View Full Details of St Luke's Hospital Nursing HomeMy cousin has been at St Luke's for four years and has been extremely happy to be there. She has been looked after very well indeed and has lacked nothing. Her room is comfortable and spacious and always warm. She fell and broke her hip recently and was back at St Luke's with a new hip within a couple of days followed by good sessions of physiotherapy. She has always been very complimentary about the food and the care that she has been given by the staff. Also as her attorney, I have to say that all communications that I have had with both Admin and Nursing staff have been dealt with in a timely and efficient manner. Without question, I would highly recommend St Luke's.
A second excellent week (the first was in 2023) recovering from a hip replacement. Kind and professional care and excellent daily physiotherapy enabled me to go home safely and to look after myself. Thank you.
We were overwhelmed by the love, care, and attention the Staff at St Luke's showed our relative. During his stay at St Luke's, my cousin was looked after by kind and attentive Nursing Staff who devoted their time and energy to ensuring he was kept as comfortable as possible. The patience of the staff is humbling and we have nothing but admiration for the whole Team - Matron, Nurses, Reception, and Cafe Staff. We salute you as you are doing a wonderful job! Thank you.
Since our beloved and most special Aunt was admitted to St Luke's in January 2021, she has received the most wonderful and amazing care, on all fronts. Nothing is ever too much trouble. The devotion of all staff never ceases. Lately, we have been in the process of setting up Video Calls with our aunt, which requires assistance from the team. What a difference this has made to our aunt, who can no longer hold a phone. Once more, the staff at St Luke's have shown that they will go above and beyond to care for their residents. Our aunt had always left instructions with us that St Luke's would be her absolute first choice for her care in later life if needed. This was certainly a good decision.
I had a total hip replacement. Went to St Luke's for 9 days of rehab. It was very useful as anticipated, as I was able to go home, able to move confidently around and up and down, a two-storey house. Why St Luke's: 1. Dispensing medications and injections at appropriate times is helpful. 2. Knowing that the nursing staff will come with a buzzer (24/7) reassuring, indeed essential during my early days of recovery. 3. Constant check-ins by Senior Nursing staff and Auxiliary Nurses were greatly appreciated. 4. The physiotherapy sessions proved very useful; I was attended by a very competent therapist; besides targeting my disabilities, it's also preparation for home, and hazards faced when out of hospital. 5. The cleaning staff need to be thanked. They always came into my room with courtesy. 6. Free car park for visitors. 7. The considered menu was very good, the red wine on Sunday was a special highlight. 8. The garden with its view from the Garden Room provides a proud space to bring visitors.
St Luke's was the ideal place to go for rehab after my knee replacement. The one-to-one physiotherapy exceeded expectations and the gym facilities were superb. All the staff were professional, friendly, calm, responsive and understanding. After only four days I was confident to go home having needed their respectful support less and less.
Mum had a lovely stay, I couldn't have been happier with her reaction. The staff were all wonderful. They seemed to come and go all the time making Mum feel busy. Everyone was so kind to her and it didn't feel as if she was alone for long periods of time. Good activities. However, unresolved items: - No access to dining facilities to meet residents. - No footrest. Mum's ankles were a bit swollen. Resolved items: - Dirty toilet. - No towels. - No soap. - TV channels. These weren't correct, Mum couldn't remember the channels. - No adequate lighting for reading. Had to bring angle poise. - Not enough pillows to sit up. Brought another in myself. - Tea didn't always come at 7 pm meaning Mum was without a drink from 5 to 9 some days. - Side night light is impossible to find the switch. Put a sticker on myself. - No instruction on how to use the shower. - Trolly too high to eat off. Suggest a staff checklist for new residents to ensure appropriate arrangements are there and room works for the patient on day one.
