View Full Details of Westgate HouseI came to this home for respite. Staff are good, very helpful. I like this place.
My mother went to Westgate House in November 2023 and she died in July 2024. From her first day, she was treated with dignity and respect. All family and friends were made to feel welcome. There was a lovely atmosphere when you walked in. All the staff were friendly, professional and approachable. Choosing a care home for a loved one is a very difficult decision, there will never be any regrets in going to Westgate. My dad was happy with the care and appreciated how caring the staff were not just to my mum but to him too. Westgate felt like a home, it was warm and friendly and the activities were fabulous. It is a very well-run home with exceptional staff and very good management.
When I arrived in May this year, I didn't want to be here, however I am settled in now. I've made friends here, I'm very settled now comfortably and I consider Westgate House as my home. I really enjoy the activities and the soicable side this home offers, especially the quizzes. The staff here are just so good, everyone is so helpful and kind.
My very close friend has dementia and is unable to live safely at home, independently. Although she has carers in her own home, she needed full-time care in order to carry out work at her house, and whilst I was on holiday. As a nurse, I have extremely high standards of care and was looking for the same for my friend. I did my research on local care homes and decided that Westgate was the one I would visit first. From the onset, everyone who I have come in contact with has been friendly and reassuring to both myself and my friend. We had several visits and opted for three weeks of respite. The care that was delivered to my friend during these 3 weeks was amazing. They were kind and caring and tended to her every need. For someone who is highly active and eats little, she put on weight in Westgate and thought she was staying in a top hotel. Whenever I called, I was updated on the different activities. Westgate will be our first choice when my friend requires full-time care.
We relocated my sister to be nearer me. We are delighted to have found Westgate and the manager. A clean, bright home with a friendly and warm feel to it. Food is tasty and well-balanced. I could recommend Westgate to anyone.
My sister has been in Westgate House for some time. The care she has been given is excellent and the staff are wonderful. The manager and her admin team are always very courteous and helpful. I can highly recommend this care home.
My father was cared for by the excellent team at Westgate House for the last three months of his life. He was very well looked after, all his needs were met and he wanted for nothing. Towards the end of his life, when he was getting very frail; the staff understood this and showed a great deal of compassion. I was not there when he passed away but was very comforted to know that one of the nurses held his hand and gave him words of comfort - this was very important to me, and I will be forever grateful. I can highly recommend this care home; it is well run, and the staff really care, it becomes a family.
My mother has been a resident of Westgate House for almost 5 years. In that time the staff have pretty much remained the same which I take as a real positive in providing consistent care for my mother and as her dementia has progressed her familiarity with the staff provides huge reassurance and comfort to her. The staff are hugely caring and practical, they adapt their care to the individual and get to know what each resident likes and dislikes and what keeps them calm and peaceful if applicable. She enjoys the activities they organise especially anything music-related. I would highly recommend Westgate House as a genuinely caring home with tremendous staff who work well as a team. And I would say it's not a brand new building like others locally but it's all about the people and the atmosphere and the most important person to consider is the resident, I am confident Mum is in the best possible place.
My sister moved into Westgate House on 6th April 2023, was very upset about having to leave her home, but now months on, she has made wonderful friends and also knows she is safe and well cared for by all at Westgate House. Westgate House is a wonderful home and I am now content and happy, she is safe and well. Thank you.
When I first visited Westgate, the care and compassion that the staff showed to residents was obvious. After an extended hospital stay, Mum initially found it difficult to settle. The staff were amazingly patient in the way they helped her. Westgate staff are wonderful in understanding the whole process that the elderly go through, when their independence is reduced, and were able to reassure me that any guilty feelings I may have had in placing Mum in a care home were only natural. Westgate cares not only for the residents but their families too. I was also kept informed immediately of any health changes. At the end of Mum’s life, the staff could not have been kinder – the family were able to spend many hours with her. The staff always did whatever they could to ensure she was as comfortable as possible in those last few weeks. I remain very grateful to everyone who looked after Mum and can highly recommend this lovely care home.
Our mother spent a short time at Westgate House Care Home in Wallingford. During this time everyone was so helpful and we were impressed with the level of kindness and first class service. At the annual BBQ the mingling of family, friends, residents, and staff in the casual, jovial atmosphere of a BBQ served to foster a strong feeling of community which is something we all highly appreciate. Westgate House is a wonderful place for residents to live in, and for us to visit.
Westgate House was recommended to me by friends who had relatives in residence. They provided very positive comments. When it came to my wife going into a care home I visited Westgate House for myself. My first impressions were very good, seeing a good number of carers, all of whom were local people and had worked there for a long time. The level of care that my wife received was amazing. She was welcomed, settled in and there was much attention to detail in ensuring she was comfortable and content. As well as looking after my wife, I felt there was much care for me as well. The staff were always ready to chat and answer questions. There was never any sense of rush. I was kept informed of her condition, especially in the last week of her life. In the time that she was in residence we were both very well supported.
Our beloved mother spent the last 8 years at Westgate House Care Home in Wallingford. During that time the staff knew her well, we felt confident the home was the right choice for her. The last 6 years she was in Nightingale's ward, the care she received was exceptional, she was bedbound and not able to do anything for herself, she was cared for with dignity and respect. At the end of her life, the staff could not have been kinder, her last days were spent with voices and care given by familiar staff who met her many years prior, again we knew she was in the right place because they clearly and obviously cared a lot about her. As a family, we visited our mother a great deal and observed that the staff always did whatever they could to ensure she was as comfortable and happy as possible in these last years of her life. We remain very grateful to everyone who looked after her and can highly recommend this welcoming care home, which absolutely did the best possible for our mother.
My mum spent 19 months in Westgate House, a distressing time for our family. The staff at Westgate made it easier for us from the beginning. My mum's dignity was always maintained, she always looks lovely and her room was clean and tidy. They really took time to get to know my mum despite her communication problems, they asked us about her likes and dislikes and let her wander around the unit safely without distressing her by trying to stop her. Communication was always good for us, any email queries were answered promptly by the manager and we would get immediate phone calls for any changes or health problems that occurred. My dad was welcomed as a regular visitor, always by a friendly face and often joined Mum for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake in the afternoon. He was made to feel part of the Westgate family. I cannot recommend Westgate House and the team of staff highly enough.
I can't thank the home enough for the professional care given by the staff to our mum. Mum passed away on the 4th of September and the staff and management were absolutely amazing, so supportive right to the end. Mum was a tricky resident and her nearly two years at the home were tough at times due to going into the home at the height of Covid. Thanks again.
My mum recently moved to Westgate House, she has settled in really well; all down to the excellent support provided by the care and management team. Throughout the process of applying for a place and moving in, she and our family were given every assistance, nothing was too much trouble. Her room is light, bright and airy with ensuite facilities. The communal areas are excellent too and allow residents and visitors to socialise together. Medical support, prescriptions and regular GP visits are all easily accessible. As a family, we are content that Mum is treated with dignity and respect and has the help she needs in a safe and caring environment.
All the staff were very friendly and made Mum feel at home. She never felt lonely and enjoyed social activities. My husband and I shared a meal downstairs with her once a week - pre-Covid, and were made welcome by everyone. I was impressed by the purpose-built layout of the building, which was important as Mum was blind, and by the overall cleanliness. She also enjoyed having a hairdresser.
Thank you for being so helpful and understanding, particularly the way you have looked after not only my wife, but me too.
Brilliant! Everyone is very friendly and the home is clean and tidy.
I have only recently been in to see Mum the last four weeks and have been impressed with what I have seen so far. The staff I have met have all been polite and helpful.
