View Full Details of Old Vicarage Residential HomeCan't praise them enough. A fantastic place all round. Highly Recommend.
Since the current manager has arrived things have improved at the home, hence the good rating. I feel there are still issues at times with staffing. I would prefer Mum to walk more as asked for on several occations but this still has not happened. The activities programme has improved. I know the staff and management are striving for an outstanding rating.
My mother was very reluctant to go into care, but following a serious Covid infection and a long stay in hospital, this became her only real option. I'm delighted to say that she is flourishing. She loves The Old Vicarage, as she frequently says, "there's always something happening." I visit her regularly and observe the staff in action. Without exception they're all hardworking and genuinely caring. They listen to the residents and do their best to accommodate their needs. There is "always something happening," with a wide range of activities and entertainments available week by week. Everyone is invited to join in the fun contributing to whatever is going on. The management team do a great job ensuring the residents safety and well being, and keeping in close contact with family informing us of any problems, and involving us in any decisions that need to be made. All in all, if my mother is happy, then so am I, and she most definitely is.
I have been a resident here for 3 years and while it went into special measures i can honestly say the personal care here has been first class for those years. Now with a new management team added to the senior and general carers plus kitchen staff and domestics the Old Vicarage goes from strength to strength. So if you need a care home for yourself or a family member you would have a long way to go to beat the Old Vicarage. Trust me I'm not an easy man to please but here I feel loved and respected and am happy to call it my home.
My mum is currently a resident. The care she receives is outstanding from all staff - management, senior carers, carers, catering staff, cleaners and activities coordinator. They all do a fabulous job and I am so thankful. They are all so friendly and professional. I am very grateful for the love and care my Mum receives.
My father was a resident in The Old Vicarage for just over a year, initially I could see the home was wanting in the overall running starting with the management. It was put under special measures. The home had struggles, as changes in the degree of care needed takes time. During this time owners and management were very open, holding regular meetings to keep residents friends and relatives aware of the improvements they were trying to put in place. Over time I could see massive improvements, at the end of Dad's stay in the home it became end-of-life care. I could not fault the home for being caring and also giving our family space to be with Dad at this difficult time. So to conclude my review I felt glad my father was in this home with the responsibility of finding a care home put solely on my shoulders being the only family member in the area. I feel I couldn't do better, nowhere is perfect but this home and the carers now working there came very close.
My mum was here for one night following a hospital stay. Fortunately, I visited her or she wouldn’t be with us. She showed signs of being very ill. They refused medical help despite me asking many times. I called 111, they called 999. Mum needed urgent life-saving treatment. Residents were without water during the heatwave and shouted at when asking for a drink. Mum was not given breakfast when I arrived at 10, not given thickened/puréed food, choke hazard. Left in a wheelchair despite being in pain with pressure sore. Did not help her eat or drink. Residents just put in front of the TV. Didn’t give mum her phone, and her clothes were left in bags. They didn’t want me to take their plastic cup in the ambulance so mum could drink. The ambulance crew had to tell them she was taking it. Many more problems.
My friend has been a resident of this care home for approximately 1 1/2 years. Following the loss of his wife, a fall, rapidly declining mobility and post-hospital acquired Covid, he could no longer care for himself. Now at 95, this very independent man has survived another episode of covid, declining health due to an untreatable condition (palliative care of his choice) and is now bed-bound but still very alert. Despite all his problems, he remains cheerful. He unfortunately now requires full assistance with all personal care, feeding and drinking with a special diet. The staff at this care home have been nothing short of outstanding. They care for him with dignity, kindness, laughter and support him to make the decisions he wants rather than what is easiest for them. I have absolutely no doubt that if my friend had been in any other care home he would have died a long time ago. Thank you to you all.
The Old Vicarage is giving excellent care to my sister. She has been here for four weeks, and I have seen a marked improvement. The staff are wonderful, very understanding and caring. This is her second stay at The Old Vicarage, and she was very happy to return. Thank you, Old Vicarage!
We needed urgent care for our mum in November and were recommended The Old Vicarage by a local friend. From my initial conversation with the manager to moving mum in, to the present time, we have been constantly reassured that our mum is in safe hands. The support for us as a family as well as Mum has been so comforting and professional and we are so pleased that in these difficult times, Mum is comfortable and cared for in such a lovely, comfortable and caring environment.
Extremely helpful staff.
We moved my father from another care home in Norwich where he was neglected. Now his care is fantastic, he is so much happier. He had refused to come out of his room previously, now he is in the lounge all the time. He looks better cared for, is enjoying his food, hearing aids been sorted, as has the dentist. He is now 95 and in excellent hands. Staff are wonderful, so caring. A brilliant care home.
OK, I'm not allowed to name the wonderful manager and brilliant staff who cared for my mum over the past few years. That's a shame because they did everything to make her stay comfortable and my visits welcome. The Old Vicarage has a nice, comfortable feel with attentive carers and a calm, relaxed atmosphere. I can only offer the highest praise!
From the initial phone enquiry to settling Mum in, and to now, I cannot fault anything about Old Vicarage. Nothing is any trouble. My Mum is very happy and I have no worries or concerns about the care she is receiving. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. They greet myself and family by name. Visiting is always when it is convenient for me, not the home and we are welcome any time. All staff are also knowledgeable of my Mum's needs.
My overall reaction to the home is all staff make you feel very welcome - staff very attentive to the residents and nothing too much trouble. A very 'homely' home.
Having had no experience of care homes, I was a little apprehensive when my friend had to be admitted to this care home. I needn't have worried. From day one, they have been professional, caring and it is more like she is in her own home. The staff are patient, have empathy and treat residents with respect. Nothing is too much trouble, she also likes being here which says it all.
From day one (it has been three and a half years now), this care home has been friendly, caring and happy. The home is clean and well run the residents are looked after very well. The staff always go that extra mile.
Staff - caring, friendly and cooperative, seeing to my needs. Management - accessible, helpful and willing to look into any problems asked. Maintenance and repairs are regularly attended to. Regular checks on the residents both day and night. Activities are on weekday afternoons; quizzes, games, crafts and knitting etc. Food and drink - good drinks always available with the tendency for large portions. Regular access to the doctor, dentist, optician and chiropodist. Comfortable room - clean and tidy. Free to participate in the village activities outside the home. Free to be private in own room or mix in the lounge. I am happy here and feel at home.
I think it is a very nice place, well run, quiet and reserved also. Staff are very efficient, food is of a good standard.
The Old Vicarage Residential Home is a home from home, comfortable, relaxing and not in the least bit clinical, with staff who are caring and kind. They encourage autonomy and independence whilst providing support where needed and everyone is treated as an individual. Everyone at the care home works as part of an extended family and always makes visitors welcome. This is a happy place with lots of laughter and a place where residents are able to spend their final days in familiar surroundings supported by staff they know who care deeply about them. I visit this home four times a week and would highly recommend it.
