View Full Details of Kings Lodge Care CentreWe live in Western Canada and are only able to visit the centre rarely. This was the first visit in 2 1/4 years. We asked questions about my Mother's care and were given a full run down of all the issues and her day-to-day life. This was very thoroughly and professionally done.
My dad has recently been in Respite Care at Kings Lodge. I have found the staff to be very helpful at what has been a very stressful and worrying time. Both the Manager, Assistant Manager and other members of staff have responded to our concerns in a timely manner. Dad has had to return to hospital and is awaiting a permanent placement. I was struck by the warmth, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff.
The staff at Kings Lodge are very welcoming and friendly and my mother is always happy when I visit her. The activities coordinator organises a great programme of interesting and varied activities during the week, including the book club and various arts and crafts, as well as regular visits by singers and entertainers. The food is always very good. It is reassuring to know that there are nurses available at all times and they are always very helpful. Any queries or requests that I or my family have are dealt with swiftly by the manager and his team. Thank you!
I visited a resident with another friend. We were greeted warmly by the receptionist and taken to the lounge where some of the residents were sitting and others were playing a game with one of the carers. We were given armchairs (which were moved for us) so we could sit and chat with our elderly friend. We were even given a cup of tea along with the residents! I was very impressed with the welcoming and friendliness of the staff and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kings Lodge Care Centre.
Our dear friend sadly passed in December 2023 whilst in Kings Lodge Care Home. We cannot speak highly enough about the care and support from every member of staff, medical and auxiliary. Their culture of care is second to none. From the moment our friend arrived, he was treated with dignity, respect and love. This was equally extended to ourselves as friends and family. The manager of this home and his staff demonstrate a standard that others should aspire to.
My dad spent the last 2 months at Kings Lodge Care Centre, initially for a short period of nursing care, but sadly for what became end-of-life care. I cannot speak highly enough of Kings Lodge. When he was transferred from the hospital we were welcomed as a family. For example, I was asked if I had any other siblings and if my dad had grandchildren. My confused father, who was struggling to communicate, immediately had people around him using our names and building familiarity and comfort. My mum was welcomed by name when she visited, and both of my parents have been given the gift of dignity, spending the best quality time possible in the circumstances. Early this morning, my dad quietly slipped away. Kings Lodge called me first to check if my mum was on her own. This was done with genuine thought and care. I want to name individuals, but fear forgetting someone key, so for this reason I will stick to team Kings Lodge who without exception, have supported and cared for my dad, and our family, through such a difficult time.
My husband was admitted to Kings Lodge from hospital on 11 December suffering from Lewy Body Dementia. We did not know that he had been discharged with a chest infection. Unfortunately he succumbed to the infection and received end of life care over the following five days. From the time he entered the building he was surrounded by love, the care given was exceptional even though the staff did not have the opportunity to get to know him. He was treated with respect. The care, love and support was extended to us (family and friends) so we never felt isolated. Whether it was the cleaner/maintenance man, the laundry lady, the lady on reception, they all asked how my husband was. We had many hugs from all the carers who were always smiling. Everyone gave us so much support through a difficult time. Apologies that I can’t remember all the staff names! Thank you so much for everything. You all deserve medals.
Having been to another care home in the same group for respite care, I decided to move Mum to a home closer to where I live. I looked at several others but I liked the 'feel' of Kings Lodge and I have not been disappointed. It is not an easy transition to move permanently into a home, but the attitude of the team certainly helped. Mum's room has recently been redecorated and with a view of the bird table and squirrels plus her many pots of plants, that has made her feel at home. She is not a natural mixer and therefore does not regularly join in with the social events, but when she does, she enjoys herself. The building is modern with great outside space although the main social room is a little small. The staff are all lovely, and it has been nice getting to know many of them. They do genuinely seem to care about the residents. Where I have had some issues, the management has been responsive. I am very pleased with our decision and most importantly, Mum seems to be happy!
