View Full Details of The Old Prebendal HouseStaff were pleasant and welcoming. Made us feel comfortable and safe. Food was excellent and to a great standard. Gardens were nice and welcoming. Very accommodating to our needs and issues we had.
My 87-year-old mother with advanced dementia has recently moved into the Old Prebendal after a 2-month stint in a London hospital where her condition deteriorated so badly she was given 6 weeks to live. My brother and I chose to place her in the care of the wonderful team here, in our minds to ensure a managed and peaceful death, so hopeless we felt of her condition. This beautiful, peaceful sanctuary with its excellent team has been a lifeline quite literally for our mum and us. Mum has been transformed physically under the care and compassion of everyone involved in her care. From being completely bed-bound, unable to eat and the indignity of double incontinence she has been slowly, carefully and patiently encouraged to accept the personal care needed to maintain hygiene, health and dignity and to accept with gentle encouragement the physio needed to get her back in her feet. The fantastic food offering has her eating so well she gained half a stone in 4 weeks. Highly recommend.
We took a lot of trouble to find the best nursing home for our cousin, to spend his last few months. Sadly, as it transpired he didn't survive long enough to enjoy all that was on offer to residents. All the staff were very caring and helped him during his last days. We too, were grateful for their sensitivity and support.
Old Prebendal House has been a great place for my dad. They have great balance between letting him be independent with the things he can still do, while keeping him safe by recognising when he needs support. The food is excellent. Dad was only able to eat puréed food at home, but now enjoys 3 good normal meals a day. We have even been able to arrange family gatherings at the house for Christmas and Birthday celebrations with a stroll in the surrounding grounds.
I had a wonderful room with a kitchen and lounge area that then led to a good-sized bedroom with an ensuite shower and bathroom area. The towels were changed every day. I had most meals in my room, but I did go down to lunch with the other residents who were all very friendly and welcoming. The staff were are excellent, nothing was too much trouble, they helped wash me and dress me and told me to ring my bell anytime I needed them. We could have wine with our meals, lunch and tea time, white red or rose. Great place to stay to get over a very big operation on my right shoulder. I was so much stronger after my stay there. I was able to come home and be looked after by my family. All the staff were excellent including the handyman. We also had bingo raffles and a sing-a-long with one of the members of staff so all in all a very pleasant experience. A big thank you to everyone there and for making my stay such a good time. Thanks again.
My brother has been in Old Prebendal for over a year now and he is being cared for by wonderful caring staff. The facilities are amazing, he often says it’s a wonderful hotel. I visit often and share his days and all the excellent things he does every day from exercise classes to afternoon teas in the beautiful garden, there is something for everyone who resides at Old Prebendal. I am so happy that my brother is in such good hands. Thank you everyone.
My husband and I recently spent sixteen days at The Old Prebendal House care home, Ascot-under-Wychwood, while my husband was recuperating from a replacement hip operation. He recovered rapidly mainly because of the professionalism, care, attention, kindness and friendliness of all the staff. The beauty of the building and the tranquil surroundings also made it the perfect place to recover.
The Old Prebendal House has been my mother's home for over five years and it felt like a home rather than a care home. Throughout this time, she has been treated with the utmost care, love and compassion. As she became frailer, we were included in the Old Prebendal family and realised just what a special place this is. Nothing was too much trouble and it was an absolute privilege to watch these wonderful carers in action. They were so gentle and patient and knew just what was needed without being asked. Thank you so much for caring for Mum and the family with such kindness.
Wonderful care for my mother, in her final weeks. She was treated with compassion and dignity and the staff are genuinely caring and attentive with qualified nursing staff on hand day and night. Nothing was too much trouble for them. When we visited, we were always welcomed with open arms and made to feel at home. After a difficult few months and a brief disastrous experience at another nursing home, my mother finally found a home where she could relax in comfort, confident that all the care she needed was on-hand. Her room was fresh, bright and beautifully decorated and furnished with a modern clean bathroom. The home is housed in a historic and characterful Cotswold stone building in a quiet traditional Cotswold village. It has a homely rather than institutional feel and is surrounded by delightful, well-tended gardens with fountains, benches and terraces for residents to enjoy. We couldn't recommend The Old Prebendal House and its staff more highly.
I am the daughter of a current resident. My family and I have been bowled over by the wonderful quality of care, both physical and emotional that has been provided by the exceptional staff at Prebendal. My Mum arrived at the Home particularly ill, infirm and in pain and everyone immediately had her best interests at heart and did their utmost to keep her happy, clean and comfortable. Caring and nursing is a really tough job and these people join as one happy professional team to provide a peaceful, clean, safe, homely environment and the very best for their residents. They really do all care and this is demonstrated daily. Caring cannot be taught, it is from within and the consistently helpful Management have chosen their team well. The environment is truly stunning and I’m hoping that now my Mum is hopefully on the mend she will be able to enjoy the beautifully kept gardens and communal areas more often. It is always such a pleasure to visit her, we are made so welcome.
