View Full Details of Birch Grove Nursing HomeBirch Grove is a fantastically caring Nursing Home. My friend stayed there after a spell in hospital, to assess whether she would be able to return to her home or not. In time, it was clear that my friend needed Nursing Home care. She stayed in Birch Grove and her final 18 months of life were filled with kindness, fun activities and making new friends. Before Birch Grove my friend had become isolated; living in Birch Grove, she took part in many wonderful events and celebrations. She was also supported to go on a trip out for lunch, something she hadn't managed for quite some time. I would recommend Birch Grove to anyone who is considering a Nursing Home for their loved one. The staff are very kind and compassionate and the team is very well led by a great manager.
My mum arrived at Birch Grove Nursing Home after being in hospital and I was very nervous, as I never thought that she would require nursing home care. However, the care and respect shown by all of the staff have been very humbling and I can not thank them enough for everything they did. Outstanding, compassionate and excellent care was provided and I am very grateful to all concerned.
Having lived her final 13 months at Birch Grove, our mother passed away there, peacefully, in early February. The care she received in that year, and particularly in her final days, was more than we could have wished for. Though the loss was very painful, the care and attention Mum, and us as her family, received at that time from the staff was precious and has left very special memories that will help us through. The management and staff genuinely care about their residents and go above and beyond to make this very much 'their home'. Everyone is treated as an individual, respected for who they are, and celebrated at every opportunity. Though the initial transitioning couple of months from her own flat to nursing care was a difficult/upsetting time for Mum, she very quickly grew to realise this was a safe place, a place to be with people, to socialise (or not), to be creative, to have fun, dance and laugh. There is always something happening at BG. Thank you for everything!!
My 92-year-old mum came to Birch Grove for re-assessment in December 2023 and was welcomed by the staff. They quickly worked out my mum's personality which was fun and happy and liked to banter and they engaged with her stopping to chat as they passed her door and waving hello as they passed. The kitchen was quite happy to make Mum something different if she didn't like the dinner. When Mum was finally accepted as a full-time resident the management went to great lengths to offer Mum a room which was bigger and more private but Mum liked the smaller room she had been in which was normally used for short stays only, so this was redecorated and made mum's permanent room which she loved. Mum passed away in May so was only at home for 5 months but in that time she had settled and felt totally at home and loved all the staff so I cannot thank them enough. If you want a home that feels very friendly and family-orientated with caring and friendly staff then Birch Grove fits the bill.
My mother was transferred to the care of Birchgrove Nursing Home from Hospital admission, for respite care, which turned into a long-term stay. The high level of care from management down was evident every time we visited Mum every few weeks. Her whole demeanour lightened up! She smiled and laughed more whenever my husband and I visited. She enjoyed being in the company of other residents or by herself. Mum participated in the majority of events, often encouraging others; and this was supported by the care staff. The management team, carers, and kitchen staff all participated in various activities with residents, which in turn encouraged Mum to get involved. This also encouraged us as a family. The staff always ensured Mum had what she needed from clothing, food, personal care, etc. Even down to allowing her access to a small patio area to her room and putting a bird table there, to enjoy seeing birds feeding as well as mischievous squirrels!
