View Full Details of Coombe Dingle Nursing HomeThe staff at Coombe Dingle (calling out nurse one staff member esp) are very friendly and warm, and while it may not be the plushest or most luxurious home, the residents do not need a 5 star hotel given their conditions, they need friendly support and they get that from the Coombe Dingle environment. I always found the staff to be attentive, friendly, patient and warm and I did not have any doubt whatsoever that my mum was being looked after by people who actually cared. My mum passed away having been at the home for 11 months and the nurse was genuinely upsent when he told me, and the news was passed on compassionately and sensitively. During her stay the food looked perfectly appropriate, mum was clean and tidy and well cared for, with an abundance of attentive staff - compare and contrast to the NHS which just left her in a bed with zero attention while nurses spent all their time in the station or on computers. I was happy with the care mum received and recommend Coombe Dingle.
Based on our experience, the care provided at this nursing home did not meet the standards we had hoped for. My relative experienced several challenges, including difficulties maintaining her weight and a lack of sufficient mental stimulation. The cleanliness of her living space and the handling of her personal belongings also fell short of expectations. Despite raising concerns about her comfort and mobility needs, these were not always addressed in a way that felt attentive or effective. Overall, I cannot recommend this facility for those seeking a high standard of care for their loved ones.
My sister was a Resident at Coombe Dingle, and was very happy there even though it was for a short time. The manager and staff could not do enough for her and looked after her very well. They also made relatives very welcome and kept you up to date with my sister's care. I would recommend the home to anyone looking for one.
I'm am writing to express my thanks for the care my husband has received since he has been a resident at Coombe Dingle. The staff have been absolutely fantastic and are always polite and friendly and have gone above and beyond to meet his needs. I feel he is treated with care and compassion and that his individual needs and preferences have been taken into account by actions such as ensuring that he is able to listen to music that he enjoys. I feel I have been kept informed and updated with any changes made. Thank you so much, your care has made such a difference.
My Mum was a resident at Coombe Dingle for nearly 4 years and the staff has been a pleasure to deal with throughout. There was always a very sensible and practical approach to the care on offer and as my Mum's illness progressed until her death, the head nurses in particular were very approachable and helpful in updating me about my Mum's health and her care. In particular, I am very grateful for the honesty of the staff nurse about my Mum's imminent end, which greatly helped prepare me for the inevitable. The home has been very welcoming throughout, especially as they had to deal with the additional complications Covid-19 threw at them during this period. I always knew my Mum was being well cared for, which was a great relief, and it is a testament to the good care she received that she lived for as long as she did. Thank you for all you have done.
My Husband; He was taken from a private nursing home to Coombe Dingle, Caterham in February 2024 with advanced stages of Alzheimer's Disease. From February until his death on the 27th of May, he has been cared for with great sensitivity, compassion, and expertise by the staff at Coombe Dingle. We have been most impressed by their manner and warmth. There was always a smile on our arrival to visit my husband, (which was every other day) and an update on his health. It was not always easy for the staff in their personal care routine, owing to the need for the larger area within to operate and I hope, in time, this could be improved upon. They coped admirably though. This care home is most efficiently run by the manager and her staff. Good relationships all around are clearly visible and I have no hesitation to recommend Coombe Dingle to any prospective relative seeking a welcome home for their loved ones, who are nearing the end of their lives.
What a wonderful caring home for my father-in-law. Our only wish is that we found them sooner. The staff is so happy in their work and it shows. The home manager is a great leader with such compassion and kind words. Would highly recommend it.
My husband resided here for two years until his death in March. The care he received was excellent. I was always made welcome and could see he was being looked after especially when he became less mobile and was confined to bed.
My mum needed end-of-life care and after looking at other nursing homes in our area, my sister and I decided that Coombe Dingle would be perfect. The house has a very nostalgic feel to it. The decor and some of the equipment took us back to childhood, but everything worked perfectly and we knew that our mum would have loved it too. But What made our decision so easy was the manager and her staff. They just showed compassion and kindness, which we felt straight away. The interaction between them all wasn’t forced or for show, you could clearly see This is how they worked. Our mum was quickly transferred from hospital to the home and against all odds, she was there for a week before she passed. We visited her throughout the day at any time, and they always welcomed us. My mum was always comfortable and given the dignity she deserved. We will be forever grateful to this lovely home and the amazing staff for being so kind at such a sad time. Thank you, Coombe Dingle.
Would not hesitate to recommend this loving and professional care home. My mum was looked after with dignity and warmth by fantastic staff. She had a very nice room which she enjoyed being in. Everyone from the manager to the handyman went out of their way to look after all the guests. They provide fun and companionship as well as great meals. I was concerned about putting mum into a home but should not have worried. Coombe Dingle gave mum better care than I could have provided. Special thanks to mum's activities coordinator. I feel so glad that mum had a very special time there with very special staff. Every one of them ..... thank you so very much.
