View Full Details of Birkin Lodge Care & Nursing HomeMy auntie is very happy and so well cared for at Birkin Lodge Care & Nursing Home. The staff are very cheerful and nothing is too much. I visit twice a week and it's always the same, happy and homely.
My father has been in this home since December. It really has been the making of him. The care has been excellent and the activities provided are second to none. The food is excellent and I know my father is happy here which makes me happy too.
We hold a monthly communion service at the Birkin Lodge Care & Nursing Home and are always made welcome; the residents speak well of living there too. The Lodge has recently undergone refurbishment so all is looking bright and welcoming. Always seem to have a range of activities going on and a good varied menu with vegetarian options.
What an amazing place! The staff are the best. It's so lovely to see my grandad so happy and well looked after. Thank you so much.
I visit the home on an almost daily basis, I am always welcomed in like a member of one big family, not just as a family member to a resident. The activity coordinator arranges the most amazing special events and I am often pulled along for the ride and I love it. The head of department is infectious and joyful and even on my auntie's darkest days she can bring a smile to her face. The care team and management team are always present and available to talk if I ever need to. I would highly recommend this home based on its love, care and compassion. I always see clean and fresh living areas and what stands out the most is the dignity and respect that is shown to each resident whenever I am there. I love seeing how happy my aunt is since coming to live and make friends at Birkin Lodge. For the money that is paid to stay here, I would say they are selling themselves short. We were quoted much more for much less in other places.
My nana is very happy here at Birkin lodge. She has been with them since January, starting with a few weeks of respite and loved it so much she is now a permanent resident at the home. The staff are all so friendly and kind and caring. My nana said it’s like a family home and she feels very safe and happy here and made some new friends. They do a wide range of activities which she loves to be involved in. Sometimes she struggles with her sight but they are always willing to help and encourage her. The food is of a very high standard and they are always willing to accommodate me joining my nana when I visit, by offering me to stay and have tea or lunch with her. We are very lucky that we have managed to get my nana into such a kind caring place.
My mum is well cared for in a safe, warm environment. The staff are friendly and approachable. My mum enjoys the food provided; I believe there are a wide variety of choices for lunch and supper. I like that you can visit at any time of the day.
Excellent care home. Home from home for residents. Always something going on for residents to be involved with. Friendly and efficient, competent staff. The food is always very good. Management and nursing staff are always available for any concerns.
My mother was stuck in the hospital after breaking her hip and then having two heart attacks while recuperating from the ensuing hip operation. She told me more than once, whilst there, that she was too tired to fight on and just wanted to give up. Since being placed in Birkin Lodge, however, she has literally gained a new lease on life. She is the happiest I've seen her for some time and goes to great lengths to tell me (and anyone who will listen) how wonderful the staff are, how friendly they are towards her and how I couldn't have chosen a better care home for her. Needless to say, this is a huge relief for me too. Mum is 99 years old later this year and still as sharp as a tack, much of which I attribute to the care she receives at Birkin Lodge, so thank you to everyone involved, from both of us.
This home is amazing for giving each and everyone of the residents a personal touch. My grandad was terrified to go into a home, but when he went here he was delighted. They treated him so well and went above and beyond what they needed to. A home where you can genuinely expect the best care for your loved one.
Since my mother became a resident at Birkin Lodge in 2021 she has received excellent care from all the team at the home. She enjoys the activities and the company of fellow residents in addition to all the staff. My mother often comments on the kindness of all the team and she enjoys the food at Birkin Lodge immensely.
The care from all the staff at the home is very good. Mum seems happy and has made friends. Mum joins in with the activities. Food is very good. We did have an incident with rough handling by an agency carer, but when reported to the manager, it was dealt with very well. It is good that I can visit anytime, which makes you feel that there is nothing to hide! Nice, friendly home and I like to join the activities too!
The home is absolutely fantastic and I am enjoying my stay here. I enjoy the activities on offer and I always feel valued and made to feel special on my Birthday I was treated like a Queen.
I am very happy with the way my friend is treated here at Birkin Lodge. She is always impressed with one lady and the activities on offer. I saw her go from a shell of a person back into her fun and loving self. The home is clean and always smells nice. Staff make you feel welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. I can not comment on the price, as I do not know costing.
I feel I should post an 'end of term' review of Birkin Lodge. My stepfather has been in their care for over three years and his life ended peacefully with staff at his bedside after a sudden deterioration yesterday. I live a three-hour drive away and the communication of his sudden end was sensitive and clear. I know that I would have been told if travelling to be with him had been worthwhile, as they knew that I saw him two days before he died for a good length of time when he was unconscious but still strong. I have been shown images of how my stepfather had some good interactive days during the week before he died. Though declining health meant he was more often in his room, Birkin Lodge knew he was both gregarious and popular and made every effort when he had a 'good day' to get him up and out as that enabled him to thrive. I know even more fully after visiting today to clear the home of his possessions how well the staff knew my stepfather and cared about him. I thank them.
The stress, worry and guilt at having to place my mother in a care home has been allayed by the knowledge that at Birkin Lodge she is being very well looked after. Everyone is lovely and friendly and communication is excellent. Thank you to all for looking after her so wonderfully.
Birkin Lodge has many great attributes, however, I feel the staff are what makes this an excellent home. The very first time I visited I was warmly welcomed by every member of staff and this has continued for the 19 months that Mum has been a resident. There are too many people to mention, with examples of excellence at all levels. It was the most heart wrenching decision to place Mum in care but I truly believe I couldn't have chosen anywhere better locally.
As a family, we couldn’t be more pleased with the care that Mum has received since being at Birkin Lodge. Her care and wellbeing are an obvious priority to the staff, she suffers from Parkinson’s and can sometimes be quite challenging, but the staff always have time and patience for her. She likes the food and when encouraged to join in the social activities arranged, really enjoys being with others. She has settled down well at the Lodge, and we are enjoying the peace of mind that comes when we know that she is absolutely in the right place. We are very grateful to all the wonderful staff at Birkin Lodge.
Mum moved to Birkin Lodge last year during the pandemic so I was unable to view the home personally. However, the staff I spoke to gave me confidence that she would be fine and how right they were. She has settled in well and loves the daily entertainment which is stimulating and engaging. I love seeing the Facebook updates so even when we were unable to visit, we could see she was happy and well cared for. The staff nursed Mum through Covid and held her hand through a family bereavement. We could not have asked for more. Now I am able to visit I see she has a lovely bright airy room with her own bits and pieces to make it feel like home. She really is enjoying her autumn years and I cannot thank the staff enough for all the care and friendship they give her.
My dad has had several stays for respite at Birkin Lodge. It provides a welcome rest for Mum, whilst we are happy that he is being well cared for. Whenever I take him there, it is always familiar faces, which is so nice, as they remember him and vice versa. I’ve been very happy with the care he has received and will continue to use Birkin Lodge whenever we need to.
