View Full Details of Claydon HouseA very responsive, caring and safe environment. Encouraged my mother to be as active as she could be during her recovery from fractures. Staff always friendly and cheerful and took time to get to know Mum and family. Managers were also extremely flexible and helpful about arranging respite spells in emergencies:
All members of staff go beyond all expectations. Everyone is so kind and helpful. It is a wonderful care home to live in.
The home is very cosy, lovely main rooms, the room my auntie is in could do with a make over. The staff are lovely friendly and welcoming. I have answered as best as I can to the ratings but I don't know all the details of some.
Excellent. Care staff were first class.
Having had a severe stroke earlier in the year, nothing more could be done at the stroke unit so we needed to find a care home. From the first meeting, we were so impressed with the team and facilities. We had some complications with the admission but the team stepped in and managed this for us. Snice moving in the change to our mum has been incredible. She has a special chair to allow her some freedom to move around the home and in the short time being there she looks so much better. The staff are amazing, friendly and always greeted with a smile.
Claydon House has brought my mother some peace. Her room is always immaculate and she is well cared for. The greatest asset Claydon House has are the staff. The people caring for my mother are warm, kind, attentive and efficient. My one issue is that they are very overworked. There should be more support for the staff and they should never have to work alone for periods of time. I think it is an incredibly demanding job and the well being of the carers should be at the forefront because the happier they are the happier the home is. I would recommend Claydon House. It has been a lovely place for my mother to be.
I want to express my appreciation for the whole team at Claydon House. My mother and I looked at several nursing homes in and around the region, and we instantly came to the decision that Claydon House felt the most homely not only in terms of the place itself, but, more vitally, with respect to the staff themselves. They are all attentive, caring, warm and compassionate and treat my mother as an individual rather than a patient. Her room here has become a version of her home beyond Claydon House. This level of respect and attention for who she is as a person is so important for her well-being. I live abroad, but feel reassured that my mother is in such good hands at Claydon House while I'm away. The team here are all doing such important work; I cannot thank you all enough for taking such care of mum.
I am delighted that my family and I chose Claydon House as the most suitable nursing home for my needs. Not only situated in a lovely crescent, but a clean and well managed home. We looked at plenty of nursing homes which were frankly grim. The staff here are simply lovely. All of them are friendly, helpful, kind and east to chat to.
Claydon House provided a comfortable and caring home for my dad in his last weeks and the staff was excellent, very patient, kind, and compassionate. They took really good care of him which isn’t easy when, at times he could be rude, aggressive, and racist. People say that old people are stuck in their ways but I disagree. It’s never too late to learn to be anti-racist and I hope that he did try. I hope he provided some laughter and joy too with the warm side of his personality. Sadly I was not notified he was dying and I therefore missed that one chance to say goodbye and to sit with him in his last hours/moments which is what I would have loved to have done and I know he wanted that too and couldn’t vocalize it at that vital time. I would urge anyone reading this to make a very clear ‘end-of-life plan’ detailing who to contact with phone numbers and specific wishes. I was reassured that a kind staff member who he liked was with him when he died, I wish it had been me.
The team at Claydon House offered excellent care to my father. They established strong personal relationships, getting to know him as a person and always treating him with respect. Their practical care of him was equally good, attentive to his changing needs and proactive in identifying anything needing attention. Highly recommended.
My elderly father has moderate to severe dementia and needed a respite stay. I work in the NHS locally and know from colleagues and service users that Claydon House, Lewes, has an extremely good reputation. I did not hold out much hope of getting our father in there but miraculously, there was availability for him. He stayed in the dementia unit which has gorgeous bedrooms, lovely cosy, friendly, homely lounges, and all set in beautiful surroundings. The food was delicious and plenty of it! All of the staff without exception were so friendly, helpful, accommodating, breathtakingly patient, and so kind. Everyone there genuinely cares about their residents and takes the time and effort to get to know individuals' quirks, likes and dislikes, and routines. The care and compassion shown was second to none. The activities and events laid on were marvellous. I cannot thank everyone there enough. I can recommend Claydon House extremely highly without hesitation.
