View Full Details of Miramar Care Home - Avery HealthcareWe researched and visited a considerable number of care homes before choosing Miramar as not our closest but the best. It is characterised by smiles and helpfulness with facilities like those of a good hotel. It is much appreciated by my wife. She agrees with this assessment. As a visitor, though a frequent one, it is difficult to choose between good and excellent below, especially without current comparison, value for money particularly so. The horrendous sums critically decimating life savings and meagre pensions inflict pain and worry though we know overheads are high in a criminally underfunded sector.
We have found in the last eighteen months a decline in overall satisfaction. My father has had issues with these on the whole have been dealt with. However, he has complained about rough treatment in the mornings and has said he is not woken for meals at some times. Overall, just needs a little attention to people in your care, so they feel better, other than just someone who is there.
My mom is approaching her third year at Miramar. She is generally happy and settled. The manager is excellent and overall the leadership and management is incredibly good. The home is clean and tidy at all times and I feel welcome when I visit. Mom has all she wants and is always very well supported having access to a GP when needed. The care plan is clear and thorough. The shining feature is the well-being activities which are varied and happen twice a day making my mum's life positive and purposeful. Whilst the menu and activities cannot please all the people all the time, generally the standard is good.
The care my mother has directly received has been good. My issue with the Miramar has been the loss of two gold necklaces from my mother. The first went missing in 2023 and the second in 2024. These were necklaces she never took off and I fear were taken from her. Her dementia makes her unaware of them being missing. The first was my father's wedding ring and therefore huge sentimental value.
Staff are friendly and concerned for residents' comfort and well-being. Lots of activities to engage most of the residents and interesting trips out. Beautiful gardens and lots of activity groups. The well-being team are lovely and always jolly. The cakes for tea time are exceptional. The carers are always happy t help. All are very welcoming.
On bthe whole, very content. My wife is well looked after and appears to have lost weight, given that she has more exercise and recovered her mobility rapidly following her accident prior to arriving at Miramar. If I have a quibble, I guess it would be that sometimes it appears that staff are not always as coordinatded with and others as they could be.
Whilst the service and activities were always good, since the introduction of the new manager the conditions, activities and seating arrangements have improved substantially, all the staff are very friendly and helpful. Most importantly Mum is very happy and settled in her new home. She arrived with mild dementia which has deteriorated and the help and love she receives is invaluable and ensures all her family are safe in the knowledge that she is in the right place and they do not need to worry. It is like a first-rate hotel but with great medical support and daily life enrichment events. So good!
I find it very comfortable. All the staff are helpful and kind. I find the food pretty good. We have lots of entertainment which is enjoyable.
My wife has been at Miramar Care Home since September 2023, with dementia. She has received excellent care from all the staff. The staff treat all residents with dignity and friendliness, and are so patient. The facilities are excellent and the activities team provide inclusive entertainment for all abilities. Over the last year, all the staff from all departments, have gone from strength to strength. Overall, I would say that Miramar is the premium care home in the area.
Mum has a very comfortable apartment with patio doors out onto the garden. This is very important to her. Activities are good regular and help to break up the day. Carers are polite encouraging and cheery. I have witnessed some entering mum's room without knocking, several times (as I'm there) - this is not acceptable. Most knock before entering. Mum has had a lot of trouble recently with unacceptable behaviour. This has been resolved.
Helpful and caring.
My mother has Alzheimer's and has excellent care at the Miramar. All the team have been amazing and very caring. I am always greeted with a smile and an update on Mum's health and activities. I am so happy with everyone and everything at the Miramar.
This was my husband's second stay in Miramar for 1 week of respite. He settled in a lot quicker this time as he's getting familiar with it. I find it very easy to visit him and come and go from the home. I feel very comfortable with how its laid out inside, lovely facilities. The staff are lovely and I know he's well taken care of. Thank you again Miramar.
My mother has stayed here twice a year for respite care serval times over the last few years, even before Covid and has always enjoyed her stay. The staff and management are very caring and help her with all her needs.
The care and treatment is good overall, in often testing circumstances/situations. I have been impressed by the range of activities available to residents and would be keen to see an increased number where possible. The trips are an important option and pleased to hear the variety will continue to be improved. The Miramar Care Home and its staff provide a caring and safe environment for the residents, providing confidence for the relatives.
I had a really nice stay and thought the staff were really good. I was well cared for and the food was really good. Also, I had a really nice trip out in the minibus to the garden centre on the Friday with a cup of tea there as well. Really enjoyed my stay.
Have issues with being informed when my father has been ill, communication throughout is poor. When calling by phone messages are not being relayed either to my father or staff. Room not cleaned regularly as discussed once a month. carpet in the main area has been stained for over a year. Not a good impression to any new guests etc. Activities are limited for those less able.
My mother moved to Miramar 6 months ago at the age of 92, previous to this she had lived independently in her own home so it was a significant change for her. Having looked at a number of care homes, the Miramar was by far the best, we were offered a choice of apartments and the process of moving her there was quick and efficient. The staff at all levels have been excellent, with a care plan being tailored to her needs, encouragement to join in the many activities, great food, and efficient cleaning and laundry services. The care team are excellent, treating her with kindness and dignity. Any health issues are attended to promptly and the family contacted/updated. Having an apartment with her own front door (and furnished with her own things) rather than just a bedroom certainly makes it feel must more like independent living than a care home but with all the benefits of having assistance available 24/7 if and when needed.
Overall a good and caring residential care facility. Good care is taken of my Mum. Very friendly staff, very attentive. Activity staff are very encouraging. Reception very kind and helpful. All caring and nursing staff are excellent.
Mum says she feels very comfortable and that the home is friendly. Mum feels her care is 'ok', very good. As her daughter, I feel she could do with more interaction. she is quite isolated in her room now that she is more disabled. She would benefit from some therapeutic interaction (music therapy) as she comes alive with music and singing. Possibly on a one-to-one basis or small group.