My best friend was admitted to St Luke's in December 2023 for end-of-life care, at the same time his mother was also taken into St Luke's from the hospital, St Luke's allowed them to be in the same room so they could be together for what time remained. The care, understanding and compassion shown to both of them, each with separate needs, was first class. As my friend was coming closer to the end we got his partner and daughter over from Thailand, my friend's mother died one month earlier. On the arrival of his family, St. Luke's allowed them to stay in the same room, with him, they also allowed them to get married both with a civil marriage and then one week later a Buddhist blessing. As St. Luke's became his home he asked on his passing if the funeral cortege could leave from there. This was not only allowed but supported by members of staff. I would like to thank all of St Luke's staff, from the cleaners, reception, nurses, and office staff. Thank you.
I spent a week at St Luke's following a total hip replacement. I thought that this would give me time to get through much of the shock of the operation and anaesthetic and to adjust to using crutches, etc, before going home. I am so glad that I did this. I was very well cared for by friendly and well-trained staff and was particularly grateful for the professionalism and friendly advice of the 'staff nurses', i.e. the senior nursing staff on duty. I was grateful too that the Matron looked in most days. Especially helpful was the physio team, who helped me enormously to gain confidence in walking, climbing stairs and learning the exercises. My abilities were assessed, and I was gently encouraged each day to do more so that I was well set up to return home and not make too many demands on my husband. Very many thanks, St Luke's.
My husband was admitted for rehab at St Luke’s following surgery to his hip. We were both impressed with the care, kindness and compassion he received during his stay. The staff were always professional and friendly to both patients and their relatives. I spent a lot of time visiting my husband and observed how well the staff interacted with other patients. The hospital felt homely, the food was good, ward and corridors kept clean and there were some nice little touches, including the offer of a glass of wine with Sunday lunch! The gym is an excellent facility with brilliant therapy staff. My husband received intensive physiotherapy each weekday, which has really helped to aid his recovery. The St Luke’s cafe is an added bonus, again with welcoming staff serving a varied menu. My husband and I were fortunate to spend an hour in the garden one Sunday afternoon, it was so tranquil and such a lovely addition for patients and their families to use. A very positive patient experience.
My father came to you in August 2022 having decided that he couldn’t manage at home by himself. We researched a number of homes but he was adamant that he went to St Luke’s, having been a temporary rehabilitation resident previously. He settled in very quickly and responded really well to the attentive and caring staff. He was always very sceptical about being a resident but was very quickly engaged in the numerous and varied events that the staff arranged for the residents. In all the time he was in the home the staff were brilliant, particularly when his health faded and he needed more intensive nursing care. The home is well-run, has lovely gardens and always appears clean and welcoming but the overriding memory will be the wonderful staff.
Kind nursing staff, very good physio but overall management very poor. It was very difficult to contact the nursing staff. We had to take my aunt for xrays in our car despite severe pain. Promised painkillers were not available on our return after a diagnosis of a fractured pelvis. On discharge, she was sent home unaccompanied in a taxi without medications and when the paperwork arrived later it was misleading. Visitors were not welcomed except for booked visits and had to wear masks. I have seen several nursing homes in my capacity as a doctor and would not recommend this one.
St Lukes is an oasis in the middle of Oxford. I have just spent 3-weeks as a patient there, nothing was too much trouble, smiley faces, well-trained staff and a tremendous team of matrons, nurses, trainees, physios, cooks, cleaners, everyone and everything to make my life easier. I highly recommend St Lukes's and cannot think of anywhere better to rest and recuperate after a hip replacement operation. A number of staff had been there for over 10-years, which is a testament to a happy and positive environment. St Lukes's has a winning formula, and I wish everyone there all the best for the future.
No one asks to be ill, but when we are, we are fortunate to find a bed and the wonderful care at such a private hospital as St Luke’s in Oxford. Over the years, I have stayed three times due to different illnesses. The multicultural staff are kind, efficient, well trained and observant. Their smiles are genuine, and their willingness to help is most comforting. There are many facilities to cater for all tastes (and ages!), a lovely scenic garden room and a beautiful garden to sit out in. Social meetings are held in the large lounge. Comfort for patients is a prime consideration. Doctor visits routinely, as do physios and hairdresser. Cooking is fine with varied menus. Car parking for your visitors is fine. So do consider St Luke’s if you or relatives need special care; you won’t regret it
