to Elm’s Manager! You are an Amazing Human Being and you made the last days for our mum better! Thank You for all your invaluable advice, helping mum with English language and just being there next to her when we couldn’t. Thank you for giving mum a chance to have some happy moments when she took care of her little 'garden' on her balcony! We know that meant so much to her! Another special Thank You to 3 care-ladies who comforted me as a daughter in the final moments. I wouldn't be able to survive it without you. I am forever grateful! Bless you All!
From the second I arrived I was treated really well and felt welcomed. The staff are fantastic, friendly, funny and brilliant. My constant banter with them all has been fun and made my stay very enjoyable. The physiotherapy crew have achieved, in my view, a miracle to get me back on my feet and walking and exercises that due to Spinal Muscular Atrophy is not an easy thing to do. I can not thank them all enough for all their professional support and guidance plus encouragement which has allowed me in only two weeks to be allowed to go home. The meals here are absolutely delicious. Three meals a day plus biscuits or cake with your morning and afternoon teas and coffees. The meals are very tasty and the variety of dishes per week is excellent. I will miss this place and especially all the amazing staff, every single one of them. I want to say thank you all for taking such great care of me.
I spent six weeks at the home and received excellent care from the staff and physiotherapists. All the staff were cheerful and nothing was too much trouble for them. I was impressed with their attitude, and their friendliness helped me to settle in quickly, dispelling any fears I had about being referred to a nursing home. I have much to thank them for.
I would put the Elms as one of the best homes on the island. The staff are friendly, very encouraging and so helpful. The food is excellent, plenty of choice with care taken for vegetarian foods. An amazing array of things to do every day. Rooms are super, good size and en suite. Lovely garden to sit in and enjoy. It seems nothing is too much trouble, plenty available between meals and at night. My only criticism being the call system. This urgently needs attention, no repeat calling appearing to carers and no emergency call available. The change to the current system was not thought through. The Night Staff numbers definitely require looking at, repeatedly as few as two only, unfair to them and leaving residents unhappy/uncomfortable.
My mother was temporarily in the care of The Elms after a fall. During her stay, she was very well treated in a safe and pleasant environment. The staff were helpful and attentive at all times and made her feel welcome and happy during her stay. Thank you.
As a person very experienced and qualified in providing care, I think I have a good judgement. It was with great reluctance that I accepted the need for care. Your staff continue to be very aware of ones needs and these they provide with efficiency, patience and cheerfulness, coping with all our requests. In my opinion, I could find nowhere better. I would like to have a face to face discussion occasionally, maybe in a group but not everybody at once, say a group of four or five.
I was worried at first, but soon settled down and would recommend to any family to look for a place here.
The room was very comfortable and the food was delicious. The staff are nice and helpful and the other residents were friendly. My stay here has been comfortable and relaxing, even with the physio.
My stay at The Elms has been satisfactory, and the carers are always bright and cheerful and very willing to help me, whatever the circumstances.
First-class care, food and everything all round is good. I am very happy to be here.
They have taken great care of Mother. Any problems with her health and they contact us straight away. The staff are very caring and help her in every way. She is very happy and contented there.
Because of staff shortages, the time-lapse between calling for assistance and getting it is excessive. Despite this, the staff are patient and tolerant in difficult situations. Their hard work is much appreciated.
Excellent home staff who cannot do enough for the residents, even under times of great pressure. Very clean and tidy home. Food could be more flavoursome and more varied.
I came into this home full of trepidation but was surprised to find how kind the staff were. They always used your first name, helped in any way they could and were always cheerful. The physiotherapy was first class and went above and beyond their remit to get me on my feet again, for which I am extremely grateful.