My elderly friend arrived at Claydon House after a very traumatic few months. Losing the sister who cared for her meant I had to move my friend quickly from their home. Over the transition and settling in, I have found the management at Claydon House so kind and supportive. They have been personally involved in reassuring and bonding with my friend. All the staff wants to make things as easy, manageable and positive for me and my vulnerable loved one. First class so far!
Congratulations to the wellbeing team at Claydon House for a great Christmas party on the 22nd of December 2023. Everyone had a good time and it was lovely for so many families to attend. Thanks also go to the catering team, the food was beautifully presented and delicious! The raffle, pass the parcel, activities and the faces on the marshmallows were all really fun! Everyone is made to feel welcome at Claydon House, there is a lovely, relaxed and homely atmosphere. Everyone is encouraged to join in and have fun. My mum really enjoys the activities and is still talking about the trip to the pantomime. Thank you to everyone at Claydon House for providing so much love and kindness to those who are home and their families.
We are looking for a Care Home for my mother, who has quite advanced dementia, and I have a small road trip on Friday to visit four homes. Claydon House was the run-away winner. The staff were amazing (thanks to one member of staff for taking the time to show me around). The house interiors are exceptional, and the bedrooms feel cosy and high-end. I may move in myself! There is also a lovely garden that is 100% wheelchair accessible - not very green in November, but I bet it is a lovely place to spend an afternoon in the spring and summer. I hope that Mum will be moving in soon.
Mum is well-cared for, safe and happy. Thank you to all at Claydon House.
My relative has been a resident of Claydon House for over six years in the dementia wing. Throughout that time -and as their condition has become more advanced - they have been treated with care, kindness, thoughtfulness professionalism and, dare I say it, love. A variety of activities make the home lively. It’s clear the staff aim to do their best, even when circumstances are trying. All the staff know the names of the residents and greet them warmly, creating a lovely homely feeling. It’s given me huge peace of mind as I feel my relative is in professional and caring hands.
My husband has been in Claydon House, Lewes for over two years and during that time he has received excellent care. The manager and staff are all very friendly, caring, kind and professional and always make me feel very welcome each time I visit, which makes it so much easier for me. The house itself looks wonderful since the refurbishment. My grateful thanks to all.
My mother has been a resident at Claydon House for eight months. She has responded well to the calm and friendly atmosphere. She enjoys the kind support and friendship of the staff and other residents. She regularly participates in a wide range of activities that are creative and designed with residents’ wishes in mind. The recent refurbishment has created attractive and comfortable places for relaxation, dining and activities. Her room is well-equipped and always clean. Claydon House is well managed. Staff appear to be well supported by their managers and to enjoy their work. There is always someone available to help where necessary. Relatives are regularly informed about, and involved in, current arrangements and future plans. I am very grateful to all the staff at Claydon House for their care and support.
I visit Claydon House on average once a month to see a good friend from some years back. I always look forward to my visit because not only my friend but also the staff give me a lovely welcome. We often sit around the table, chatting with other residents, sharing a cup of tea and delicious biscuits. There's many an anecdote and joke which staff join in with, always appropriately. I'm impressed by how attentive, alert yet relaxed they are and by the fun activities - bingo, arm-chair exercises and ferrets and guinea pigs! A light, attractive decor adds to the informal ambience of the communal room, its outlook reflecting the changing seasons. My friend seems happy and settled.
My dad and my aunt, and my grandad before them, all spent their final days at Claydon House. My dad and aunt were both very unwell at the time of being referred and needed nursing care. The staff were amazing and provided the highest level of care, they did everything they could to keep them comfortable. As well as meeting their everyday needs they were able to spend time with them. The management of their needs and the home was also of a very high standard, any issues were raised with me along with help navigating some of the processes and systems to get them the best level of care for them. I would recommend Claydon House, it is on the more expensive side but you get what you pay for and they went out of their way to meet my aunt's needs. My experience with cheaper homes is not that great.
