View Full Details of Sunhill CourtMy brother, who has learning difficulties, has been in the care system for most of his adult life. He was placed in Sunhill after the specialist home where he had been living for 19 years was due to close. He had been diagnosed with dementia and also has complex medical needs. Both his previous long-term carers and I were worried about how he would deal with the transition and we were all amazed at how quickly he settled in. Since he arrived he has been treated with kindness, gentleness and respect. On my first visit, I was very moved to see how much care had been taken to arrange his bedroom with his beloved toy car collection and his Only Fools and Horses memorabilia. A lot of work is being undertaken to improve the facilities in the building which is the only reason why I have not yet awarded five stars. I live overseas and am only able to visit on an irregular basis. It has been a great relief to know that he is happy and cared for and the staff seem to be genuinely fond of him.
My wife has lived with the community at Sunhill Court for a little over a year. She has settled in well if difficult at first. The staff and management have been incredible, showing warmth, patience and dedication in supporting her with her dementia affliction. Nothing appears to be too demanding for the staff who always speak to her with total consideration. When I visit I am always made to feel welcome by every member of staff, who are there supporting totally the needs of every resident. I would recommend Sunhill Court to anybody requiring care and support. A thank you to all the dedicated staff and management doesn't go far enough to show how their support is valued.
My Mum has lived at Sunhill Court for over a year now and from the beginning, the staff and management have done all they can to help my Mum settle in. Incredibly friendly and full of laughter environment, nothing is too much trouble. Food, drinks and chairs are organized as soon as you walk through the door to visit, always getting updates on how my Mum has been and any concerns. It doesn't matter who answers the door, they always know exactly where my Mum is and where to find her in the building! Loads of entertainment for the residents on a daily basis which family and friends are always welcome to join in. The staff and management are more like family to Mum and myself, very kind and approachable - any requests are dealt with straight away and with a smile. I would highly recommend Sunhill Court Nursing Home for your loved ones' care and support.
I recently spent a few months visiting my dad at Sunhill Court. My experience was very positive. The manager and staff go above and beyond to care for my dad and all the residents. They are compassionate, engaging, patient, and always have a smile. The rooms are light, spacious, and clean, and the gardens are wonderful. We had lovely picnics in the garden, and each time we were provided with tea and biscuits. The residents are encouraged to spend time in the lounge area where there are various activities, and some receive individual care according to their needs. What struck me most was the consistent compassion and warmth of all the staff, even in trying moments. This was evident as I visited often. The manager was always available to chat, and it is clear that her approachable nature is genuine. I interacted with many of the staff members, and I was thoroughly impressed with each one. Sunhill provides exceptional care and a warm, friendly environment for its residents.
Having been in the unfortunate position of requiring, within the past year, residential dementia care for two family members, has led me to have firsthand experience of the daily workings of four different homes and Sunhill has been, by far, the most accommodating and genuinely caring of those establishments. Nothing I have asked for, or my Mother-in-law has required, has ever been the slightest of inconvenience to the home. The level of care given is first class and is testament to the quality of the caring staff selected for this difficult and challenging roll and is an excellent reflection on the management/leadership team. The level of my Mother-in-law's care has provided many extreme situations for the home, all of which have been managed with the utmost professionalism. I can highly recommend Sunhill for residential dementia care.
Very happy with the staff and care my mum has received in the last 8 months. I am always welcomed no matter what time of day I come. Food is plentiful and nothing is too much trouble. Management always has time for us.
Friendly staff. My brother is comfortable, lovely gardens - but a great pity we could not use them on the 2 sunny days we visited. Apparently, they were not 'safe', but I feel we two visitors could have taken care of my brother.
Sunhill Care Home is well-run and employs hardworking, generally friendly and helpful staff. The environment is spacious and lively while visiting is open. My mother’s room is very nice, with en-suite and TV, also decorated to her tastes. There is a lovely garden, available during the summer months if not accessible directly from the social area.
Awful place, they gave my brother who has alcohol related dementia and depression razor blades. The worst happened, over a month in hospital and scarred for life, also no personal care not given, He always smelt and his feet were disgusting even after numerous requests to get sorted.
I have been very impressed with Sunhill Court since Mum was moved here last year. After a difficult 6 months, it was good to find somewhere where I know Mum is being well cared for and there is such a wealth of experience with mums condition (Alzheimer’s). My Dad also feels very welcome and well looked after when he goes to visit. My only two slightly lower scores are for activities but this has improved significantly since the restrictions around covid have been lifted and the second one was for the facilities which are also currently being improved with a new reception/seating area.
My friend has dementia and various other medical conditions. The care he has received since moving to Sunhill Court has been exemplary. The manager and her whole team of staff go above and beyond to ensure that the needs of each individual resident are met, and this caring, friendly attitude also extends to family and friends who visit - we are always provided with a drink and biscuits, and my friend's wife has joined him for a tasty lunch on several occasions, nothing is too much trouble. Residents are encouraged if they are able to join in with various activities and entertainment sessions. Thank you so much for providing such an excellent service.