This was the only occasion of a parent having to go to a care home. Coombe Dingle is in a quiet part of Caterham Surrey and looked very pleasant from the outside. We got a very warm welcome when first visiting my mother, the staff were very pleasant and helpful showing us to Mum's room which was very pleasant and warm as Mum really felt the cold, she was very comfortable and liked the staff and enjoyed the meals and sweets offered, she had a tv to see her favourite programmes, the staff would check on her many times during the day and make sure she was washed and ready for bed and had her nightcap. The staff were very professional, helpful and would do anything we asked them to do. The staff nurse was extremely helpful and kept us informed on how Mum was and fully explained Mum's condition and medications as they were given and what they were for. The manager was extremely helpful and very kind during Mom's stay, we couldn't have wished to meet anyone nicer. We recommend 100%
I found the carers in Coombe Dingle very caring and compassionate, especially in Mum's last hours. I appreciate they were there till the end for my mother and she did not end up alone in her death, they did everything they could to keep her comfortable and I will always feel indebted to the staff. Thank you so much for looking after my mother.
The rooms were adequate, but a bit tired and dated. Unfortunately, over the years, we did experience missing items of clothing and bedding (that had been named), and often found other people's clothing in his wardrobe. However, the staff and management were always cheerful, helpful and supportive. The staff were professional and treated residents with dignity and respect. Their communication and updates about Dad were good, especially towards the end. Thank you for your hard work and care.
Dad went into Coombe Dingle following hospital when I agreed I didn’t have the experience to continue to care for his increasingly challenging needs. He took a while to settle, but thanks to the manager and staff he was comfortable, clean and safe during his 2 1/2 years there. The nurses and carers go above and beyond their duties and always treated Dad with respect and kindness. I was always kept up to date with everything and, at the end, all the staff were wonderful with both Dad and us.
My dad experienced exceptional care at Coombe Dingle. The staff have gone out of their way to look after him and cater for his love of cricket, even getting him up early to watch the test match with other residents.
Mum had to move into Coombe Dingle when her dementia progressed rapidly, and she needed specialist care. I was so grateful that a place did become available when she needed it, and the manager supported and encouraged me as we waited. Mum continued to deteriorate during her seven months in the home, but all the staff worked tirelessly to help her and kept me informed at every step of the journey. All the staff were so kind, cheerful, and positive with Mum and with me as I visited. They were always respectful and dealt with her extreme needs in a dignified and loving way. In mum's final few weeks, staff members took turns to be with her when I couldn't be and read to her or played her favourite music. I am so grateful for their care and support at such a difficult time.
My mother was admitted to Coombe Dingle Nursing Home following discharge from hospital and inability to be cared for at home any longer. I was nervous as I wasn’t sure how she’d adjust. I needn’t have worried. Soon after arrival, we spoke by phone and she told me how lovely all the nurses were. At the time of her admittance Covid rules were in place so I was unable to visit but able to call as much as required. I also got her a mobile phone so she could stay in touch. Sadly Mum remained in care for longer than expected and it was heartbreaking to see her deteriorate. However, the nurses were always so cheerful and loving. She was always thrilled to see them and blew kisses to them all the time. Even when communication with me was difficult. To the very end, she’d get pleasure from holding their hands and laughing with them. Mum passed on 22nd September after over two years in their care. Coombe Dingle are lovely and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody.
The rooms are not the best but are reasonable. With regard to the staff and management, I cannot speak highly enough of their commitment and the professional way they treat residents, they work tirelessly and are always cheerful and willing to help where ever they can. I cannot praise them enough.
My husband was desperately unhappy at the nursing home. Our visits to him were frequent and he always said he was not happy being there. Many items of his clothing went missing including eight pairs of brand new socks which he never wore. A blue striped long-sleeved shirt, an military green brand new sweater which he wore a couple of times, and a book written by his best friend. I spoke to the manager and nurse several times and they simply said they did not know what had happened to all these items. I am not happy at all. An apology is not good enough. There is a lack of care of resident's personal property that needs to be addressed.
My wife stayed in Coombe Dingle Home for 5.5 years. Of the 5.5 years, the Nursing Home looked after her very well. She always had clean clothes on and the Nursing Home was spotless. The staff were well trained in dementia care under the leadership of the owner and the manager and always very caring and friendly. They kept daily records at all times. I would often ask to see the latest records of my wife’s health. The food also was very good. Management was excellent, especially when my wife was dying, which was over many days. The Head Nurse was very supportive together with all the nursing staff. They offered me a bed for the night and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend Coombe Dingle Nursing Home.