I was impressed when I first visited Kings Lodge. The first thing that struck me was the friendliness and cleanliness of the staff. They appeared to be proud of what they did and who and where they were. Mum's room was recently decorated. It is on the ground floor looking out onto the courtyard, so it is airy and has access outside. The grounds are lovely. Mum sometimes says she doesn't like the food offered, but in general she is happy. The staff are kind and attentive. She has made some new friends and she gets on well with the staff. On her birthday, I had wanted to give her a small birthday tea for her and some friends, but I was out of action. When I asked the manager if they could do something, they stepped up and provided the food and cake. Mum and her friends had a wonderful time. Nowhere is perfect, but I would have no hesitation in recommending Kings Lodge to others. The care is excellent, the staff professional and friendly and it is excellent value for money.
Food was dreadful - given small bowl of rice as a meal twice, told nothing else as the chef had gone home and shops were shut as a Sunday. TV, no remote for 1 and a half weeks. Staff kept promising would be sorted out, unable to change channel (eventually cleaner sorted it out). One day Dad had no dinner so I went out to get him food and when I returned 3 members of staff having shouting match in front of myself, daughter and a resident, even another member of staff was embarrassed. Management said all was not acceptable but continued to happen and nothing done about it. Would not leave them in charge of a dog, let alone a family member.
The care my wife received at Kings Lodge I can only describe as first class. The staff and management were always understanding, caring and patient. Thank you very much.
Kings Lodge Care Centre looked after my mother and father after their discharge from hospital. The care they received was exemplary and I would like to thank each and every member of staff. Thoroughly recommend the care home.
The staff are all very caring and friendly and know my sister well. In particular, the relatively new manager is approachable and working hard to provide the best standards possible and the well-being coordinator is outstanding and treats the residents as family. I was overwhelmed by the thought that went into the gift given to my sister at Christmas - it was so thoughtful and personal. Current guidelines mean we no longer have to wear a face mask when visiting our loved ones which is so much better and we have the freedom to visit whenever we like. The hallways are currently undergoing a facelift which is definitely making it look smarter. Some of the chairs are a little tired looking but I appreciate that they take a lot of wear and tear. I cannot comment on the food apart from it smells tasty when I visit at lunchtime. All in all, this may not be a luxury London hotel, but we selected it for the family feel it provides and we have not been disappointed - I would definitely recommend.
Pleased at first with care. Staff were attentive when requested but I often found my father with food all down him. Clothes went missing and other resident clothing was often in his cupboard. He lost over two stone as he was left to feed himself. Mattress on the floor in case he fell out of bed, no bed rails! Lack of personal hygiene, teeth never cleaned, etc. The home seems very understaffed. We didn't realise the failings until we moved him elsewhere where he received amazing care.
My friend has lived at Kings Lodge for almost a year and over the last 12 months my experiences have been mixed. Over the summer period on my visits, I saw often the manager - she was always around to talk to, she is a positive credit to the team and was aways polite and answered any concerns I raised. Which hasn't always been the case. I hope she stays. Previous managers and team leaders need to follow in her leadership. The activities coordinator is amazing, she always makes the residents smile, is full of energy and makes time for every resident. She also makes time to talk to all visitors to the home and is always interested in what everyone says and remembers you. Always happened in the past. The home feels more welcoming and it is a nice place to be. I really enjoy visiting and have recently joined in a few quizzes in the lounge. The new chef to the team is making wonderful food and my friend has commented on how they are enjoying lunches, it's great to see her enjoy food.
I was made to feel really welcome and joined in with singing and dancing. The two hours I spent were really good fun. The staff were fantastic, food very good. The singer was able to get most people motivated.
Kings Lodge is a friendly and welcoming home and my mother is well cared for and content. The staff are always kind and friendly and particularly the member of staff who works hard to get to know all the residents and organise enjoyable activities for them. Overall, I am happy that my mother has a pleasant place to live. Thank you.
I feel very well looked after at Kings Lodge, the staff are very kind and helpful. The manager is very caring and supportive, nothing is too much for her. The food is very nice, the environment is well cleaned. I feel happy living here and I will recommend King's Lodge to my friends and family.
Very kind and helpful. He is kept very clean and the food not too bad. Staff are very nice and helpful.
My sister moved into Kings Lodge at the end of 2021. The standard of care, and attention to her needs, has been exceptional. The staff team are amazing and it seems that nothing is too much trouble for them. The premises are very well maintained, and to a high standard. My sister says the food is excellent, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy.