Mum lives with dementia and has been at Sunhill for a year. Thankfully, Mum settled in straight away, which was a huge relief as she had become increasingly unhappy and withdrawn at her previous care home. Sunhill endeavours to recognise the individual needs of each resident, and we feel that we are welcomed and listened to. We are reassured by the quality and loyalty of the staff, who demonstrate a caring and friendly attitude, with lots of smiles and interaction with residents. Mum is always dressed elegantly, exactly as she would have done herself, and is brought into the lounge to mingle with the other residents and join in the activities. The food is very good, and we have joined Mum for lunch on occasion. The manager is passionate about offering a high level of care and actively seeks feedback from families. Even though Sunhill is over 30 miles away from my nearest family, as a dementia researcher, I have visited many care homes, and I am satisfied that Mum is in the right place.
Beginning with the manager, all the staff are friendly, professional, capable and caring. They genuinely engage with my Dad in a caring way. Whenever we visit, the team are really attentive to us, often making us drinks and providing a tasty snack or two.
Mum had advanced Alzheimer's, she had fallen and broken her hip, and after a stay in the hospital and rehabilitation centre, she had deteriorated badly. Mum wouldn't eat and barely drank anything. We decided Sunhill was the best option, partly location and partly because they were able to look after advanced dementia clients until the end of life. It was very important she had continuity of care. Mum settled in very quickly and did start to eat a little and actually drank fluids unaided. Myself and my stepbrother visited daily and were welcomed by the numerous staff; there are a lot of staff. The level of care is excellent, and the food for those that can appreciate it is very good; I've sampled it on more than one occasion. Resident's rooms are very nice, but they are all encouraged to be in the day room; there are activities for those that can take part, plus music and television. At least once a month, there are entertainers who visit; the staff really make this home a home.
My brother has been in Sunhill Court for 18 years. My brother was recently moved to a different room which is lovely for him. He has a range of ill health issues, but the home always takes good care of him. When calling about any health crisis, staff have always been very considerate when informing me about what was happening. This is a home which caters for individual residents' needs and, at the same time, makes family members feel welcome. Catering to individual needs prevents the institutionalisation of the home, which can be a danger. In the ratings I have put that I don't know about activities, not because they will be poor but because my brother is unable - and probably unwilling - to take part, so I have no knowledge of the activities there. The downside is that recently the Head Office took over the invoicing process, which is always incorrect. There are purchases without receipts and incorrect additions, which didn't happen before.
My husband has just moved into Sunhill Court following a disruptive year with stays in three different t hospitals and two care homes. It is reassuring that he is now settled in a great place with a homely atmosphere and a good-sized team of caring, friendly staff, who are led by an efficient, approachable manager. Family and friends visiting are treated as "part of the family", and nothing is too much trouble. Recently, it was our 54th wedding anniversary, and we were treated to surprise drinks, nibbles and cake to celebrate - a lovely touch much appreciated.
My husband has been at Sunhill Place for nearly a year. He has multiple needs, and all of these have been met with great kindness and dignity. He has a lovely room, which as a family, we have been able to personalise. I visit frequently and am always surprised that whichever member of the caring staff opens the door to let me in knows exactly where my husband is and how he is that day. Their kindness and support to my family, and in particular, to me, are very much appreciated. I am particularly impressed by the care the staff give to all the residents throughout the day - the little things like stopping to chat or giving a hug when it is needed. I would not have my husband anywhere else.
My husband is always clean, and shaved, however, sometimes I see him with clothes not ironed, which he may not know, but I do. He has always been a very smart man and would hate wearing clothes that are not pressed. He has gained weight and looks well enough, so I know the staff are taking their time on feeding him and always giving him plenty to drink. The staff are very friendly and make me feel quite at home when visiting; I see they talk to him and are aware of his needs (ie) a quiet corner away from any loud noise and sit in a comfortable chair. Also, on a few occasions, my husband has been unwell, and I have been notified straight away, and I can stay with him as long as I like and arrive any time, which is very important.
Our dad had dementia and was moved to Sunhill after a tricky few months. He settled quite quickly, and the staff were always very welcoming to us. We always felt they looked after us as much as they did Dad. If we ever had questions or worries, the manager was quick to address them and offer resolutions that we were happy with. We always felt listened to and that was so important. Dad quickly deteriorated, and the home really did go above and beyond in his last few days. They literally held our hands through the whole process and cared for us all at the toughest of times. Sunhill is a special place made so by the wonderful staff.
Nan came to Sunhill from the hospital on palliative care. All staff members were accommodating to Nan and the family. During these uncertain times of Covid, we were able to see Nan. Nans room was beautiful and big. The view was stunning. A view that Nan could watch the sunset and sunrise. Nan received excellent care; she was washed every day and had clean clothes on. Before going to Sunhill, Nan was very underweight, and in the time she has been there, Nan has put weight on saying, “they do the best cake and tea”. Nan is very happy at Sunhill, and that, as a family, is all we can ask is that she is happy, well looked after and safe. Sunhill offers all of this.
