View Full Details of Tenchley ManorOur father moved into Tenchley Manor, Selsey, on 21st June 2024 and from that time until his passing on 27th November 2024, we cannot praise the staff enough for their dedication, gentle care and genuine kindness. They were wonderful and our father was very appreciative - as were we. Whenever possible, the staff gave a lot of time and interest to both our father and mother (who is still a resident). The management, nurses, carers, catering staff and housekeeping team were all extremely supportive to my sister, brother, myself and our parents during a difficult time and we are forever grateful to them. The consideration they had (and still have for our mother), is so much appreciated. A wonderful team and I have been singing their praises to so many people.
My auntie was looked after very well at the end of life, the staff were very good and they looked after me very well.
My mum arrived at Tenchley on the 5th September and I knew from that day I had chosen the right place for her care. The staff are genuinely caring and I could see this in my mum's non-verbal cues when she saw them or they were giving her care. The staff took time to get to know Mum, and there was never any rush for example when taking time to feed her. The nursing staff were very experienced in Palliative care and I had every confidence in the decisions they suggested. On the day of her passing the staff were very attentive and made sure we as a family ate and drank. They were very respectful at all times. We cannot thank them enough.
I remember many years ago visiting an old friend in the building, it had a different name at the time but the garden was extensive and lovely. When I was very ill in hospital I was asked, if I survived, which home I would like to go to. I didn't know the name, but I remember the garden, and here I am! How about that! The care I have received has been brilliant. I have been so lucky. The staff are caring and efficient. I couldn't ask for more.
My Mum stayed in Tenchley Manor for 2 years. She died on 20th July this year. My husband and I visited multiple times each week. We encountered many problems over this time. One of our main concerns was the appalling communication between staff members, us, management and more importantly, the lack of communication between staff members and Mum. The staff don't have time to spend with the residents. They are rushed and always seem short-staffed. Some of the staff were kind, friendly and good at their jobs, and I appreciate them. Others didn't seem to have the supervision or training they so clearly needed. This was a concern. There was a high turnover of staff in the time Mum was there. They won't keep good staff until they listen to their genuine concerns. I would definitely not recommend Tenchley Manor to others. I do not feel that my Mum was cared for to an acceptable standard. I felt I had a constant battle, just trying to make sure Mum was getting what she needed.
My mother-in-law is very well looked after and cared for. We know she is safe.
Visited my dad for the first time at this nursing home. He was clean, well-groomed and happy watching the Olympics. He said he was happy and the food was good. The staff were pleasant and attentive all the time, offering drinks and getting meal requirements from others as well as my dad. Other residents were chatty and cheerful. Went home feeling very happy that he was secure and well looked after.
Having spent a number of days visiting several nursing homes, we chose Tenchley Manor as it felt like a house and not a hospital setting. Warm and welcoming atmosphere, lovely staff. Care of my mum was dealt with sensitively and compassionately. Regular updates face to face or on the phone. Care shown to us as well. Speak thanks to three particular nurses. A real home from home - thank you to everyone who cared for Mum.
My dad has been a Tenchley Manor resident for 3 years now and he is definitely in the right place. He is well looked after in all aspects of his care by wonderful staff who do all they can to make him comfortable. Not only do they give my dad first-class care they are always there to support me too with kindness and warmth when I find it particularly hard to see my dad so poorly. My dog regularly accompanies me on my visits to see Dad and he loves coming too as he's always thoroughly spoiled with lots of doggie treats.
My husband has been a resident at Tenchley for a number of years and often speaks of how happy he is. Management are always so welcoming and supportive and always find time to catch up with us a family. The staff are caring and take care to ensure that his needs are met, both medically, physically and mentally. We are very happy here.
I'm so pleased that mum was able to move from the hospital to Tenchley Manor. I can relax in knowing mum is very well cared for by a team of friendly and kind staff. Management is professional and approachable. Tenchley has taken a huge amount of stress from my shoulders and I will always be grateful for their care of mum.
A very big thank you to this wonderful team at Tenchley Manor for making a milestone birthday very special and for letting us enjoy a fabulous day celebrating with family and friends. The care and compassion every member of staff has for the residents is exceptional and they go above and beyond to make all feel like one big family. Cannot thank them all enough for all that they do!!
I cannot thank the staff at Tenchley Manor enough. As a family, over the generations this area has always been our second home, unfortunately of late it is not possible for us to take Mum with us on holiday due to the deterioration of her health, however, with Mum in respite at Tenchley Manor she was able to holiday with us with exceptional care provided on her stay and at the same time enjoying a few days out with the family.
Everyone has been exceptionally kind and caring. Dad moved here sixteen months ago to be closer to Mum. He loved to sit in the day room every morning with a view of the sea. Mum visited daily and was also kindly looked after, sometimes joining in activities or happily staying to lunch dates with Dad. Throughout his stay, he has received outstanding care from everyone and we were always made welcome and never concerned to leave him in your care. He had no worries and passed peacefully within view of the sea. We can't begin to thank you enough for all you have done for Dad during his stay with you. It will never be forgotten.
My Dad (58) went to reside at Tenchley Manor from the end of June 2023 until late August and when he moved to hospice, his cancer-related anxiety and symptoms had become too difficult to manage at home, and it was decided a nursing home would be the safest place for him. Dad had very complex needs and on top of this a terminal diagnosis, making him hard to manage. Most of the staff were very good and with my Dad. My only criticism was I wish I had felt listened to more regarding his end-of-life symptoms. Tenchley have kept in touch with me and were very supportive and still are since my Dad passed away in September 2023.
After a few years of my father being a resident at Tenchley Manor, he sadly passed away in January 2024. I would just like to say how very grateful I am for the support, firstly from the two ladies always there or at the end of the phone with updates on how Dad was doing and a smile and a hug when I needed it most. One particular lady, well what can I say, forever grateful for the honest advice, support and hugs for me through this turbulent journey and to all of the staff for the care and compassion you gave to Dad, I would never have been able to have to get through the sadness without all of you. To the manager - you have a host of angels.
Tenchley Manor has a reputation as a top nursing home and rightly so. The staff are polite, respectful and very professional. Despite my mother's stay being sadly short, I am very happy that she ended her days in their care.
Took Mum for emergency respite and ended up saving her life. The care and support she was given was excellent and has helped her to regain her confidence. All staff I met were caring and considerate. Manager was excellent in coming out to assess Mum within an hour and organisation her admission within a few hours.
The care team have been wonderful at ensuring our dad is well taken care of 24 hours a day. The place is always clean, the staff always happy and engaged and we also have our needs or concerns addressed in a timely and effective manner.
My husband arrived at Tenchley Manor from the hospital two years ago following a serious leg break and surgery. I live locally and have visited him on a daily basis. I have always been welcomed warmly, as has our dog, who loves his visit to the admin office every day for a treat. It was always my husband's hope to eventually return home, and every effort has been made by the staff at Tenchley to care for his physical and mental shape and to keep this hope alive. They have booked GP and physio visits at the home, arranged transport for hospital appointments, and recently sourced from the NHS a wheelchair made to measure. This very positive lead by the management is reflected in all the staff, who after two years, have come to understand my husband well. He has a splendid room overlooking the Solent and thoroughly enjoys checking the shipping on his app! It has become a home from home for me and I am grateful for the support I have been given. There has also been lots of fun!
