View Full Details of Askham HouseMy beloved uncle moved to Askham house in September aged 92yr after a horrendous experience in a London Hospital. I truly can not thank staff for their care of both my uncle and our family , my uncle was treated with the upmost dignity and respect. His care was by all the staff was 5* . Askham community gave us 10 very precious weeks with him till he passed . Staff have 100% supported our family since his passing and continue to do so . I can't thank them enough for all they have done xxx
An excellent home with good quality staff who look after my mum extremely well. Activities good be a little better it seems a lot falls onto the care staff to supply activities as well as doing their own jobs.
This is a lovely and clean home. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Mums room is always clean and fresh.
I can highly recommend Askham House. My husband has been there for 6 years now. He has the best care anyone could ask for. Although my husband is in a wheelchair and can not do anything for himself the care he receives is outstanding. He can not speak but the staff read him so well. He is always well presented clean and tidy. Hair and nails too. I do have the time to be his wife and enjoy my time with him. His food is tailored for his needs too, the chef takes note of residents choices and needs. (Food always smells good and looks good too. All staff from cares, nurses and management excel in their work. Thank Askham for being our extended family.
My beloved Dad has been a resident at Askham since before Covid. He has very limited abilities these days but the staff always ensure he is well turned out and that he has a shave (as being clean shaven was his preference when he was well). My Dad struggles to eat and the chef had a conversation with my Mum about how they could encourage him to eat more by making some of his favourite meals. The staff also make a conscious effort to bring him into the communal space in his wheelchair and move him to his bed at mealtimes as he eats better there. It is sad that Dad is so unwell but I am confident he is being well looked after at Askham.
My wife has Alzheimer's and after a fall at home needed to go into hospital. After six weeks in there I was told she was in the last stages of her illness, had only a short time to live and needed to be moved into a care home with nursing palliative for end of life care. I was given a list of suitable care homes but only Askham House was in reasonable travelling distance. I had 24 hours to decide and no chance to view. I agreed she should go there but had concerns about the unknown. I need not have worried. From my first visits there I knew I had made the right decision. The home is well laid out. spotlessly clean and fresh smelling, calm and inviting. The individual rooms are lovely. The nursing staff and carers are kind, friendly and totally dedicated. Because of this my wife's short time to live has now stretched to over a year and although she can't communicate, she is content and stress free.
My mother has been in this wonderful care home for almost 4 years. She has dementia and now unable to feed herself. She is always clean and tidy and has regular showers and hair washes (which in elderly people is not always easy to achieve) Her room is light, airy and always clean. All staff are so friendly and welcoming when we visit. We find the lead nurses always easy to talk to and if we have any queries they are happy to answer them. Staff are efficient, caring, respectful and treat all residents with dignity.
My Mum was treated with dignity up until her death. I was kept informed all the way to the end, I think the home did everything they could to make her last days as good as they could. I cannot fault them in anyway.
My husband has dementia and is bed-bound, cannot feed himself, and is doubly incontinent. I cannot fault the care he receives. He is always clean and tidy and in clean bedding. His room is very comfortable, light, airy, and very clean. The carers are lovely people, very attentive and friendly, and treat him with dignity. They are respectful when engaging with him and they answer any questions I may ask. Cups of tea/coffee are always offered to me when I visit. His appointed carers regularly ask me if I have any concerns. The nurses and lead nurses are very efficient, friendly and so caring. Very available when I visit if I need to ask anything.
Myself and family always feel a calmness and serene atmosphere whenever we come to visit. The attention and care given to the residents is fantastic. The surroundings outside and the freedom for the residents to roam outside too are a big bonus. Everywhere is kept beautifully clean too.
Overall we are happy with the care and the support for my husband at Askham House.
Dad stayed at Askham House for 2 weeks in July. He is in the late stages of Alzheimer's and Vascular Dementia. The previous care home we tried couldn't cope with him as he is very physically able and would try and escape. At Askham House, there is nothing too much for the carers. If Dad wanted to walk, they walked with him and it didn't matter what time of day or night this was. There are beautiful gardens surrounding the buildings and the carers would walk outside with him. The Head of Care and Nursing is amazing and ensured that we were not worried and that Dad was given lots of attention. He looked very happy every day when we visited and also looked super healthy. Our previous experience left us really concerned as he had been given medication daily so that he would stay still. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Askham House and we will definitely be taking Dad back for further breaks. Thank you!
Lack of stimulation. Lack of human contact. Lack of outside exercise. Risk of dehydration due to lack of drinks offered.
I feel my mother is well cared for, the staff have got to know her and how to react to her ways as she cannot communicate how she now feels. I feel for us as a family, having to place a parent in a care home, which is extremely hard, we have found the best place for her and us as a whole for her to be.
Mum been in the home three years, very well looked after she always seems happy and content in photos or when we visit. Her room is always clean and tidy and free from odours. Lead nurse and staff always inform us about any concerns that they may have.
Dad spent two weeks here at the beginning of January 2019, he was receiving end of life care. The level of care, attention and kindness shown to both Dad and myself was exceptional. Dad had a lovely room and bathroom which was perfect for his needs. The staff were always on hand to support both of us with whatever we needed. I am so thankful that Dad was lucky enough to get a room in Askham House, it was definitely the right thing to do for both of us. I was able to revert back to being his daughter and spend quality time with him knowing that all the staff were there to care for and nurse him as required. I have no complaints whatsoever, only enormous thanks to everyone who cared for Dad and made his last days more comfortable.
