View Full Details of Firtree House Nursing HomeWhat immediately stands out at Firtree - the staff hold their heads up. Ready to engage, keen to help, look you in the eye. Always with a smile. Prior to arriving at Firtree, our experience of care homes taught us to expect a battle. We've had none of this at Firtree. It's refreshing to talk things though in a calm and measured manner, knowing the appropriate actions will be carried out. We chat with the staff with great warmth from both sides, although the staff remain utterly professional. My dad's care is attentive, for which he is appreciative. He is content and is thankful of the efforts from all concerned. My mum, a regular visitor, is adamant should she ever need admission to a nursing home, she's going to Firtree! The daily activities the home offers residents exceed expectations. Big events are hosted every month or so, with families invited - again, expectations exceeded, so no surprise there's a big turnout. Management and staff are key. Amazing place, well done Firtree.
I am totally astonished by the attitude of every member of staff I have met here. Nothing is too much trouble. The nurse always updates me on his welfare. It is like a family here. The entertainment and activities here are practically constant. So much stimulation for the residents. The food - amazing! What comes out of a tiny kitchen is so good I could eat here myself. I couldn't ask for more for him. In fact, putting my name on the waiting list for when my time comes.
After Mum had been in hospital for several weeks Mom was transferred to Firtree House. The staff were so welcoming and made her feel at ease and calm in yet another new surrounding. One week on and I cannot speak highly enough of each and every member of staff I have met. They are led by the manager who is simply incredible with what she does - her door is always open. She clearly has a passion for excellence and will not have anything less in Firtree. A calm, safe, and peaceful environment with love and care is exactly what Mum needs and this is at the heart of Firtree. I wanted to have shelving and pictures put up in Mum's room so she could have her special memories placed around her. The gentleman did this without hesitation. When I walked in I was bowled over to see how they had placed all of Mum's ornaments so beautifully on the shelves. This has made Mum feel so at home - isn't that what is and should be at the heart of everything which it clearly is at Firtree?
Everybody was kind and helpful comfortable room and good facilities.
My sister-in-law has improved since being here. She is doing more activities and we have noticed that all the staff are involved with what is happening to her. This makes her interact with others a lot more.
After a traumatic move - home to the hospital to Firtree House. My Mother had deteriorated and was bedbound. However, the care received at the home was very good and she improved considerably - although still bedbound. The staff has always been very kind to Mum and me. From the managers to the care staff, they were friendly, talked about Mum, and looked after her well. She was always kept clean and they took time when feeding her.
My mother was only there for 3-4 days. She was transported to the care home on a Monday, and was alert and aware of her surroundings, as told to me by the nurse on duty at the time. I saw her Tuesday, and she was almost completely unresponsive. Eyes closed. The only movement she made was to wipe her mouth after coughing up phlegm if I placed a tissue in her hand. Wednesday, bedridden but slightly more with it, she told me she had to wet herself because she couldn't make anyone hear her. I asked staff to provide a way for her to call for assistance. Thursday, I saw she had been given a box on the table beside her bed, which she couldn't see or reach. I found someone to help, who brought a cord to attach to the box with a button she could press with her thumb to call for assistance. She died later that evening. The bouquet my daughter sent from Canada, which arrived Tuesday, had been placed in a vase just hours before she died. People were kind but I felt their care was substandard.
My mother was very well looked after and happy at Firtree House. I cannot fault the excellent care by all the staff who treated my mother with dignity, good care and plenty of activities on hand. Her room was always kept clean and she enjoyed the meals at Firtree. Relatives were made to feel welcome. A big thank you to everyone at Firtree from the family.
My mum has been at Firtree House Nursing Home for two to three weeks now and has settled really well. She is much better cared for, cleaner, well-kept and well looked after. She is joining in activities and seems much happier all around. She has her glasses, dentures, looks clean and washed. The staff are great and very caring and have taken on some things I wanted going for Mum like washing her hair more regularly. Very happy.
Great care and very friendly staff.
Our mother was in the home from January until September when she peacefully passed away. The staff were outstanding, so professional and caring. The only downfall was we did have quite a few issues with the room and although these were brought to the management's notice, nothing was done until it was put in writing.
The guys at Firtree House Nursing Home made it such a loving and caring environment. All of her wants and needs were always met with a positive response. The facilities need a little bit of an update but I always found it satisfactory. There are a few people that work there that are a true credit to the home.
Mum was placed here to recover from a broken shoulder from hospital. She was reluctant to begin with but staff were really good with her and really lovely. Care was of a good standard. The enrichment provided was a lovely touch and helps with boredom. Communal areas are well looked after and appealing food was good and nutritional and plentiful.
We are so grateful for the care that our aunt received during her time at Firtree House. Every single member of staff that we met was kind, helpful and supportive. Nothing was ever too much trouble. During our aunt's final few days, not only did we appreciate the care given to her, but we were overwhelmed by the care and support given to us as well. Our grateful thanks to all concerned.
The home itself is scruffy. Needs a lick of paint and modernisation. However, the staff and auxiliary staff were amazing. Could not fault them, kind, caring and compassionate. They gave my mum dignity and respect.
The staff were very attentive and considerate to her needs at all times, and she was happy there.
My overall review is that Firtree House is 'home from home'. Excellent care and consideration. Plus a family vibe. Although my husband is not able to enjoy the vast amount of activities on offer he is always asked. Caring for the elderly and infirm is not an easy job. The frontline and administrative staff at Firtree is always 'onpoint'
Not having experienced a nursing home before and having heard awful reports of the media I am happy to say that it does not apply to Firtree. I found the staff to be kind thoughtful and caring in what is possibly a stressful thing at times not only caring about the residents but very thoughtful towards visitors which is really nice.
We were very lucky to have found Firtree House Nursing Home after seeing four other care homes back in the day. On our first visit to find a safe place for my partner, it was very obvious straight away it was a lovely home and I felt we were lucky to have found it for her. She is always looked after cheerfully and with much care. I wouldn't hesitate giving Firtree ten out of ten; smashing people and that's what it's all about.
Mum has been a resident for nearly a year. Right from my first visit, Firtree House Nursing Home felt a good fit, calm, friendly and homely. Mum is cared for by loving, skilful and caring staff. The whole team - management, nursing, catering, cleaning and everyone involved work so well together making Firtree House a home from home. Not only do they care for the residents but also they have been very supportive of me, making Mum's move so much easier. All in all, a loving and caring home, what more can one ask for?
