I am submitting this review on behalf of my two brothers and me. Our mother came to Prinsted Care Home in May 2023 following a serious fall and hospital stay. Initially for post-hospital convalescence, we were all keen for her to stay permanently because of the quality of care and the welcoming and caring environment. We would wish to commend Prinsted for the operational leadership, empathy demonstrated by staff, the cheery environment and attention to mental and physical health and wellbeing. Activities are fun, engaging and varied. The food is of good quality and well-presented. We appreciate the opportunity to give feedback and hear about developments planned.
I chose Prinsted Care Home for my aunt to live in, having moved from a care home locally. The staff at the care home are fantastic. They know all about the various foibles of the residents. I am always greeted warmly. There are plenty of activities for my aunt. I am always informed of any particular problems, such as a fall or a GP visit. Special entry fobs are provided so that I am able to visit at any time. The care home provides regular meetings for relatives and residents, which are very informative.
My mother chose Prinsted from several options and spent over 4 years there until passing away. She based her choice largely on feeling comfortable and at home there, plus their having nursing care on the floor above which would prevent her having to relocate later as her health declined. The facilities, food, cleanliness and activities were always good but I was most impressed by the genuine care the staff showed towards the residents. There was nothing artificial or contrived about this, it was more than just a job for them, they did actually want to meet the needs of the residents however they could. This might mean catering for food preferences or changing staff rosters so that my mother could be looked after by staff she liked most. They would even share their break times with her so she could have an occasional smoke outside with them. Prinsted became my mother's home and the staff and other residents became her family. I believe that she made an excellent choice.
It took a lot of searching to find the right place for my mum. Prinsted delivered on every level. As a family, we could not have chosen better. From the moment she arrived, we knew we had made the right choice. The care, dedication, dignity, respect and humour shown by all staff to all their residents was humbling to witness. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Unfortunately Mum was very poorly when she arrived and passed away soon after. The end-of-life care for Mum, delivered by all the excellent nursing staff, was simply outstanding. We will be forever grateful that she was able to spend her last few days being cared for in such a wonderful home and by such wonderful people. I cannot recommend Prinsted highly enough.
One of the hardest things I've had to was to accept that Mum could no longer be cared for at home so for me nothing and nowhere was going to be good enough but Prinsted Care Home has allayed all my fears and worries and I feel blessed that my mum is in very capable, caring and competent hands. She has settled in so well that the staff have become her new family and as much as I initially felt very jealous of that connection, it has been a vital bond that despite the devastating condition that is dementia, has allowed her to have some quality of life for which I am forever grateful.
Placing a loved one in the care of others is a very difficult thing to do, but Prinsted gave us confidence from the outset that they would care for our mum with love, compassion and understanding. Through some very tricky times, they have remained professional yet approachable, caring and kind, but above all have continuously shown respect and warmth towards our mum and our family, for which, we cannot thank them enough. We know that mum is in a safe and loving environment where nothing is too much trouble.
My Dad absolutely didn't want to move to a care home, however after a few falls and profound mobility and confidence issues he moved into Prinsted Care Home after a spell in hospital. I thought dad would take forever to settle in but thanks to the kind and patient carers and managers he has settled well. Dad's room is lovely, bright and airy and now with lots of his beloved things from home around him. Dad has since been in hospital again and is now doing well at Prinsted - their diligence and high standard of nursing is top notch and every effort is made to make dad feel included and a valued resident. An intensely private man who is very anxious now feels safe and I feel very confident with all the team looking after him. My dad's appetite is good but he has now begun to explore other menu options and enjoying the huge variety. Constant tea or coffee is on offer and I am always included when I am there, it's lovely and homely. I would be very happy to recommend.
Choosing a Care Home for my 95-year-old mum was probably one of the hardest things I've had to do, I knew what I was looking for and the most important quality was I wanted my mum to be valued, respected and to be treated like I would hope the carers would treat their own loved ones. I have certainly found this at Prinsted Care Home, the staff regardless of their roles are committed to the well being of their residents, they share information, they treat the residents as individuals and not just 'the resident in room number 5'. The food was another area important to me, my mum loves her food, and this is another area that ticks the box, she doesn't just say the dinner was nice it's more like 'The meat was so tender.... all of these qualities the home has, has helped my mum transition from living independently to living in a care environment. Well done to the staff, you are ALL an asset to Prinsted Care Home, I would definitely recommend you to others......in fact I already have.
