View Full Details of Cholwell House Nursing HomeMy mother arrived here in October. She has always said never wanted to go into a care home. But since arriving she is so happy and settled. She loves the staff and even though she is 98 years old, she really settled in. I visit a great deal and can not fault anything at the home. So I go away knowing she is happy and safe for the first time in many years.
Dad lived at Cholwell House Nursing Home for four years and passed away in May 2023, aged 96. We were worried that, as his faculties declined, he would struggle and we would find it difficult to engage with him. We needn’t have worried. It is fantastic and looks after residents as individuals. All the staff ensure that they feel safe and comfortable. Dad was dressed, washed, shaved etc every day and looked neat whenever we visited. The food was excellent – he did enjoy the cooked breakfast and the “show and tell” to ask what he would like for lunch. The activities such as singing, bringing in external guests or even animals (we won’t forget the lambs!) were great. The manager manages the home extremely well and her recruitment policy is excellent, as all the staff show the dedication and commitment that one would hope to see for one’s relative. We cannot praise Cholwell enough. Dad continued to smile until the end and we would have no hesitation in suggesting Cholwell as a nursing home for anyone’s relatives.
Mum was a resident from January until May of this year. The love, care, attention and support that she received during her time at Cholwell House were amazing and humbling to witness. Every single nurse was so friendly and supportive to Mum and helped to make her final months as comfortable as possible. Our family are so grateful for the love and support provided to us, as well as Mum over a really difficult period - a huge thank you to all of the amazing Cholwell team.
The loving care given to my husband in his last few weeks was second to none and I could not have chosen a better place for him to be. The care extended to myself and the family. Many thanks for making the end-of-life experience more bearable.
My mother was admitted to Cholwell House Nursing Home in January 2022. Sadly she died in June 2022. From beginning to end, we were so happy with everything to do with the home. The staff were absolutely fabulous - warm, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and had time for my mum and for me and my family. From day one, they treated my mum like a good friend and made it her home. We knew that Mum was in excellent hands and that provided an enormous sense of relief at a time of immense stress, upset and ultimately sadness. They cared for Mum so well, right until her last day - they were respectful, caring and so supportive. We thank everyone at Cholwell so much - a fabulous team.
It is always difficult to accept that a parent, who has always been so independent and capable, needs to go into care. But the support and care given to our father over the last year or so at Cholwell House Nursing Home, led so professionally by the managers, was remarkable. Whilst the pandemic placed severe restrictions on visiting, it was a great comfort to know that Dad was in such capable hands. And Cholwell provided a dedicated 'residents line' for family, so we were able at least to chat regularly, even during full lockdown. Thank you for the kind support, patience and care you gave Dad throughout these difficult times.
My mother is a recent resident of Cholwell House Nursing Home. I was worried about her going into care but I can honestly say for both my mother and I it has been a lovely experience. My mother has settled well with lovely, caring nurses and care workers who genuinely are sensitive and interested in knowing my mother and her needs. The home has a relaxed, caring and happy atmosphere.
I was very upset when I wasn’t managing my husband’s care at home and had to admit him into a nursing home. It was a real comfort and peace of mind for me to know and see that Cholwell House has provided him excellent care and I was kept informed of any changes. The matron and her staff took the time to get to know him and are always friendly and approachable. With the pandemic restrictions, the staff work very hard to allow the family to visit without breaking the rules. I am very grateful to all the staff for the care and attention they have provided for my husband. I would have no hesitation to recommend Cholwell House to any family. Thank you.
Cholwell House is a wonderful home from home for my mum who has been a resident since January of this year. The staff are kind and caring and you feel one of the family immediately. The house has a calm atmosphere and great attention is paid to all residence. My mum has really blossomed since January and is so much happier having suffered the loss of her soulmate last year and the increasing challenge of living alone, even with carers she has really gone from strength to strength. I know it is due to the care and support she receives. It's also a very happy place and my mum has great fun with the staff. The manager is incredible, she is very supportive of me, including me in all decisions regarding my mum's care but also to the wider family which is so important when they live far away. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cholwell House to any family in the same situation as myself.
I just wanted to thank the Manager and all the staff at Cholwell for their exceptional care of my father. Despite the difficulties that the pandemic has given the staff they have been amazing. My family and I cannot thank you enough for everything you did for him. The care he received was exceptional.
