View Full Details of Cavell House Care HomeMy mother came to Cavell House from hospital and since arriving the staff have been helpful, kind and sympathetic towards her. She has been kept warm, safe and well catered for. You could not expect any more from a care home.
I find Cavell Care Home a friendly place for my mum to stay. The staff are constantly cleaning and making sure that the home is warm and welcoming. The nursing staff are reassuring. The management are professional. I'm more than happy for my mum to reside here.
My wife is well looked after. The staff are kind to her and supportive. She always praises the food. Admin staff are very kind and on the ball.
We felt very welcome into the home to visit our aunt in her last few months. All the staff treated her with love and kindness. She always looked clean and well cared for. The room was bright and airy with a nice view of garden. Although our aunt had dementia and was easily distressed, we found her much more settled here than at her previous care home. We commend the nursing staff for their compassion and professionalism.
Some staff more compassionate/caring than others. Told by nurse within minutes of mum's admission that I had to get an undertaker as the body needs be removed within 3 hours of death. Brutal. One nurse has zero compassion/people skills. Lovely staff helped personalise mum's room which helped massively. Staff shortages lead to unanswered call bells and mum being left in soiled pants some mornings. I requested medicine for painful mouth ulcers, nothing was actioned so I was told to buy over counter myself. Then nurse refused to administer it! Staff smoke on premises (outside). I had to push hard for mum to receive a direct drive for final days as the regular injections were causing her to scream in pain. I received a call at midnight to say mum had died and the nurse said "I told you to wait a few more hours" (I'd been at her side until a few hours earlier and every day for 4 months). Uncaring comment. Mum's watch was removed from her body and "disposed of" before going to undertaker.
My friend was admitted from hospital to Cavell House. He was on end-of-life care. He did receive good and compassionate care. The staff were always polite, caring and helpful. I wish I could mention staff names, they deserve praise.
My mother-in-law hasn't got her dentures in when visited today. She complained about her mouth being sore. I bought her some oral pain relief gel for her from the supermarket. Carer said she would put it on. She isn't wearing her glasses to watch TV. The home said they would get the opticians to come in over a month ago, still not done. Mum is unable to verbalise which is difficult for us when communicating. I have asked for a device to assist her with the calls. The home says they have one but to date, this is not being used. This is distressing for Mum and us as a family, especially as we live in Oxford. Please can you ensure these things are done? She pays for her care so needs help with this to enhance her interaction with us. Thanks.
My brother has settled in well at Cavell House due to his comfortable room and the caring staff. He has very complex needs and is pretty much non-verbal due to a degenerative condition. Most staff are understanding and through kindness and compassion help him through his day. After a long traumatic time in hospital, he is now cared for in a manner that his family is very appreciative of. Thank you to those at Cavell House who go the extra mile to help him through this tragic time.
My sister is very happy at Cavell House. The staff are cheerful and helpful. Very welcoming to visitors. She will be spending her final days at Cavell House and it is a great relief to me and her family she is at peace.
We are grateful for the care that we have all had over the last 3.5 years. In every aspect of Mum's care, she has been looked after and we have been kept informed. All professionals who came into contact with Mum treated her with respect, kindness and understanding (because she wasn't always at her best/kindest). End-of-life care was just what she asked for. She felt safe, loved and cared for. We can't thank you enough.
The staff are always helpful and treat my friend with kindness and dignity. The dining room does not look institutionalised but more like a restaurant. It is also pleasant to sit in one of the lounges.
My father has been at Cavell House for just over a year and whilst it was a wrench leaving his own home, he was made to feel welcome and settled in well. He is now happy and feels safe and well looked after. All the staff are very polite, friendly and helpful and I feel the level of general and nursing care is very good. The nursing staff are very attentive and we are always kept advised of any developments in my father's condition.
Cavell House is an excellently run care/nursing home. All the staff are very kind and treat my mum with much respect, care and dignity. Mum smiles when they enter her room. The staff are very welcoming to visitors and are very happy to speak to me about Mum or just to have a friendly chat. They always have time for me and if there is something I need to chat about they will listen and likewise they keep me updated about Mum’s needs etc. Her records are kept in her room and are updated regularly throughout the day. Everything is logged perfectly. The home is very clean and run in an extremely orderly way. Rooms are fine and cater for each residents’ needs. The indoor communal areas are perfect and the lovely courtyard gardens in the middle of the home are a wonderful place to sit with your loved one or to gather in for care home summer activities, which are great even though Mum can no longer attend them. I cannot fault Cavell House at all. Thank you all of you for looking after Mum.
Although improvement have been made to staffing and competency, there is still much more improvement that can be made. Staff seem cheerful but there are not enough of them and often lunch and tea breaks mean there isn't anyone around if assistance is required. The food offering has improved but is not consistent. General communication seems to be an issue. My personal opinion is that some staff do the bare minimum and do not put themselves out to give exemplary care.
Staff work really hard here. They could do with more to help as they are always short and running around with no time to just sit and chat to the clients. This would make a massive difference as the staff should have time with them. One member of staff is amazing but has too many clients to support, it would be great for her to have help. More entertainment is amazing but support for one member of staff's role would be good. The lady in the office is a great support to staff, families and clients.
My mum came in two weeks ago, very confused, crying and upset. The staff have gone out of their way to help Mum settle in, so friendly and supportive. They really have gone to huge lengths, over and beyond what I expected to help my mum. Mum has since settled. Still likes to wander but really is happy here and constantly telling me how lovely everyone is and loves the food.
I love your staff. I know everyone does their best for my friend. I always get a friendly welcome. The home is clean and tidy and feels well-organised. Nothing in life is perfect but love is the answer!
Cavell House Care Home is a very friendly home. The staff try hard to provide very good care to all their residents. Whilst the home has been updated over the last few years, there is still room for improvement, e.g. some toilets are still outdated although fully functional.
My father lived in Cavell House Care Home for just three months. He was always treated kindly and with dignity. All staff were so wonderful, managers, administrators, nurses, carers, entertainment coordinator, cleaners and other support workers were professional, efficient and took pride in doing a great job. The home itself was clean and airy and always welcoming. While there, I felt my dad was well looked after - I felt looked after as well, they cared for me as much as Dad.
I cannot praise Cavell House Care Home enough. The love, care and support that she receives is excellent and I can come away each time I visit with peace of mind knowing that my mum is happy, safe and being well looked after. It is such a lovely, friendly place and really does feel like home. Thank you to everyone who works there, you are all amazing.