I would like to write this review after being welcomed into this care home for 2 days of training with staff and the Director of Care. I was given breakfast and lunch and as a travelling trainer, I visit a large amount of care homes up and down the country. I have never in all my years of experience been to such a clean and welcoming establishment. Every single member of staff, regardless of their job role, is totally committed to giving 110% of their knowledge, emotions and skill to each and every resident and visitor alike. The building itself is kept to what I can only describe as a 5-star standard, impeccable. The catering and hospitality staff are so skilled in their roles. Honestly, the food was like eating in a restaurant. I would have paid good money to eat the food in any hotel or eatery it was absolutely beautiful. I think the highest compliment I can give is that I would happily and very confidently recommend my own mother lives in this home, when the time comes.
The Old Prebendal is the second care home my father has lived in. He is a Type 1 diabetic, in his 80's and suffering from dementia. The previous home was unable to manage his diabetic needs and he had to leave after being admitted to hospital, as a result. His medical needs are very very complex and the Old Prebendal have and are managing them exceptionally well. Further to this, they provide such a stimulating and wonderful environment which gives me so much comfort and reassurance as to his wellbeing, both physical and emotional. I can say he is genuinely happy to be there. The activities are always so varied and plentiful and if it is not a drinks reception outside, BBQ or hosting part a regional Art Week, there will be something else fun and original. They clearly have a genuine respect for their residents and are always welcoming and professional when myself and my young family visit. I can not think of a better place for my father to be!
This refurbished, beautiful old converted Monastery set in stunning grounds is an exceptionally atmospheric Care Home and my Mother regards it as “her home” and is extremely happy to be living there. The dedicated staff are always polite, courteous and work hard to maintain high standards of personalised care. There is a comprehensive communication policy set in place to ensure a dialogue between the caregivers and relatives. This builds confidence and trust in the knowledge that any issues that arise are acknowledged and hopefully acted upon. Such is my satisfaction, I would not want my Mother to be anywhere else.
First impressions of the location and building are overwhelming. Every care home should be like this. It's like a home from home - clean, no smells, calm and tranquil. You have peace of mind knowing your loved one is well looked after in every way possible. Nothing is ever too much trouble to accommodate each individual's needs. Would I stay here? Yes.
My relative spent his last few years at Prebendal House. Covid was obviously the worst time to have someone in care but facilitated regular calls made the whole thing more bearable. The dedication of the staff was beyond excellent. Sadly, no one from the family was there when my uncle passed. The knowledge that he wasn't alone and was with people he knew and who stayed with him during that moment, really offers a huge comfort to us. What was really great is that initially, he was living in a spacious independent flat on the premises and was able to move into full-time care as his condition worsened. This transition was simple and not a shock to him. I really feel this helped his quality of life in his last few months. Prebendal is such a beautiful, restful place. It is idyllic in many ways, not just in the setting but their staff really go above and beyond.
The difficult decision to move my formerly independent 98-year-old mother into a care home during a Covid pandemic was taken out of necessity and with much apprehension. Walking into Old Prebendal House set my mind at rest. It is a beautiful Cotswold building set in lovely gardens, but it was the warm reception and attitude of the staff that most impressed me. The Director of Care is obviously passionate about providing a quality of care that puts the needs of residents first and foremost. My mother moved into a beautiful room overlooking a pretty courtyard and the kindness, care and consideration of all the staff made her feel at home remarkably quickly. With their professional support, she has progressed from being unable to get out of bed unassisted, to walking to a regular exercise class. I cannot thank the staff enough for creating such a friendly, supportive and homely atmosphere and to know my mother is safe and cared for.
Old Prebendal House is a beautiful home, full of atmosphere and character with lovely gardens. The staff are extremely caring and work together wonderfully as a team. I recommend this great establishment.
This is a beautiful calm and welcoming care home. The Management and staff are all very kind and helpful. They have been very attentive to my parents-in-law at a difficult time. The building itself has a lot of character and has been recently refurbished and is set in charming gardens. I highly recommend it.
I could not wish for a better care home for my mother and father. The surroundings are idyllic, and the care staff are very kind and professional. When my father arrived just a few weeks ago after being discharged from hospital with spinal infection, he was extraordinarily thin and barely mobile, spending most of his day in bed. In the short time he has been at the Old Prebendal house, he has made a remarkable improvement: he has regained his appetite and good spirits and can walk on his own with a zimmer frame. Thank you!
In these difficult Covid times, the staff have always let us know how my aunt is and if anything amiss has happened. We have been contacted on a regular basis and know she is in good care and well looked after. The staff are always keen to help when we are having to remotely manage her care from abroad and never impatient when dealing with long-distance phone calls. It is extremely comforting to know she is in good hands.