My mum was with you for nearly two years. Your staff were always kind and attentive to my mum and when I couldn't visit her I knew that she was very well looked after. I shall miss her always but I shall also miss seeing and speaking to all the girls that looked after her. I would recommend your care home and all the staff to anyone thinking of trusting them with a dear relative that needs care and company.
My mum could not have received better care given with compassion and professionalism 24 hours a day than she did in her 18 month stay with you. I cannot thank you enough for your attitude, communication skills and sheer dedication. There is nowhere else I would have liked her to end her days and it made her passing a good deal easier for my sister and me knowing she was in such good, caring, safe hands. My everlasting thanks.
It was with deep regret that we had to put my mum into a home, after trying to care for her in her own home for as long as we could. On reflection choosing Cholwell House was the best decision that we could have made. The tenderness, compassion and love that was shown to both my mum and us as her family was exactly what was needed. I would sincerely recommend Cholwell House to anybody in similar circumstances.
I would just like to say that this was my first experience of putting a loved one into care. This was a very distressing time made so much easier by the team at Cholwell. They reassured us that everything would be ok and encouraged us to call as many times as we liked. From that day on we became part of the Cholwell family. We visited whenever we wanted and was always greeted with a warm welcome. My mother-in-law was always so happy and well looked after and I really believed she was loved by all the staff. At 93 she has now died but I would not hesitate to recommend this nursing home to others and also feel a little sad that I will not be visiting them anymore. Thank you all.
My mother, who has dementia; has now been in Cholwell for a year and in that time she has always been treated with care, dignity and love. The staff are like family to the residents and nothing is too much trouble for them. We are always informed of any developments or concerns about Mum's health and during lockdown we had handmade cards and photos letting us know she was ok. She has a lovely size room, which is always clean as are all the communal areas. The whole place is light and airy and has a family home atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cholwell; as I know Mum is getting the best of care. Thank you to everyone at Cholwell.
Over the past 5-years, Cholwell House has taken care of both my parents, arriving at different times and after traumatic and uncomfortable experiences in other homes. At the time my mum arrived, doctors had given her no more than 3-months to live, her condition extreme both mentally and physically in her end-stage dementia. Now, nearly 5-years later, she is settled, calm and physically as good as she can be, given her circumstances. The care, compassion and love that has been shown, not only to my parents but also to me by the wonderful family that Cholwell are, has changed both my parents and my life completely. They are all considered my extended family, and I will never be able to thank them enough for all they do. I love them all, and if mum and dad were able, I know that they would say the same. Thank you all so much, Cholwell House, you are all totally amazing.
Cholwell is the most amazing home from home nursing home. From the moment you walk through the door you have a warm welcome, very much a family atmosphere. We have been part of the Cholwell family for nearly six years, and in all that time, have never had any concerns about the care, a very dedicated, compassionate team of cares who never fail to go the extra mile. During the lockdown, we received photos and cards and even a video on my mum-in-laws 80th birthday, again so much effort to make her day special, a cake, banners, balloons and singing! She has sadly been mostly in bed for the last couple of years and never a sore or mark on her skin, a true testament to outstanding care, she is always clean and fresh as is the whole home. I can not speak highly enough of this place and would never hesitate to recommend it, (in fact, I have and those that have also placed their relatives at Cholwell have never regretted it for one minute).
My mum has lived at Cholwell for 5 years and 8 months. I can honestly say in all this time I have never had any reason for complaint. The home is managed extremely well, staff are friendly, welcoming and always show care and compassion to all residents. Over our time here it has been a rollercoaster ride with the decline of dementia with my mum, but the manager and her team have always involved us in any changes and showed care and support to us at difficult times. During lockdown, I have had photos sent in a card with a message of how mum is, which has been lovely. I will be eternally grateful to everyone at Cholwell and can’t recommend them highly enough. I am very confident that my mum is treated with dignity and compassion which is vital with dementia. In my opinion, they not only do a first-class job but always seem to go that extra mile with the care and compassion that just seems to come naturally to them. Thank you so much.
Overall very pleased. My mother is in the lounge area of the home and my only criticism is there are only 2 carers and when they are attending to one resident, the other residents are left to their own devices, toilet etc. I appreciate 2 carers to 12 residents is probably the norm, it leaves something to be desired.
My sister has been at Cholwell House for 3 years and 4 months and has been very well looked after and cared for. She is very happy there. As visitors, we always find the staff very welcoming and pleased to see us. During the recent lockdown, we have been in contact with the staff and been advised all is well.
