View Full Details of Barons Down Nursing HomeMy wife has been a resident at Barons Down since May 24. It is well run with caring staff. There are always staff on duty to deal with situations My wife has multiple needs dementia (at times difficult) incontinence unable to walk or help herself in any way.
Lovely friendly home and the activity programme is first class, always something happening for the residents.
The whole team at Barons Down have a terrific attitude to caring and friendliness. You never enter without having several staff members wishing you a good morning. The nursing team are exceptional with the care given to my father - always chatting to him and making him feel at home.
Mum spent the last year of her life being cared for at Barons Down Nursing Home. I will be forever grateful for the kindness, care and dignity that she experienced here. The staff went out of their way to get to know Mum and our family and as regular visitors, my brother and I were always made to feel very welcome and involved in her care.
My wife has been in Barons Down Nursing Home for five months. In that time, my wife's mental and physical condition has improved greatly, in part thanks to the wonderful care staff. She is now engaging in the various activities and happily interacts with staff and residents, something she was not able to do when she first arrived. She is very happy there and we are all very impressed with Barons Down.
Excellent, no problems.
Staff always respond well to requests and concerns. My sister-in-law is well cared for and she can have very up and down days. Particularly pleased with the activities coordinator - she always makes the effort to include my sister-in-law even if they have to bring the activity to her room. The manager is very approachable. The nurse in charge of my sister-in-law’s care, together with the GP's weekly visit, ensures that health matters are addressed. I do think staff in this home do try hard to meet their residents’ needs.
My mother has been a resident here for approximately two months. I was concerned at first about how she would settle as she has advanced dementia, but the help and care given to my mum have been amazing and made her very happy.
The care from all staff was excellent at all times. Room was overall adequate although marks on the ceiling were not painted for many months. The view was ver pleasant overlooking the garden and bright and airy.
Our mother spent the last couple of years of her life here. She had a bright, spacious room and a lovely view. She could have lots of her favourite things around her. She chose not to join in any activities as she had her own interests and enjoyed the tv provided. The kindness and friendliness of the staff meant that Mum was very happy. She was treated with affection and respect. We always felt welcome on our frequent visits. Mum was kept safe. There have been a number of changes in management band we feel these could have been communicated better.
A warm, friendly and homely atmosphere. The staff are kind, caring and extremely compassionate. Very professional and dedicated. The management always has time to listen to your queries and these are dealt with efficiently. They always put you at ease. The rooms are clean, light, airy and well-presented. The food is freshly prepared by experienced chefs and they are nutritious and adapted to meet residents' individual requirements. A wide variety of activities are supplied for residents' stimulation and enjoyment. Outside space is available for residents to enjoy. The staff always have time to spend chatting and engaging with residents' requirements making them feel relaxed, special and safe. My father felt like part of the 'family' and I would highly recommend Barons Down Nursing Home.
My Mum-in-Law was admitted to Barons Down in November for end-of-life care following a long hospital admission. This was a very difficult time for us as a family, especially for my Father-in-Law and Husband, but throughout we were supported by the lovely Manager and her team. All of the staff without exception were empathetic and caring, and we cannot thank them enough for the kindness and care they all showed to my Mum-in-Law in her final weeks.
Mum sadly passed away very recently and I cannot thank the staff enough for their diligence and care in her final days. The night staff were wonderful in keeping me informed having to break the news of her passing in the early hours. I can’t thank them enough for the last 18 months of mums life and through such difficult times too. The new Care Manager has made all the difference with her exemplary communication skills in keeping families updated. Thank you Barons Down.
My mum came from the Intermediate Care Unit of the local hospital in Lewes, and for the last four years, Baron's Down Nursing Home has been her home, until she passed away peacefully one evening recently. She had her own room looking out onto the garden, and all the staff made her very welcome and comfortable. She often told us how much she enjoyed the food, and how kind she found all the people who worked there. The nurses, carers and other staff are exceptional. There is a warm and friendly atmosphere in the home, and our family were impressed by their professionalism and dedication. They were so kind and supportive when my mum declined in her final weeks, and we all admire their compassion and thoughtfulness in such a demanding job.
In the last two weeks, since mum has been in Barons Down the improvement is amazing. She's got her spark back, her eating has improved and the swelling on her legs has gone down. The staff a very friendly and helpful and keep me posted on all mum's needs. Amazing.
Our lovely father was in Barons Down Nursing Home for a month before he sadly passed away. We were extremely grateful that the home managed to find him a room at short notice and gave him such excellent end of life care. The whole team were amazing and he was truly well looked after by the wonderful nursing team and exceptional carers. The kindness, care and compassion that was shown to him, and the support they gave us, his family, was of great comfort to us all.
I can't thank the management/staff enough for the loving care and attention that my mother is receiving from everyone. She is extremely happy in the home, which gives us great delight to know that she is so well cared for. During the lockdown, the management staff are very kind in keeping me informed about her health and well-being. Management staff have said don’t hesitate in calling if I have any concerns regarding my mother, they are always there to help and give good advice.
My wife was in Barons Down from January until her death on 4th Feb. She came from hospital. She had numerous ailments including a recently diagnosed cancer. She was as contented I believe in the home as someone in her condition could be. The staff were kind and efficient. There was a friendly, cheerful air about the place which I'm sure cannot but be good for the residents and patients. She was on palliative care in her final days and I was permitted to visit her. I was made welcome by the staff at all times. They must have been very busy but it never showed.
During an extremely difficult time for the world, a pandemic that kept me away from my dear Nan in her final weeks, the staff at Barons Down were always happy to take my calls and tell me how my Nan was doing as they knew I couldn't visit due to the Covid19 restrictions. Every time I spoke to someone I could hear the compassion and empathy in their voice. They were very patient when speaking to me. My Nan received palliative care there after suffering a large stroke and becoming unable to swallow. She was transferred to Barons Down from the hospital. She also had a second stroke whilst at the nursing home. Although only a resident for 10 days the staff and carers there made a big impression on me. It was clear that they cared about my Nan. They treated her with care and dignity and I will always be thankful for how they looked after her during those last days.
My brother has been resident in this home for around 18 months now, his needs are complex and mobility very limited. During his time at the home he has received excellent care, the staff all know him and go above and beyond to make him as happy and comfortable as possible. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. I always feel comfortable leaving my brother, I do not feel guilty because I know he will be alright and it is the best place for him to be because of the high quality of care he will receive 24 hours a day. The nurses and Manager are very professional, the family is kept informed about any health care concerns that arise and action taken. In my opinion Barons Down Nursing Home is well run and well led by the home Manager. The atmosphere in the home is like a tight knit community, calm happy and content. Thank you all.