My parents moved into a double room in Prinsted Care Home in February 2021. The transition was quite difficult for my father who had been my mother's full-time carer during the previous two years. The staff helped him to gradually relinquish his feelings of responsibility and associated anxiety. Sadly, my mother died after nine months residency and my father was supported with much tenderness and understanding during the weeks following his bereavement. Gradually his mobility and mental energy increased and he was able to lead an active and sociable life inside and outside the care home. He greatly appreciated the friendly daily care, delivered with warmth, respect and humour. His final illness came quite suddenly, but like my mother previously, he was fortunate to receive superb end-of-life care delivered by the home's highly professional nurses, supported by the exceptionally kind and efficient carers. As a family, we are extremely grateful and would highly recommend this care home.
My father who was 93 came to live at Prinsted Care Home in late 2019. He requested residential care. I visited most days and was very impressed with all the staff and their care for the residents. When covid struck the country, I had every confidence in them and there was not one case in the home. My father is now 95 and physically in much better health than when he came. I would not hesitate to recommend.
After taking care of my husband for nearly eight years after his severe stroke, the time came when it was no longer possible to take on the task alone. Prinsted has been an amazing caring place for my husband. The staff and carers are all wonderful and I would not hesitate to recommend Prinsted to anyone. There are also plenty of activities going on to keep everyone happy. They do seem to go the extra mile at Prinsted. Well done.
My mother has been happily settled into Prinsted Care Home for the last ten months. Her level of care is exemplary. The staff are experienced, cheerful and understanding. She takes part in a varied programme of creative and fun activities. There is a warm, family friendly atmosphere. The food is excellent and plentiful with wine available. The house and grounds are very attractive and well maintained. I could not have found a better home for mum.
My mother sadly had a fall and we needed to locate a local care home quickly. We visited Prinsted and immediately felt that the home would suit our mum. The staff were welcoming, friendly and very understanding. I have found the whole team to be incredibly supportive on our journey in caring for a loved one with dementia. The nursing staff are professional and knowledgeable. They take the time to listen to any concerns that are raised and answer them thoughtfully. The staff have worked holistically to problem solve any issues we have found and worked creatively to support our mum and allow her to feel as independent as possible. The approach is always focused on what is best for our mum and her opinion is respected. The staff have taken time to understand my mum and cater to her likes and tastes. The home offers a varied programme of entertainment for the residents which is fun and lively at times and encourages residents to join in.
My mother lived alone until she had a fall aged 99. She was very reluctant to go into a home but settled really quickly and now appreciates the care she receives and the excellent food. Her 100th birthday came in lockdown but the staff ensured that she had an amazing day. She couldn’t be in a better place.
Dad moved into a double room with Mum in April 2016. Since she died, nearly 2 years ago, Dad has been in a single room upstairs. The quality of care has been excellent in all regards. All staff are professional, caring, courteous and good-humored. It is reassuring that as soon as a medical condition is diagnosed Dad gets appropriate treatment. The facilities are good with a spacious lounge overlooking the garden where Dad can enjoy sunny weather. When he is not reading or watching television, Dad has enjoyed some of the impressive activities that are laid on.
My mum was taking respite here and the care home was really friendly, caring and took great care to ensure my mum was safe. They encouraged my mum to join in with the activities and to stretch herself to regain her independence. They ensured that any feedback was recorded and fed back. It is professionally run to a high standard.
My mother has been at Prinsted Care Home for three years. It was an emotional time finding somewhere for her to live, but the love and care shown by the management and staff made this decision so much easier. The home is bright and cheerful and the staff are always so kind. It is obvious that they have taken the time to get to know my mum and even though she now has good days and bad days. I am always confident, reassured and thankful that she is safe and being well looked after.
My mother spent the best part of a year at Prinsted. As a family we had been advised that she required 24-hour care and having selected Prinsted as the nursing home for her, we were impressed by the team there from day one. Every member of staff should be praised for their part in my mother's care during that time and the sensitivity and professionalism shown was completely reassuring. We were particularly taken with the positive nature of the nursing team, right up to my mother's last days which were so tenderly dealt with.
As a family, we were extremely happy with the care given from the laundry, kitchen and care staff including nurses and management. The home had a happy and caring atmosphere which made a difficult time easier.
