View Full Details of Halvergate HouseMy father (who has dementia) has just spent 4 weeks at Halvergate House having respite care after a fall. Our objective was to help build his confidence again with walking and to provide round-the-clock care while we organised home care. I was very impressed by the care Dad received from the whole team. There were always ample staff on duty - including kitchen, care, and nursing staff. They took time to get to know Dad, his personal preferences and took our objectives seriously. Inevitably there is a settling-in period and the staff were reassuring about this. It was easy to get updates on how he was doing/what he'd been up to. Having a nursing team is also a real bonus. They employ an Activities Coordinator who is there 5 days a week. This staff member took time to get to know Dad 121 and also organised small group activities which Dad enjoyed participating in - this made a very positive difference to the quality of Dad's experience at Halvergate House. A big thank you to all.
I find the care staff at Halvergate House to be very kind and caring. They really care about the residents they look after. The nurses and senior care staff are very professional and ensure I am kept up to date with any issues with the resident whom i visit. Thank you all for doing a good job!
I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff at Halvergate House. I have nothing but praise and admiration for the whole team, what an amazing job you all do! nothing is ever too much trouble and they helped me to understand my mother's dementia and needs, no one can prepare you for the day your mum doesn't recognise you anymore but with guidance and help from this wonderful team we managed to navigate our way through some very difficult times. Halvergate became Mum's family, she became calm and happy in her surroundings and had the freedom to find her way through this illness. unfortunately Mum passed away recently, when staff came back into work to say their farewells and see her through the night she was shown so much love and I was very grateful to have been part of it all, So thank you all at Halvergate, for everything!
We have nothing but praise for the care, compassion and kindness with which our 100 year old mum is looked after by the staff team at Halvergate House. Mum, who has been there since last May, has a complex range of needs and requires constant care and attention, but nothing is too much for the staff. The home is spotlessly clean at all times and the food is appetising, varied and always served exactly according to Mum's requests. Everyone at the home, including the managers, nurses, care, domestic, maintenance and catering staff, works hard together to make sure that Mum's needs are fully met. Thank you to all concerned.
Please may I say a big thank you to you all at Halvergate House. The care you are providing for my mother is truly amazing. You are all so kind and compassionate towards my mother. An amazing job in difficult circumstances. To two members of staff, a big thanks from my dad, who is 89 and knows how wonderful you both are (as are you all).
The home is always tidy and clean and the staff are all fantastic from the bottom to the top, nothing ever seems too much bother for any of them, and any concerns are dealt with and discussed and they always have time to explain about my mum's health and medication. The care my mum receives seems very well planned and executed and she always says how nice all the staff are and how helpful they are. The food looks nice and is always eaten with desserts at lunch and tea and hot or cold drinks brought round regularly. I cannot rate this home highly enough in the six weeks my mum has been there and I'm extremely happy with the knowledge she will be looked after very well here in the future. And finally on Xmas day while we were there father Xmas came round with 2 lady helpers and all residents were given a bag of 5 or 6 presents which was a very nice touch.
I would like to say a very big thank you to all of the staff for looking after my husband for the last year. Their care was second to none cannot praise them enough. The food was brilliant too. Everyone is so dedicated to what they do. Many thanks to you all.
My 81-year-old father was recently admitted to Halvergate House following a short illness. He had been discharged from hospital and we were told he needed palliative care. Luckily Halvergate House had a room available and was highly recommended by Norwich hospital. My dad ended up spending a week there before he passed away. The staff couldn't have been more caring, both to him and to all of us family. It really helped us deal with a very difficult and sad time. We felt the staff were always aware of his pain control needs, and he was constantly checked on. The room was very comfortable, with views onto the pretty gardens. I would highly recommend Halvergate House to anyone looking for a residential care home.
My elderly mother spent the last few weeks of her life at Halvergate House. She was treated kindly by the manager and colleagues throughout her final weeks. She was developing quite severe dementia and staff at all levels treated her with dignity and compassion. In her final few days she needed considerable nursing care and (as far as I can tell as a layperson) this was provided skilfully by the nursing staff. They were tactful and clear in their explanations of how events were unfolding and they supported us and gave me time in making informed choices. I am grateful to the staff at all levels who cared for my mother - and for me and the family. They gave us time and space. I found the staff's skill and sensitivity immensely helpful as my mother was dying and also in the hours and days after her death.
Initially I was not sure but as I was shown around by a lovely lady, I felt more happy and relaxed about the home, in fact, they made me feel very welcome. Since mum has been in the care home my initial feelings have been confirmed and mum has been made to feel very welcome and friendly (like family).
My mother has a long history of complex and multiple health problems, both mental and physical. She can be very challenging and aggressive, even sometimes violent. Her current behaviour, which is caused by her advanced condition of vascular dementia coupled with mobility issues and other illnesses, has proven too difficult for two previous Care Homes to cope with, and indeed they both failed my mother quite badly. However, at Halvergate House the staff and manager have persevered with my mother and have discovered a management regime which works astonishingly well. They have shown professional levels of care and understanding, and have found, by allowing mother some freedom to explore her surroundings, and providing exactly the right level of support on good days and bad, that she can still have some quality of life. This is a remarkable achievement in a frighteningly difficult and challenging case, and they are to be commended very highly.
My mother is a challenging person to care for and Halvergate have proved to be professional, caring and supportive of all our family. I am grateful that they have been able to improve my mother's physical condition and provide the best of care.
Mum spent 1 month in Halvergate House before she got very ill. My first impressions of the home were beautiful; situation, rooms, cleanliness, décor and facilities. I found the manager extremely polite, accommodating, warm and compassionate. The same with a few staff I met on that day. Mum's stay was for me everything I wanted. Good care and good quality of life. Excellent food, kindness and I found this anytime I visited day or night. During Mum's final days, the 24-hour care by nursing staff and carers alike was second to none. She had the best most professional care I could have wished for. I cared for Mum for many years so I guess I expected the same level of care and I got it.
Sadly, my father died in November 2015 but this event was hugely tempered by our whole family's feeling that he could not have received better care anywhere than at Halvergate House. The friendly, cheerful and caring staff were always ready and willing to tend to his every need with appropriate respect. He was especially appreciative of the high standard of cuisine and we know he sent compliments to the kitchen more than once! Unfortunately, he was severely hampered by his problems in partaking of the activities available so we feel we are not really qualified to pass judgement on that aspect but we have no reason to think them anything but 'good' as would be in keeping with the general high standard observed elsewhere. Certainly we do believe that my father was made to feel as comfortable and even 'loved' as it is possible for any staff anywhere to fulfill this function. We would like to extend our very grateful thanks and kind regards to all and would happily recommend Halvergate House to anyone.
